In order to assist decision making the regard to minimum tender price to NBC Net present Value and Internal Rate of return are presented here, assuming NBC receives costs savings of 15% as experienced by other Councils which have outsourced. Functional Area of Business

...business. Managers play an essential role in organizations because they oversee others, their work and ensure goals. Most traditional organizations have multiple types of managers for different levels within an organization. These various types of managers are first-line, middle, and top (Robbins & Coulter, 2012). The roles may be different, but each is just as important. Managers are important for three reasons; first, their skills are most needed when pandemonium happen. Second, managers get things done and finally, managers certify employees are productive and loyal to the company (Robbins & Coulter, 2012). There is numerous function in a business and managers have a role in each one. This purpose of this essay is to analyze the role of a manager within the functional areas of business. Functional areas According to the MBA overview module, there are numerous functions within a business. These functions are management, law, human resource management, leadership, accounting, finance, economics, research and statistics, operations management, marketing, and strategic planning (MBA Overview Module, n.d.). Management is overseeing others, so organizations meet their goals. Employees are the most valuable resource that companies have so managers, who use staff efficiently and effectively, make sure the business is efficacious. Law, as it relates to business, is "the study of the legal aspect of business" (MBA Overview Module, n.d., figure 2). Managers use business...

Role of a Manager Within the Functional Areas of Business

...Role of a Manager within the Functional Areas of Business MGT/521 10/12/2012 Carlton Robinson Abstract According to the University of Phoenix MBA Overview Module (n.d.), there are 11 functional areas of business that managers play an important role. However, for the purposes of this paper, we will focus on in my opinion the four major functional areas of a business (management, human resource, finance and marketing) that managers play a key role, regardless of the company size. Each line of business have specific duties and responsibilities, however, they all come together to work for the success of the company. Management Management is the practice of coordinating and overseeing the work of others so that organizational goals can be accomplished. Managers ensure business success through efficiency and the effective use of employees, the business's most important resource (University of Phoenix, n.d.). Managers are the first line of defense to interpret the culture and atmosphere management wants to present to the business as a whole. In addition, they must provide the tools and resources to employees for the company to accomplish the goal’s management has implemented. If the goals are not being performed employees have to work with management to address the changes and make corrective actions to maintain positive stability in the business environment. Human Resource Managers use Human Resource management throughout the employee life cycle, including hiring...

...able to designate Friday as a Reading Day. Please DO NOT schedule any travel until after your obligation for the exercise ends at 5:30pm Thursday evening. COURSE DESCRIPTION First-Year Financial Management and Policies (FMP) reflects three important features of the Darden MBA Program: (1) it is a general management program; (2) the program, through its frequent use of the case method of instruction, has a practical, pragmatic bias and a decision- orientation; and (3) the first-year program provides the basic training on which students can build in the second-year. Consistent with the first-year program, FMP aims to provide: 1. An Introduction. The course provides the basic framework necessary to pursue further study in finance in the second-year of the MBA program and on his or her own thereafter. This framework is an orientation towards valuation. 2. Basic Mastery. The course emphasizes essentials, the tools and concepts that every general manager, entrepreneur, or manager in other functional fields should know. 3. A Corporate Perspective. Because we seek to understand the problems of general managers, this is a corporate finance course, rather than a course in investments, banking, or personal finance. While elements of these related subjects must be brought to bear, our ultimate focus is corporate policy and tactics. 4. An Underpinning for Addressing Broad and Challenging...

Functional Areas of Business

...of Business Paper Understanding the importance of managers in today’s corporate world is crucial for an individual with a special interest in business management practices, especially if pursuing a Masters of Business Administration. According to Robbins and Coulter (2012), managers are important for three main reasons: organizations need their skills, they get things done, and they do matter. The responsibility of a manager is to coordinate and oversee that others are doing their work so that the goals of an organization can be accomplished (Robbins and Coulter, 2012), and to “ensure business success” (University of Phoenix, 2012). The manager’s efficiency and effectiveness when leading and overseeing the tasks needed to accomplish the organization’s goals will reflect in the functional areas of business. Functions of Management There are four functions of management: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. This functions approach is the most popular used today, and managers address them “regardless of the order in which these functions are performed” (Robbins and Coulter, 2012, p. 10). Managers use their leadership to influence and inspire employees, participate in strategic planning to create plans, and ensure the objectives are completed (University of Phoenix, 2012). Manager’s Role The management of an organization is divided into different areas, depending on the nature of the business. Although managers’ roles vary, the primary function is to coordinate...
