For eons, the face of Earth has been subject to a perpetual cycle of unrelenting evolution; over time, nations have flourished and fallen, and Mother Earth continually weeps over her late children. In spite of this literal death that permeates the world, the prospect of inequality is an additional terror that will never cease to exist. The general concepts of superiority and inferiority can be found within many American schools, as indicated within an article written by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Within this article, titled “Diverse Schools Are Essential for the Nation’s Success,” the lack of diversity in many United States schools is described as a prevailing issue within the country (Costello). Specifically, the author, Maureen Costello,…show more content… Personally, I think that Maureen Costello wishes to improve social relations among different groups of people in society; this is primarily because the article’s publisher, the Southern Poverty Law Center, has a section where its mission is defined (“What We Do”). The page states, “The Southern Poverty Law Center is dedicated to… seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of our society… the SPLC works toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity will be a reality” (“What We Do”). This statement indubitably supports my conjecture. Because diversity is lacking in schools, it is probable that she thinks that this will further sever the connections present between different classes of individuals, and schools therefore need a return to form that encourages integration (Costello). Furthermore, within the article, Costello enthusiastically cites studies that exhibit the positive impacts produced by melding students from different backgrounds into a cohesive union, while simultaneously disparaging the idea that student achievement should be prioritized before diversity (Costello). Because of her intention to overhaul the implementation of multi-class integration, Costello is likely doing this as a persuasive technique to convince individuals to be proactive in ensuring that diverse schools become a
