...Me, I and myself I always ask myself: is it me, when I do something; could I do it better this time or did I do it for myself. I have time to think about these things while working. I work as a photographer and this job gives me a chance to express myself. It helps me even to understand some things better, because at first view I see things one’s way but after a while a see them completely different. The job gives me even the freedom to choose what to shoot and so the theme of my pictures often responds to my mood at that day. Or I can take pictures that will make me feel better than I do at that moment. Being a photographer is a job with so many various purposes – as many as the people are. Some photographers make only black and white pictures, other make colorful or extravagant or pictures that help in a science. The objective of the camera is like an eye of a man - everyone sees the world in a different way. But nobody can’t hide behind his work, even if he tries – it shows what we are. The most important thing for a picture to become a good one is to have its own feeling. When you a see a picture and it touches you, it rises in you some kind of feeling, that means that this capture was worth. Looking at some pictures make me think about many things and sometimes I can even change my point of view about something. While taking a picture I think about what’s my purpose for shooting exactly this or that. But after the picture is ready, it could...

...Styles After taking the LSI (Life Styles Inventory) survey, I noticed certain things about my personality and my thinking styles. Certain styles rated higher than others, but there were a few that stayed constant. The two longest style extensions have the greatest influence on my behavior, and are called your primary and backup styles. Going through these styles in particular, I noticed my primary style is approval and my backup style is conventional style. In the LSI index, “The Approval scale measures our need to be accepted by others to increase or sustain our feelings of self-worth. While the desire to be approved of is natural, problems occur when approval-seeking becomes a need, and ultimately our standard way of interacting with others.” This means I need people to approve my lifestyle. I try so hard for people to impress people with my personality and character, but sometimes it’s not enough. This style is categorized as having low self-esteem, an over concern with wanting to be liked as well as complications with conflict and confrontation. In this case, I am the type of person who tries very hard to be liked by others. Sometimes it can backfire because I show a persona of myself to people where I will act like someone I am not so that they accept me. In this world we live in, it’s a dog eat dog world where people don’t care about your feelings. They will do anything to get to the top of ladder. Personally, I am the type of person who truly feels better when someone approves...

...I have no single philosophy for life, but rather three philosophies. Each of which has different meaning. My three philosophies include the following: work hard, take pride in myself and the accomplishments that I make, and also everyone is on this planet for a reason. In the following paragraphs I will explain each of my three philosophies. From this, I hope that others will understand why I look at life the way that I do. The first of my three philosophies, to work hard, can be very easily explained. I feel that if money or a gift given to me by another person because I earned the reward is much more valued. In other words, knowing that I worked hard, did a good job, and deserve a reward makes me feel good inside. I also feel that all persons should have to work and support themselves. If a person doesn't wish to put forth any effort and work hard to support themselves, then that person deserves nothing. The next of my three philosophies is to take pride in myself and the accomplishments that I make. I have found that if I don't take pride in myself and what I do than I might as well give up on life. My reason for this being that no one else will think highly of me if I, myself, don't. I always set goals for myself before I begin a project or take part in an activity. My rule is to "Set my goals high, but obtainable," and although I may not always reach all of my goals that I have set, I should always be proud of what I have done. My final philosophy, everyone is...

...Me, Myself & I By Andrea Bridglal Everyone is born into this world innocent. How you live your life, day by day, the decisions you make, now that’s what really affects you. Sometimes, it might not always be your fault. There are people who will always try to bring you down. They’ll try to hurt you. There will always be someone to tell you that you aren’t good enough. If you let it affect you, now that’s on you. That was my mistake. Growing up in New York City, with a single parent, isn’t the most difficult thing in the world, but it sure isn’t that easy. My parents have been divorced since I was three and I never really had any kind of relationship with my dad. He’s an alcoholic and growing up, I realized I would never have the bond that I wanted to have with him. Unfortunately, it took me way to long to realize that. Instead, I pushed away the people who did care and those who did try to be there for me; my grandparents, my uncle, and most importantly, my mom. I felt like I was alone even though I wasn’t. Not only did I push people away, I found it very difficult to let people in. On top of that, I was different. I come from a West Indian, Islamic background and growing up as a minority made it even harder to make friends. September 11, 2001 changed my life completely. No, I didn’t lose a loved one but I did lose something with equal value, self respect. My self-esteem was shot at 7 years old. I became ashamed of who I am, the color of my skin, the texture of...

...Talley, SASI: I would like to find out more about the mental health condition PTSD(also own as Post Traumatic stress disorder) in the united states military. This condition is triggered by terrifying events. Either experiencing it or witnessing it. This condition is considered to be a relatively new diagnosis, as the name first appeared in 1980, the concept of the disorder has a very long history. That history has often been linked to the history of war, but the disorder has also been frequently described in civilian settings involving natural disasters, mass catastrophes, assault, rape, and serious accidental injuries. I would like to discover more on the disorder. After tragic events, many people gain this disorder. I would like to determine whether PTSD is curable. As a consequence of the complexity of this condition, my project will be a two-semester project. In my research paper, I will discuss the causes of the condition(PTSD), the US military's involvement in it, whether the condition can be cured or not, and what it has to do with civilians have to do with it. The research will come primarily from current periodicals, internet sources, interviews, and some historical texts. My Senior project committee will be composed of yourself (or the ASI), representative of the English Department, and representative of the Science Department. ...years to create who I am today. Within these years, I have been given the freedom to explore the world in order to satisfy my curiosity toward all the strange and wonderful things in the world around me. I grew up in a healthy family. I had an elder sister and a younger brother and this made my childhood days more colorful. My parents both had stable careers and this provided us with more opportunities to learn what we desired to. I remember when I was a young boy; my parents bought us a piano. I have been exploring music ever since my sister started taking piano lessons. This affected me so much that I insisted to my parents that I also wanted to learn piano. So I started my musical journey and continue it to this day. I finally completed my grade eight piano with a merit. After all the hardship I went through, success was finally shown in my result. I did not end my music after I went to secondary school. There, I joined the Chinese Orchestra Society. My purpose in joining this society was to learn more about my own traditional culture's music. I took a position in strings and my musical instrument is named "erhu". It is a traditional Chinese musical instrument similar to the violin. Instead of having 4 strings, an erhu only has two strings which can also produce beautiful musical notes as a violin does. I absolutely love the erhu and I have discovered that with the my background in piano, I am learning with tremendous speed. My teacher said that I am bestowed with talent...

