The Meaning of Vocation The definition of a vocation can be interpreted in different forms, which eventually will either help fulfill that missing gap in life, or will end up bouncing back at square one. When one is not guided by the true definition of vocation, it may be easy to fall off the path God had planned for me. Lucky the Catechism of the Catholic Church and John Paul’s Meaning of Vocation can guide to what I will find happiness in. What I will need to do to answer the question” What is a vocation?” is first obtain the best definitions of a vocation, then what steps it may take to acquire my vocation, lastly talk about what I have been doing currently to discern my own vocation.
According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, vocation is “life in the Holy Spirit fulfills the vocation of man. This life is made up of divine charity and human solidarity. It is graciously offered as salvation “(CCC, 1699). John Paul II’s version is slightly different, and he says, “The vocation is a breathing of the Holy Spirit, who, at the same time as he genuinely shapes our fragile human reality, shines a new light into our hearts. He instills an extraordinary power that merges our existence into the divine enterprise” (MOV 16). How I interpret this is that God has a plan for me and when I follow it I will truly get to see and feel the happiness that every person strives for in their life.
How a person is called to discern their vocation, and how does one answers it? This question is simple to answer but is hard to actually go out and do. The one answer from John Paul II is “Do not be afraid to go out into the streets and public places like the first apostles, who preached Christ and the good news of salvation in the squares of cities, towns, and villages” (MOV 16). What he is saying to me is that we need to try things that we believe God has planned for me and if I

Mean Movie

...Mean Movie By Elton James Y. Gagni A typical movie about girls getting eaten by their own insecurities; that is what Mean Girls is all about. One minute you’re best friends and the next thing you know, you’re worst enemies. Released on the 4th of May year 2004 and adapted from the book written by Rosalind Wiseman, Director Mark Waters gives us a movie that shows how a home-schooled girl becomes a plastic in the most twisted way. The story, plot and dialogues were pretty easy to understand since it was made to show the life of teenagers in a twisted way. I did not lose my interest while watching the movie for the simple reason that the presentation of the conflicts from one character to the next and how these conflicts would end up being tied together making one whole mess in the end. Although it was exaggeratedly presented, it was still believable because this shows one aspect of a girl’s life where she forms a group and gossip about how they hate people and would only dream of having such chaotic confrontation as that of the movie. As expected, the movie used many gender stereotypes especially on women since the movie title already implies of such. Unfortunately, it did not break any gender stereotype thus; it ended up taking those stereotypes to a whole new level. The director’s touch is obviously seen since the whole movie made use of close-ups, if not extreme close-ups, and a lot of point-of-view shots. These shots helped a lot to show character development especially...

Mean Median Mode

...Mean, median, and mode are differing values that furnish information regarding a set of observations. The mean is used when one desires to determine the average value for data ranked in intervals. The median is used to learn the middle of graded information, and the mode is used to summarize non-numeric data. The mean is equal to the amount of all the data in a set divided by the number of values in that set. It is typically used with continuous figures. The result will probably not be one of the values in the data set, but is a representation of all those values. In other words, if I want to find the mean salary at a particular company, I would add together all the salaries and divide by the total number of salaries added: $50,000 + $56,000 + $54,500 = $53,500. The problem with mean figures is they are easily slanted by one figure that stands far above or below the others. In the previous example, if I have three annual salaries of $50,000, $56,000, and $54,500, and then the company president’s salary of $260,000, I will derive an average salary of $105,125. This mean is double the actual salaries of the lower paid workers. In this case it would be more appropriate to find the median salary. To find the median salary in the previous example, we arrange the data according to value: $50,000, $54,500, $56,000, and $260,000 and find the middle which would be $55,250. If I wanted to know the breakdown of salaries in the company, I would use mode. Using this method, I could compile...

What an Education Means to Me

...What Education Means to Me There are many questions that people ask in life, whether there important or not. It’s always funny when people ask “What does an education mean to you.” In my head I would reply “What does it mean to you?” But I simply just say… an education means the world. Education means my future, my life and, my career. As Brian Kaufman said “You get the better job with the better pay. But that is not the reason we should pursue a higher education.” And it’s not because there’s more in life then pay. So education means the things that others couldn’t have. Education means the night’s people read under the lamps that tried not to get caught. Education, things that others got beat brutally for. It means I have a chance to climb to the top. It means I get to prove the ones who downed me wrong. Education gives me the chance to make the ones who desired it proud. Education means I have a future. Education means I’m capable of a healthy living life. Without education I couldn’t read nor write this paper. Education means I have a chance. To know I have a shot to aim at my goal makes me overly excited. To know I can be anything I want with nobody stopping me makes me feel in charge. It’s not up to fate because it lies in my hand. It depends on me and what I choose. Education means that I determine who I’m going to be. It’s not like a dice that has to be rolled. It’s me and my decisions. So as you see Education means the world to me. This is because when...

Mean Girls Sociology

...Jocks, nerds, stoners, band kids, and the “it” girls are all groups that we automatically and exclusively associate with a high school environment; how many times have we stopped to consider where these segregated cliques originated or the purpose of their existence in our society? In the 2007 film, Mean Girls, the directors portrayed a comedic overrepresentation of these specialized groups in a way that actually raises a myriad of sociological questions regarding the inner workings of high school social behavior. Taking a closer look at this satirical, lighthearted movie can provide a sufficient amount of insight about how social fact and the social construction of reality dictate our behavior and our perspectives on society and the roles we play in it. I should start by explaining...

