Share Analysis * Right then, on the screen is a graph showing the share prices at different points during the last 5 years. * As you can see, share prices peaked during 2011 and 2012. * Now we can translate this graph into some ratios to look what it actually shows * So, the earnings per share figure has continued to grow since 2011 * However we need to look at the price to earnings ratio to fully understand what’s going on. * In 2011 there was a big increase in the price to earnings ratio * Share prices were high, and the demand had increased * But why? Investors were expecting a big growth in earnings in the future

Geographical Segments/SBU’s * McDonalds segmentation focuses closely on its franchises and its McCafe brand. * Now, well all know about that cliché where Americans are known for their love for massive burgers right? So let’s look at what the actual numbers say about this... * The US has the largest fast food market in the world, estimated of produced $191billion * So how are McDonalds performing in the states compared to the rest of the world * First of all, as mentioned earlier more than 80% of McDonalds restaurants are franchises * So, because of the limited time we have today, I will be focuses on the revenues of franchised restaurants rather than the company owned ones. * If we take a look at the bar chart on the screen, almost half of the sales are coming from America, followed by Europe, Asia Pacific & Middle East and Africa, and then the other countries. * America has the largest fast food market in world and McDonalds dominates this market in terms of market share, so it is expected for them to produce most of their revenue here. * Europe fall behind America, however McDonalds are looking to target the European market to increase its revenue there. *

English I Paper

...Mic Check, One-Two Suzanne Fields, the author of “Bad Raps: Music Rebels Revel in Their Thug Life” wrote her article on May 21, 2001 for insight on the news. In her article, Fields talks about how rap music has negative effects on our younger generation. She personally believes that the lyrics in these songs have a harsh effect on our youth and that it is the worst genre of music out right now. While reading, I found her opinion to be extremely biased and unfair. I also found myself disagreeing with almost every bad thing she stated about the rap genre since many other genres can have the same types of effects on younger people when they listen to them. Fields starts out her article by saying that rap music “expresses the worst kind of images” and is harmful to our younger generations. She thinks that the lyrics “employ vulgar street idioms” and are too harsh. She also states that she believes their lyrics come from “a world of broken families, absent fathers, illegitimate children and matriarchal dominance, often subsidized by welfare.” (Fields) Fields continues her argument against rap music by saying that the reason for the harsh lyrics is because language and experience of poetry and romance are absent from the lives of the rappers and their audiences. Fields personally does not know the true lives of the rappers, so she shouldn't be judging them just off of their lyrical content. Fields continues her article against rap music by using a couple facts about other singers...

Nwa Contact Zone

...colonialism, slavery, or their aftermath as they are lived out in many parts of the world today”(Pratt 34) by Mary Louise Pratt in her writing titled “Arts of the contact zone”. This song has been helpful and caused huge issues within the communities. The song shows the struggle that people of color go through in society and how different races portray each other based on stereotypes. NWA, which stands for Niggas With Attitude, wrote this song as a parody. I believe that they presented themselves with such vulgar because they felt like everyone saw them in a negative way. They became what the public thought they were. In doing so they caused a lot of commotion with the FBI and police. The song is from the view point of the 3 attorneys; MC Ren, Ice Cube, Eazy-E and the judge Dr. Dre. Each attorney shares their story about the struggle of being a person of color living in Compton. The first verse is by Ice Cube who mentions “and not the other color so police think/ they have the authority to kill a minority”(NWA 5). What Ice Cube is saying is that cops think because they are white, they are superior to people of color. The cops assume they have the right to kill them and abusing the authority they have. Instead of protecting the civilians, they are harming them. Later on Cube says “searching my car, looking for the product/thinking every nigga is selling narcotics/ you'd rather see, me in the pen/ than me and Lorenzo rolling in a Benz-o”(NWA 6) The police will stop these young...

