Two Heads of Consumerism Consumerism is define as the preoccupations of society, but two different authors take this universal definition and creates two vastly different articles. Although, both authors agree that consumerism is a form of a cycle or “paradox.”( Your Lifestyle) However, a notable difference in one article, “Your Life Style Has Already Been Designed”, is the way the author presents his evidence through his own personal experience. This author makes an effort in referencing himself through his own experiences with consumerism. In the beginning of this article he mentions his new job, but realizes how easy it was for him to make unnecessary spending, “I’ve been markedly more careless with my money.” (Your Lifestyle) This author also mentions the psychological aspect of how marketing is done at a very young age to Americans, which this stays with us …show more content…
They are the engine.”(McRaney) In my own words this quote is saying that anyone who thinks they are not involved with the masses of society have lied to themselves. These so called “underground people” are actually supporting what they are trying so hard to push away from. McRaney states in his article that they are the reason why unknown artist, musicians and film makers become shining stars in the mainstream media. Also on their pursuit of being unique individuals with their clothing they seek out to buy from unknown brands, but the truth of the matter is that they are creating new tread. This leads people wanting to start a new trend which is another example of how these under goers are fulling the things that they wanted to separate from the most. Could there be a larger examination of how this none mainstreamers effect main stream society with statistical analysis? Does this only affect America consumerism or does it go pass American