We know for a fact that the a’s from the population will appear on and off in each, the important thing is to ask how many times will each a appear? This result requires a proof even beyond my own capability, and I’m simply going to quote the result from my own observation: “If the population size is N and the sample size is n, each element in the population will appeartimes in the sampling distribution.” But we know that Again we will adopt a simpler notation temporarily. Mean Girls Essay

...Mean Girls is a film about an adolescent foreign student, Cady, who moves from Africa to a suburban area in Illinois (Lorne, Shimkin, & Waters, 2004). Consequently, she had to give up homeschooling. Cady is introduced to a typical, public high school full of cliques, which makes her question her individuality in terms of popularity. After befriending two outcasts, she ironically is drawn to the “plastics” – a group of domineering, popular girls. Cady is persuaded by her two unpopular friends to falsify a friendship with the plastics in order to reveal their deepest secrets and ultimately destroy their clique. Unfortunately, Cady ends up becoming one of the plastics herself, which causes her to lose connections with both cliques. Cady...

Mean and Standard Deviation

...Mean and standard deviation The median is known as a measure of location; that is, it tells us where the data are. As stated in , we do not need to know all the exact values to calculate the median; if we made the smallest value even smaller or the largest value even larger, it would not change the value of the median. Thus the median does not use all the information in the data and so it can be shown to be less efficient than the mean or average, which does use all values of the data. To calculate the mean we add up the observed values and divide by the number of them. The total of the values obtained in Table 1.1 was 22.5  , which was divided by their number, 15, to give a mean of 1.5. This familiar process is conveniently expressed by the following symbols:  (pronounced "x bar") signifies the mean; x is each of the values of urinary lead; n is the number of these values; and σ , the Greek capital sigma (our "S") denotes "sum of". A major disadvantage of the mean is that it is sensitive to outlying points. For example, replacing 2.2 by 22 in Table 1.1 increases the mean to 2.82 , whereas the median will be unchanged. As well as measures of location we need measures of how variable the data are. We met two of these measures, the range and interquartile range, in Chapter 1. The range is an important measurement, for figures at the top and bottom of it denote the findings furthest removed from the generality. However, they do not give much indication of the spread of observations...

Stereotypes In Mean Girls

...As a society, there are some things that we hold to a higher standard than other. These include appearance, employment and socioeconomic status to name a few. Although disheartening, some believe they cannot achieve everything they deserve without some if not all of these attributes. This tends to be true for adolescence who have been brought up by these ideals. The film Mean Girls directed by Mark Waters, makes it clear that popularity and appearance is all that teenage girls need to get ahead. That females who have these characteristics will ultimately succeed in life. Not only does that give a false hope to those watching the film, but it emphasizes the effect of bullying that is shown throughout the film. Cady Heron, played by Lindsay Lohan, moves to Illinois after being in Africa for twelve years with her parents who are in the zoology field of work. Cady is taken by surprise by public school life after being home schooled and meets up with Janis Ian and Damian who are more of the social outcasts and into theater and art. Cady is...

Mean Girls Stereotypes

...Mean Girls is a film that shows the relationships between Cady Heron, a new student, and the Plastics, a stereotypical group composed of Regina George and her side-kicks, Karen Smith and Gretchen Wieners. During the movie, Janis and Damien (who are friends of Cady) convince Cady to become Regina’s friend in order to destroy her reputation. Once Regina realizes Cady is faking everything, she frames her by giving the principal the Burn Book, a gossip scrapbook that the Plastics wrote about their classmates. The classic pop culture film revolving around four high school girl’s popularity is the perfect set up interpersonal conflicts. However, the Plastics’ friendship suffers from an imbalance of power. Regina dominates their relationship, making ridiculous rules like wearing pink on Wednesdays and not being able to have their hair in a pony...

Analysis of Mean Girls

...Reflective Analysis Caddy soon discovers that surviving in the African jungle is very similar to surviving the jungle that is her high school. On Caddy’s first day of school at a regular high school after being homeschooled her entire life she realizes how closely people’s behaviours resemble that of animals in the jungle. Many people can relate to the way she felt entering this new world as everyone has been in such a situation. Perhaps not to this extreme but I was once the new girl desperately trying to find my place in a new atmosphere. Caddy’s journey can also be related to recent recruits adapting to a new work environment, unknown to how things regularly go about. One of my jobs provided me with an outline of normal office habits; casual Fridays, on birthdays there are potlucks, the outline even provided me with some of the regular office language, short forms for certain documents, etc. This was a map to help me familiarize myself and integrate with greater ease. Unfortunately Caddy did not have this luxury, as many people don’t. She is forced to figure it out for herself. This hardship of adapting can easily lead us to not portraying our true selves to potentially avoid being shunned as an outsider. There are many stereotypes integrated into the movie. When Caddy is introduced as a new student from Africa the teacher welcomes an American black student instead of her. People easily believe her when she tells them that in Africa everyone can read Swedish, which portrays...

Stereotypes In Mean Girls

...Mean Girls (2004) Mean girls 2004, was directed by Mark Waters. Based of a book by Rosalind Wiseman “Queen Bees and Wannabes” and screenplay by Tina Fey. The movie was first developed by Tina Fey, calling Saturday Night Live’s producer Lorne Michaels to suggest Queen Bees and Wannabes if it could be turned into a film. Borrowing elements from the book, she then rewrote the plot from her own high school experience. Lindsay Lohan first read Regina George’s line but the casting team felt like she was more fitting into their Cady’s character and that it would harm her reputation at that time. Rachel McAdams was casted because Tina Fey felt her being “kind and polite made her perfect for an evil-spirited character. Amanda Seyfried also read lines for Regina’s role but the producers suggested her for Karen due to her “spacey and silly sense of humor”. Lacey Chabert and...
