The world today is broken into countries drawn through the work of cartographers, who chose often to draw boundaries between countries through natural boundaries. Natural boundaries were rivers, lakes, mountains, oceans, or other geographical structures. These natural boundaries create some nations which leads humans to wonder about the origins of a nation. For example, as seen in the time of Mazzini, the earth and all the geographical features accompanying it were created by God so if a country ends because of a natural barrier is this not a sign of a predestined nation through God. Mazzini believes that God created the land for the nation but the people must join together to complete the nation. Mazzini’s country of Italy was blessed according to him because the boundaries of Italy are designed by God so he believed. Italy does have three water boundaries to its east, west, and south and its north is divided from Europe by the largest mountain range within Europe, the Alps. As a nation, Italy was created to be a land united under one ruler as the peninsula was almost perfectly separated from Europe and was distinguished from other emerging European nations. God created this country for the Italian people and it is their familial bonds that unite the country together. With God as the creator of the nation, above government and law, the people must unite to do their duties to Him. This is the creation of the family within the nation, the duty that a human being has to humanity which is to love and support one another.
