...Mic Check, One-Two Suzanne Fields, the author of “Bad Raps: Music Rebels Revel in Their Thug Life” wrote her article on May 21, 2001 for insight on the news. In her article, Fields talks about how rap music has negative effects on our younger generation. She personally believes that the lyrics in these songs have a harsh effect on our youth and that it is the worst genre of music out right now. While reading, I found her opinion to be extremely biased and unfair. I also found myself disagreeing with almost every bad thing she stated about the rap genre since many other genres can have the same types of effects on younger people when they listen to them. Fields starts out her article by saying that rap music “expresses the worst kind of images” and is harmful to our younger generations. She thinks that the lyrics “employ vulgar street idioms” and are too harsh. She also states that she believes their lyrics come from “a world of broken families, absent fathers, illegitimate children and matriarchal dominance, often subsidized by welfare.” (Fields) Fields continues her argument against rap music by saying that the reason for the harsh lyrics is because language and experience of poetry and romance are absent from the lives of the rappers and their audiences. Fields personally does not know the true lives of the rappers, so she shouldn't be judging them just off of their lyrical content. Fields continues her article against rap music by using a couple facts about other singers...

...colonialism, slavery, or their aftermath as they are lived out in many parts of the world today”(Pratt 34) by Mary Louise Pratt in her writing titled “Arts of the contact zone”. This song has been helpful and caused huge issues within the communities. The song shows the struggle that people of color go through in society and how different races portray each other based on stereotypes. NWA, which stands for Niggas With Attitude, wrote this song as a parody. I believe that they presented themselves with such vulgar because they felt like everyone saw them in a negative way. They became what the public thought they were. In doing so they caused a lot of commotion with the FBI and police. The song is from the view point of the 3 attorneys; MC Ren, Ice Cube, Eazy-E and the judge Dr. Dre. Each attorney shares their story about the struggle of being a person of color living in Compton. The first verse is by Ice Cube who mentions “and not the other color so police think/ they have the authority to kill a minority”(NWA 5). What Ice Cube is saying is that cops think because they are white, they are superior to people of color. The cops assume they have the right to kill them and abusing the authority they have. Instead of protecting the civilians, they are harming them. Later on Cube says “searching my car, looking for the product/thinking every nigga is selling narcotics/ you'd rather see, me in the pen/ than me and Lorenzo rolling in a Benz-o”(NWA 6) The police will stop these young...

...often arose. Informal competitions started when a few truly exceptional dancers were noticed on the dance floor; the rest of the people would back off and allow the leaders to duke it out. As these informal competitions became increasingly common and popular, announced competitions became part of a night out at hip hop clubs. Whether they arose organically or they were advertised in advance, this competitive nature helped hip hop retain the "battle" culture that has existed since the beginning. This type of competition can also be seen in other dance forms, perhaps most notably in tap dancing of the early 20th century. *The Hammer Dance (Mc Hammer) MC Hammer brought rap music to the mainstream audience with his album Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em, the biggest-selling rap album of all time. ...Concept of Ethics Ethics is a study of moral principles that determine whether the actions of individuals are right or wrong and outcomes are good or bad (McShane and Glinow, 2008); as Drucker (2000) mentioned, “Ethics deals with right actions of individual”. For a company, ethics of employees are important, for example, to avoid for employing wrong employees who will embezzling company’s fund or who are commercial espionage. Thus, module of ethics indeed enhance student’s employability as student will learn about the expected behaviour and attitude of conducts, i.e. honesty and loyalty, represent one’s trustworthiness on work. Ethics relate with how one make decisions on own set of rules of what to do or not to do, it may also affecting the company’s image. For example, the dishonesty action of an employee might causes public feel distrust on the whole company. Hence, the employees with concept of ethics will enhance their reliable and trustable for the company to assign work, and then, enhance their employability. However, one of the critiques is the conflict which may arise in different situations, for example, ethics may tell student to be hardworking; yet, hardworking may not applicable on current working environment as it does not always equals to effective and efficient work. Because, what the company wants from employees nowadays is to work smart, to achieve good outcome with effectiveness and efficiency. Drucker, P. F. (2000) The Ecological Vision:...