...Third Generation (3G) mobile devices and services will transform wireless communications in to on-line, real-time connectivity. 3G wireless technology will allow an individual to have immediate access to location-specific services that offer information on demand. Mobile phones are rapidly becoming the preferred means of personal communication, creating the world's largest consumer electronics industry. The rapid and efficient deployment of new wireless data and Internet services has emerged as a critical priority for communications equipment manufacturers. Network components that enable wireless data services are fundamental to the next-generation network infrastructure. Wireless data services are expected to see the same explosive growth in demand that Internet services and wireless voice services have seen in recent years. Telecommunications service providers and network operators are embracing the recently adopted global third generation (3G) wireless standards in order to address emerging user demands and to provide new services. The concept of 3G wireless technology represents a shift from voice-centric services to multimedia-oriented (voice, data, video, fax) services. In addition, heavy demand for remote access to personalized data is fueling development of applications, such as the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and multimedia management, to complement the 3G protocols. Complementary standards, such as Bluetooth, will enable interoperability between a mobile terminal...

...Trapped is the story of a group of ordinary kids thrust into an extraordinary situation, when they are left alone, struggling to survive, at a remote scientific research station. For some of the kids, the research base already seems like a prison. No stretch of beautiful sand beach or warm turquoise sea is going to make up for being away from the "real world". For others, it's a coral paradise they are free to explore and enjoy, without having to share it with any tourists. And there's always the thrill of knowing that the work their parents are doing over on the research island is not only top secret but incredibly important for humankind. Then one day a stranger and his son fly in. The man flashes his ID card and heads over to the island research base, promising his reluctant passenger that he'll be back by dark, and they'll be out of there. Only he doesn't come back. And neither does anyone else. As the days pass, and there's no news, the kids come to realise that whatever has happened on the island has left them on their own, with no communications, two thousand kilometres from anywhere. Their only choice is to rely on their own resources to survive until they can find out what's happened to their parents, and uncover the terrible secret that is behind the Eden Project. And, at the same time, cope with all the usual challenges of growing up: Friendship, First love and Families. For, as the days pass, one thing becomes very clear: unless they find out the truth, they...

...Hybrid Bus Fact Sheet The region’s first biodiesel, electric buses will operate on area roads beginning summer 2010. Six new 40-foot Intercity Transit coaches Intercity Transit with a green “bubble” top will operate on a planet-friendly mix of biodiesel, ultra-low sulfur diesel, and electricity. The buses, funded largely with federal stimulus funds, will replace 14-year-old buses. What are the benefits of hybrid buses? Hybrid buses: • Significantly reduce emissions that cause smog, greenhouse gases, and public health issues, • Reduce fuel consumption about 25 %, • Require less maintenance, • Reduce diesel exhaust odor, vehicle noise, and • Have same operating reliability as traditional propulsion engine buses. How does the hybrid bus work? • Diesel-electric hybrid buses use both electricity and diesel, the same concept as hybrid automobiles. • Bus Batteries store energy and recharge when the bus decelerates. When demand for power exceeds battery capacity, the diesel engine provides extra energy. • The stored electricity is used for a cleaner and smoother propulsion. • A computer controls the output of the two power sources, diesel and electricity, so the buses always use the most efficient source. How were these buses paid for? Most of the cost was paid with federal funding. American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds accounted for $2.33 million, $750,669 came from other federal funds, and $575,000 from Intercity Transit (local match). What...

...sally adams Mr. hansen English 9 21 January 16 Sex Education in Schools Should sex education be taught in school? There had been many debates over this. They say that sex education only destroys the mortality of people because they think that sex education teaches students how sexual intercourse is done. Although sex education lowers the mortality of people by teaching them how to use condoms and contraceptives { birth control } it should be taught in intermediate { 7-9 } secondary { 10-12 } because (a) it prevents sexual diseases and teenage pregnancy (b) it is indeed a need in case of parents’ absence (c) it gives children an idea of what’s right or wrong. Others say that having sex education only encourages the students to engage in sexual intercourse and that it leads to sexual diseases and teenage pregnancy. The truth is that sex education does not encourage you to do it. According to bleakly (2006) “In a survey conducted, only about seventeen percent of the respondents answered that sex education encourages them to do “it”, and that the remaining eighty-three percent disagreed.” Sex education prevents sexual diseases and teenage pregnancy. But how? Students are taught how to use condoms. According to Masland (n.d), “Kids are becoming more sexually active at an earlier age.Sixty-six percent of high-school students have done it by their senior year”. These kids are in danger of sexually transmitted diseases {STD}.There is also a big possibility for them to get...
