Wandering through the vibrant, bustling streets of New York City, I cannot help but to look around and see what an incredible impact the ever-advancing businesses and technology has on the world. As part of my childhood dream, thriving in a city, New York City, that is the world leader in international finance and business, inspired me to set out on the journey to the U.S. three years ago. With a longstanding interest in business, I have chosen to pursue Accounting as an undergrad major because I consider it a tool to break into the business world. For me the most interesting part of Accounting is the problem solving aspect. It is intriguing that everything has order and method, and each piece is placed carefully and related back to its context. …show more content…

Developing Your Brand

...For a moment, consider who the audience is for your MBA application.  You will be spending countless hours writing a magnum opus that may be read by only one individual—or a select few at most. These people have many applications that they need to go through every day, and even the most meticulous individuals may at times miss some parts of your essays. That’s why you need to make things as clear and easy to read as possible for the admissions committee team by making sure that they can’t miss who you are and what you can bring to an incoming MBA class. The best business school applications feature four or five aspects of the candidate’s character and experiences that anyone reading the essays will identify. These traits blend to create “Brand You.” We all understand the power and influence that brands have. Businesses spend a lot of money to make sure you know how they bring value and what they stand for. While there are many more subtle parts to their full corporate identities and many tones to their product/service offerings, companies need to ensure that purchasers have a complete understanding of a limited set of characteristics. As an example, this is list of traits for a few reputable companies: 1. Low prices every day of the week, large selection, one-stop store 2. Fun place to be, socially responsible, respect for employees 3. Creative design, simple, cool 4. Cheeky, young, influencing lifestyles 5. Fun, family, fantasy Even from only these...

Paper 101

...www.platinumgmat.com | Free GMAT Prep GMAT Practice Questions | GMAT Study Guide | MBA Admissions GMAT AWA Sample Essay Analysis of An Argument "The recent surge in violence in the southern part of the city is a result of a shortage of police officers and an absence of leadership on the part of the city council. In order to rectify the burgeoning growth of crime that threatens the community, the city council must address this issue seriously. Instead of spending time on peripheral issues such as education quality, community vitality, and job opportunity, the city council must realize that the crime issue is serious and double the police force, even if this action requires budget cuts from other city programs." In the argument above, the author concludes that the city council is not doing its job well and needs to focus on expanding significantly the police force in order to combat recent growth in the level of crime. The premise of the argument is that crime is expanding while the city council focuses on ostensibly unrelated matters such as education reform. However, the argument is flawed because it falsely assumes that the city council’s efforts to improve quality of life are entirely unrelated to levels of violence and it assumes that the crime problem can be solved by merely increasing the police force. First, the argument wrongly assumes that issues of educational opportunity, community vitality, and job availability have no bearing on crime. However, the author fails...

Once the writers are lucid about the technique of writing an essay and how to write an essay outline, the next step that they face up to is how to move toward a particular research paper topic. And what type of writing works best? Students often complain about a certain type of essay they have been assigned with. It seems to them that writing within essay type boundaries doesn’t allow them to think out the box, limits their potential. But writing a paper without any directions could be even more confusing than the class assignment you got. Do not think about the limitations as of the prison walls, but as of the walls in your room where you feel free to paint murals or change nothing whatsoever, simply being in control of it, being yourself. Statement of Purpose

...Statement of Purpose - MBA 1.  Studying for an MBA requires a certain determination and strength of character. In recent years, the business world has become rapidly integrated across once restricting borders, and anyone with high goals in the business world must have an international perspective and be aware of the realities of different international arenas. I am unique, and uniquely fortunate, to have a diverse background both academically and professionally which has exposed me to different continents, peoples, cultures, and languages. As a native of Asia, I am familiar with the increasingly important markets of this region, and as such I am thoroughly prepared for the demands and challenges presented by undertaking study in the MBA program at your institution.   From a young age, I set goals beyond those of my peers. I decided to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in International Hotel Management, but in recognition of the limitation of programs in this field in my native country, I decided to pursue my undergraduate degree in Europe. The international hotel management course I joined was run by Goodwell University in the UK, and due to the experience of the instructors and the overall sophistication of the program, I received an incredibly valuable learning experience, beyond that which I could have received elsewhere. My undergraduate coursework at Goodwell University focused on management marketing, accounting, and various aspects of tourism. I received broad business-based...

Statement of Purpose

...Sample Statement of Purpose: MBA The term “globalism” has become overused, and often misused. In fact, we might say that it has actually been devalued to the level of the everyday language of buzzword-brandishing marketing pundits. Such freewheeling usage has perhaps prompted many a CEO (or future CEO) to launch into a global plan or strategy without proper consideration of the demands and dynamics of the international marketplace. Many would-be globetrotters neglect the acquisition of language skills, knowledge of foreign trade and tax laws, accounting standards, etc., all of which are necessary to effectively “go global.” Superficial knowledge only leads to failure. This has, indeed, happened, and while there is no doubt that neglecting to capture the gains achievable in overseas markets is equally suicidal, misguided attempts at competing globally (along with rapidly developing opportunities in the global marketplace) have placed a dramatic premium on individuals who take the time to properly train themselves in international business. For me, the Columbia MBA is a significant component of this training. I foresee my own career moving in the direction of European/American business, initially from an advisory perspective (i.e. investment banking or consulting) and ultimately from a leadership role within a manufacturing entity, preferably a start-up venture. This prophecy, in part, has evolved from my past experiences in western and eastern Europe which, in turn, have formed...

Xiearmyxiearmy 零四岁末于美国穷乡僻壤 Chapter I Application Essay Examples INTRODUCTION This appendix contains 115 actual essays written, by 17 different applicants, for leading MBA programs. They address dozens of different essay topics. The applicants and their essays have been selected to give you the widest possible range of materials from which to profit. The first four applicants all applied to the University of Chicago. They were chosen by Chicago’s admissions director, Don Martin, according to my desire that they be from four very different people and of average quality for those admitted. In other words, these essays will show you exactly what you are competing against. They are of perfectly acceptable quality, but they should not discourage you. If you follow the lessons of this book you should be able to surpass each of these efforts. The second set of three applicants—Melissa, Doreen, and Carol—is taken from Columbia University’s files. Columbia’s admissions director, Linda Meehan, was asked to supply several applications, again from people of widely differing backgrounds, but this time of superior quality. I think that this group’s applications...