...Topic 2-5 The impact of accounting information on ethical behavior has been extensively documented. Many ethical issues are imbedded within and around MCSs. Some critics use ethics arguments to question the basic foundations MCSs and capitalistic economies that empower manager to make economic decisions. However, Macintosh (1994) argues that “accounting and control systems can and do play a critical role in defining the moral constitution of an organization.” Management control systems are a powerful determinant of an individual's behavior (Macintosh 1994; Dirsmith et al. 1997; Pant and Yuthas 1998). These systems are established to motivate employees to implement the strategy of the firm by aligning (使结盟) corporate and individual rewards. However, Horngren (1998) and Merchant (1998) note that many results are often counterproductive (适得其反\事与愿违) (e.g., slack, spend-it-or-lose-it). As organizations become flatter and knowledge is pushed further down into the organization, individuals will become even more responsible for decisions that significantly impact current profitability and future strategy (Johnson 1992; Lancaster 1998). Several of these will have ethical implications. The first issue regards to creating budgetary slack. Creating budget slack can be interpreted to be in contravention (矛盾) of several of the obligations listed under integrity and objectivity in the IMA’s Standards of Ethical conduct. Also, utilitarianism framework proposes that slack creation raises...

Such as doing sales, recording student grades, creating reports, web sites , and sending e-mail, people rely on computers more ever day to create what they need. Even lesson plains at school and enrollment to keep up with the children addresses . I fell that internet security belongs in the classroom because we need to make sure that our children are safe and protected from internet predators and inappropriate materials that can harm our children . The county blocks any site address that might be offensive or age inappropriate, Individual teachers coach their students about not giving out any personal information and they also discuss some of the situations where this type of information could harm them. The school policy is already in place for the students. The way we could create copyright and student use in the classroom without causing trouble in either of these areas, the children’s parents and the students themselves, would have to agree to strictly follow the rules for usage. The county does this for use, they already put a plain in place for the kids to go by and parents, they even have one for the teachers to follow to. The children has a password in order to login and so does the teachers they even now will take the computer mouse right out of our...

...Ethical Dilemma: Before going into any discussion and solution I would like throw some light on what is Ethic, how it came into concept and what does Biblical point of view is related to it. Going by definition Ethics means “a set of moral principles, especially ones relating to or affirming a specified group, field, or form of conduct”. In this case we are dealing with two types of Ethics: corporate and individual. But that doesn’t mean that it changes the basic meaning of Ethics for them. Coming on to Christian / Biblical point of view, in a nutshell it clearly mentions that our sole purpose of existence is development of this world with mutual harmony, fellowship and humane attitude and by not following that we are committing a sin against god. A Christian worldview leads us to believe in moral absolutes, miracles, human dignity, and the possibility of redemption. So keeping both Ethics and Christian / Biblical point of view in my mind one can easily figure out that ethics is nothing but an extrapolation of Christian view be it corporate or individual. Corporate sectors adapt the ethical values from Biblical point of view to a writ which is compulsory as it is a formal world. But it doesn’t mean that they disagree or deviate from it. Now let’s take a look at the case provided. Some of the points that I would like to highlight are: 1. The coffee was spilled in a car that was not moving neither was she in the driver’s seat. 2. Stella Liebeck, a 79-year-old lady who...

...The parable of the Sadhu Facts Bowen Mc .Coy , MD of Morgan Stanley, on a sabbatical trip to the Himalayas along with his Anthropologist friend Stephen, met with several nationals- NewZealanders. Swiss and Japanese. One of the Swiss found a Sadhu almost naked and shivering, suffering from hypothermia. All of them contributed to reviving the man, but nobody was willing to take full responsibility of the well-being of the Sadhu. As per Mc.Coy ,each did their bit as long it was convenient and then passed the buck to others. He also ponders over the fact whether the action would have been different if the person found is a well-dressed Asian or a Westerner woman. Now the dilemma is whether there is a collective responsibility apart from the individual responsibilities. Questions 1. Why is Bowen McCoy haunted by the decision he made on the mountain? At first Bowen McCoy defended his stand of leaving the Sadhu to take care of himself. The Himalaya expedition, to him, was once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He was not willing to let it pass. The stress of the travel also added to the situation. He was eager to get over the stressful 18000 feet pass to Muklinath since he had suffered with altitude sickness once. But when Stephen pointed out to him later that the dilemma aroused out of the breakdown between individual ethic and the corporate ethic.Throwing money at the problem aws not going to solve the fundamentals. McCoy realized that he had walked through a moral dilemma...

