...Aubrey Drake Graham born October 24, 1986 in Toronto, Ontario, who records under Drake. He is a Canadian recording artist, rapper, and songwriter. Drake started off playing Jimmy Brooks on the television series Degrassi. After that career was done he later rose as a rapper, after releasing a couple of mixtapes before signing with Young Money Entertainment (Kellman). For one Drake is one of my all time favorite music artists. He motivates me and puts me in a positive attitude with his original lyrics. The song “Successful” in the album So Far Gone and Ready sticks out as one of my favorite songs record by Drake. He pushes past the dilemmas in his life and all the dislike everybody throws at him but still does what he wants to do. Compared to other rappers, Drake has by far the most meaning in every song he produces. Drake has a music style that isn’t like any other; most of his lyricism is in regard to being rich and famous and also past relationships with strippers. “Drake's sound is labeled as "soft" for his genuine, forgiving lyrics and expressive melody.” (Lester). What is another thing that sets him apart from the rest is he has a wide vocabulary in his rhymes that he produces; you can tell that he is very high educated. From the album Take Care I can sing every song on that album because you can understand Drake when he raps. “Drake has a unique musical style that has set him apart from his Young Money counterparts, especially in his latest effort album “Take Care” (Markman)...

...read does not come from a book, a magazine, or a blog. It comes from a hip-hop song. The song was made by a Canadian rapper, turned singer, named Aubrey Graham. He is well known as Drake in the music industry. The song I am referring to is called ‘Jungle.’ There is one lyric in particular that caught my attention and stuck with me. The lyric itself personally inspires me to be my best and encourages me to keep moving toward success. The song is fairly new. It was released in February of 2015, along with seventeen other songs, on Drake’s album ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.’ This is his fourth commercial released album. It was randomly available on iTunes on the thirteenth of February. The album has been very successful, as well as his others. The album debuted as number one on the Canadian Albums Chart and the Billboard 200. Because of ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late,’ Drake became the first rapper to top Billboard’s Artist 100 chart. Jungle has the third most plays out of the whole album. Drake has always been one of my favorite artists to listen to. I feel his music is more relatable than others. Jungle really grabbed ahold of my mind and wedged itself in there, continuously playing even when I’m not listening to the actual song. It loops the same part of the song over and over again when I’m in apposition of giving up. It is a rather emotional song though. The meaning of the song is said to be about him realizing he was down playing his feelings for a woman...

...Anthem 1. A rousing or uplifting song identified with a particular group, body, or cause. With arching melodies, epic guitar riffs and rhythms inciting you to put your hands in the air, anthems give us a soundtrack to life’s defining moments. And for HANSON, their sixth studio album ANTHEM marks the beginning of their third decade of making music together. Over their first 20 years, brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson have made their mark. Five years building a fanbase as an independent band led to a meteoric rise with the 1997 international smash single MMMBop from their debut album Middle Of Nowhere. A long line of hits, four more studio albums, multiple Grammy nominations and over 16 million album sales followed. Over their second decade, the band charted their own course running an independent label while maintaining a coveted connection with their global fanbase, and in 2007 they launched a grassroots campaign to support poverty and HIV/AIDS relief in Africa (TakeTheWalk.net). Set for release in the US in June followed by worldwide release and a coordinated world tour, the bands sixth studio album ANTHEM is an album that celebrates the power of music to ignite passion and bring people together. “We have always been in awe of the ability music has to engage people, whether it’s a song that makes you want to dance, or a song that inspires you to take action for a cause. We want this record to be the anthem for all of those moments”, says Taylor. Following two years...