...often arose. Informal competitions started when a few truly exceptional dancers were noticed on the dance floor; the rest of the people would back off and allow the leaders to duke it out. As these informal competitions became increasingly common and popular, announced competitions became part of a night out at hip hop clubs. Whether they arose organically or they were advertised in advance, this competitive nature helped hip hop retain the "battle" culture that has existed since the beginning. This type of competition can also be seen in other dance forms, perhaps most notably in tap dancing of the early 20th century. *The Hammer Dance (Mc Hammer) MC Hammer brought rap music to the mainstream audience with his album Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em, the biggest-selling rap album of all time. ...Wi-Fi Alliance certification is constantly evolving to ensure that Wi-Fi CERTIFIED products include the latest enhancements to the IEEE 802.11 standard and to support a growing set of applications and devices. As a result, Wi-Fi functionality is extended and its performance improved, while retaining backward compatibility with legacy Wi-Fi CERTIFIED products. The work of the IEEE 802.11 working group in areas that include enhancements in performance, security and roaming will keep Wi-Fi technology steadily improving. Among the most anticipated enhancements is IEEE 802.11n which will bring increases in throughput enabled by MAC and PHY technology innovations. Wi-Fi users have grown accustomed to the basic data functionality that Wi-Fi affords them. They have started to use Wi-Fi in new applications and devices and expect to have the same satisfactory experience as with their laptops. These new applications and devices, and the end user expectation of Wi-Fi in them, are the main drivers for the development of new Wi-Fi Alliance certification programs. Most emerging applications have a real-time component that translates into more stringent performance and conformance requirements. This has created a gradual shift towards an increased emphasis on these test areas in Wi-Fi Alliance certification and in the development of specific new programs designed to improve performance so that Wi-Fi CERTIFIED products can support these new applications. Nintendo

...Nintendo is a multinational video game company located in Kyoto, Japan. Founded on September 23, 1889, it began as a playing card manufacturer, followed by a trial and error phase in which the corporation experimented with several niche businesses such as a cab company and a hotel, before settling into video games in 1974. Today, Nintendo is synonymous with innovation and a family friendly gaming atmosphere. [Nintendo Logo] Released in 2006, Nintendo’s “premiere product,” per se, is the motion-sensing video game console Wii. [Wii-Mote] [Wii-Camera] The Wii was originally released at the US $299.99 price point, which was a calculated decision considering Nintendo’s competition, the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3, were at least $100 more expensive at the time. Nintendo: Horizontal Differentiation in an Oligopoly

...Gregory Passani Economics 106T Professor Board December 2, 2010 Nintendo: Horizontal Differentiation in an Oligopoly “The game has changed, ... and the way the game is played has to be changed.” —Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo Co. Ltd (Malstrom) Nintendo has been a major player in the technology and gaming industry ever since entering into electronics in 1970. While for years it dominated the market for virtual gaming, a rise in competition within the industry presented serious challenges for the company. After struggling for the first five years of the new millennia, Nintendo made an exceptional comeback with its innovative products, the Wii and the DS, that shook the market and brought in a whole new set of customers. Their new strategy was so successful it allowed the company to be ranked the second most valuable Japanese firm after Toyota in 2007 (Farhoomand 6 ). Despite its recent success, Nintendo must look ahead and act strategically as its competitors begin to adapt to the new market trends. Market Background The Birth of Gaming The electronic gaming industry began with a few very basic games in the 1970s. At first, they appeared in the form of coin-operated machines in public places, with games like Pac Man and Donkey Kong before moving to home entertainment with hits like Atari’s Pong (Vaughan 13). A major shift in the quality of in-home gaming came with Nintendo’s release of Famicon in Japan and the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in the United States...

Blue Ocean Strategy

...Criticisms While Kim and Mauborgne propose approaches to finding uncontested market space, at the present there are few success stories of companies that applied their theories in advance. One success story that does exist is Nintendo, who first applied the Blue Ocean Strategy to create the Nintendo DS handheld game system which was the first portable gaming system to offer dual screen gaming and a touch screen in 2004. In 2006, Nintendo released the Wii, which redefined how video games are played by. The 3DS is Nintendo's third endeavour for its blue ocean strategy. Its first two attempts, the Nintendo DS and Wii, were wildly successful, becoming some of the biggest selling platforms in history. Nintendo revealed their Blue Ocean Strategy during an E3 press conference during the hype build-up of the Wii. However with just one case study, this hole in their data persists despite the publication of Value Innovation concepts since 1997. Hence, a critical question is whether this book and its related ideas are descriptive rather than prescriptive.[10] The authors present many examples of successful innovations, and then explain from their Blue Ocean perspective – essentially interpreting success through their lenses.[11] The research process followed by the authors has been criticized[11] on several grounds. Criticisms include claims that no control group was used, that there is no way to know how many companies using a Blue Ocean Strategy failed and the theory is thus unfalsifiable...