...& Buchholtz, 2000; Swanson, 1995). The organisations are furthermore faced up to social demands for which they are likely to show responsibility for. Following the organisation can respond in different ways. The different types of responding to the social demand are obstructive, defensive, accommodative or proactive (Carroll & Gatewood, 1981). Within this essay it will be examined how these CSR principles were / are utilized in the service business McDonald’s. For evaluating the social performance of McDonald’s there will be a closer look at the ethical & discretionary responsibilities and the responses proactive & accommodative. Finally it will be examined how to improve the social responsibility of McDonald’s by using the tools code of ethics and ethical structures. McDonald’s opened its first Bar-B-Que restaurant in 1940 by the two brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald in San Bernadino, California. It has grown quickly and opened the 100th restaurant in 1959. ....Individual Ethics Essay Willie Lee Small Jr. ETH/316 June 18, 2012 G. EDWARD MC CULLOUGH Individual Ethics Essay Three theories that will be discussed in this paper are virtue theory, utilitarianism theory, and deontological theory. Although they have similarities, they each also have differences that will be explained. Each theory are related to ethics and morality, which should help to understand why they have differences, because ethics and morality are both closely related but have differences as well. Virtue-based ethical theories place less emphasis on which rules people should follow and instead focus on helping people develop good character traits, such as kindness and generosity, (Cline, no date). This theory challenges ones ethical behavior from a standpoint of a person`s actions as opposed to the character of the person. We tend to judge others by their actions rather than their personal character, because a person can be considered to have good ethical standards but he or she may not always display such a character at all times. A person can tell you how they feel about certain situations and how everyone should respond, but may not respond the way that they express. Utilitarianism theory “suggest that an action is morally right when that action produces more total utility for the group as a consequence than any other alternative does” (Bolan, 2009). Morals are a means that help us to understand that is important to put others before ourselves, which...

...Personal Ethics Development Shunkeytia Nelson PHL/323 Ethics in Management July 14, 2011 Eric MC Math Personal Ethics Development Growing up, I was with my great- grandparents majority of the time and my grandmother raised me from birth until I was about eight years of age. As I went back and forth from my great- grandparents to my grandmother on both my mother and fathers side of the family, I was taught many things about ethical values. My great-grandparents were God fearing people. I went to church a lot of the time with my great-grandmother at an early age. I watched her pray, worship, and have unmoving faith in God. These things she taught me, along with Gods Commandments on how to live my life, gave me a strong foundation to start my journey in life. As with my great-grandfather, I watched him be a man, taking care of home. He had his own business and showed great ethical behavior in doing so. With only what I believe it to be, a fifth grade education, not knowing how to read or write, I watched him be very successful in being a businessman. He would always have little sayings to say to me that meant a lot. Sayings like “work hard now and rest later. As a child I had no clue as to what that meant, but now as an adult I clearly know what it means and I stand by it firmly. On the other hand, living with my grandmother was a bit different, but not as much. I was taught about the wrongs and rights in life but it was not in the same manner as it had been...

...Ethics Awareness Inventory Octavio Landeros PSYCH/545 - Survey of Professional Psychology August 12, 2013 Instructor: Mary Mc Greevy Abstract The purpose of the summary is to elucidate the importance of a personal ethical perspective and to scrutinize the affiliation between professional and personal ethics in psychology. The summary will analyze by taking into account the results of the Ethics Awareness Inventory (EAI). Ethics Awareness Inventory In today’s society, there is a fine and invisible line among individuals and professionals: ethics. The meaning has become so multifaceted that people’s views about ethics have become unstable and broad. Ethics relate to moral principles to guide individuals and to teach them how to conduct themselves in society by differentiating between rightness and wrongness. The standard of right and wrong defines the aspect of ethics. Ethical dilemmas will arise and will bring a tangle of questions to the professional. The professional will wrestle with questions that will be hard to admit to themselves and others (Pope & Vasquez, 2011). It is human nature to make rushed decisions and mistakes makes humans question their professional and personal ethics. Ethics will help the professional answer those tangled questions. An ethical awareness will let the professional weigh the choices that will affect the lives of colleagues, the public, and the clients. An ethical awareness will free the professional from the restraining webs...