...When asking the question “When do you know your in love?” there is a common response of “When you are you will know.” That is a very frustrating response; it is far from concrete and can easily drive a person mad. Love is life’s mystery that everyone wants to experience. The love song, “When a Man Loves a Woman” (1966), by Percy Sledge can just about sum up being in love and the many ups and downs in less than three minutes. The woman’s love is all he needs but she can break him and “play him for a fool” and “he’s the last one to know”. This kind of love is near slavery in the control that the woman holds over the man. The line, “She can do no wrong” proves that the man is blinded by his love. Love hurts, especially when it is one-sided. There are no limits of what a man would do when he loves a woman. When Sledge wrote this song if he was not in love at the time he definitely knew what it was like to be ruled by love for a woman. The pain that you can hear in his voice tells it all. He has been there and that love was right in-between heaven and hell. “Maybe I’m Amazed” (1970), by Paul McCartney is a very simple love song with lyrics that hold a lot of meaning. McCartney’s approach to love in this song is humble and naturally, amazed. He is shocked that a woman can have such an affect on him and that she can love him so much when he is, as all humans are, far from perfect. Every now and then he shifts from Rufe 2 “maybe I’m amazed” to “maybe I’m afraid” because it is all too...

...I’ve never been a person to listen to rap music or any kind of music like that. I just don’t realize what the point of it is, what is it trying to tell you? It doesn’t have any message behind it and if they do then it a worthless message. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying that the music is terrible it just doesn’t appeal to me and it doesn’t seem interesting. To me, it all sounds the same. My friends find my taste in music weird because it isn’t a bunch of words strung together carelessly. My friend Astrid and I were waiting for my parents to come pick us up. “Do you know this song?” Astrid asked me. I shook my head, “No” I replied bluntly. “Oh my god you are sooo,” she didn’t finish her sentence, she tends to do that a lot. I still knew that...

...emotionally. The songs satisfies my soul and they bring joy and happiness into my life. To help understand the importance of music in my social life, I would discuss three of Alan Merriam’s musical functions namely; Emotional Expression, Aesthetic Enjoyment and Entertainment . How music functions in my social life. Emotional Expression: I like to listen to music that I find romantic for emotional expression when I am in a romantic mood. I listen to slow R & b songs or slow jazz music. One of my favourites is Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s get it on” . Aesthetic Enjoyment I also listen to music for aesthetic enjoyment. I listen to such music like jazz, blues and reggae songs that I find beautiful whether, I am exercising in the gym, driving in my car, working or even when I am at home. One of my favourites is Pharell Williams’s “Happy” and Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes’s “Wake up everybody” . This songs gets me going, they are truly beautiful songs. Entertainment: I listen to Rap and R & B songs when I want to entertain my friends and family. These songs help me get away from unnecessary distractions in life. One of favourite’s is Drake’s “0 to 100” and Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow” . Music is food to my soul. When I hear a good song, I sing along if I know the lyrics, I clap or sometimes I even dance. I love new songs and the old songs too. The old songs bring back memories of the “good old days”. Depending on my moods or state of mind,. I have songs I listen to, I even...

...top sixth form school. Rihanna won numerous beauty pageants and performed Mariah Carey "Hero" in a school talent show. Her life changed forever when one of her friends introduced her to Evan Rodgers, a producer from New York who was in Barbados for a vacation with his wife, who is a native. Rodgers arranged for her to go to New York to meet Jay-Z, CEO of Def Jam Records. He heard her sing and knew she was going to be incredibly successful. She was 16 when she was signed to Def Jam. Since then, she's amassed phenomenal success. After watching Rihanna’s 2013 Grammy performance of her hit song ‘Stay’ it led me to conclude that Rihanna has a Strong personality, an assumption which is based off the application of Evolutionary psychology and Existential psychology concepts. As she sang, the audience could feel her raw emotion, it didn’t feel rehearsed it felt real, which was only suitable since the song can be seen as a representation of the current dilemma she currently faces in her love life with ex lover Chris Brown. Existential Psychology is the study of human existence, however Rollo May focuses on concepts like freedom, responsibility, Authenticity, Death, courage, anxiety, destiny, dasein , daimonic , etc. All of which can be found in the traces of rihanna’s personality that is made visible to us. It is stated that the most important attribute of humans is freedom of choice. In the words of Sartre “Man is nothing else but what he makes of himself, such is the first principle of...
