...Literature INTRODUCTION: Every day you come in contact with many machines. There’s the clock radio that wakes you up, and the car, bus, or bike you take to school. You use calculators, computers, stereos, and phones throughout the day. Finally, you come home and use the microwave, stove, refrigerator, and electric can opener as you help with dinner. Our lives are a lot easier today, thanks to the mechanical engineers who imagined and built these tools. In a world where we depend on machines more than ever before, mechanical engineers keep things running. Mechanical Engineering is one of the broadest professions. The women and men in the mechanical engineering profession work in almost every industry, in private practice, in government, in medicine, in law, and in universities. Mechanical engineers touch almost every aspect of technology. They create machines, products and technological systems that benefit society. Their work can take them around the world - anywhere there are machines, there are mechanical engineers. The above statements prove that mechanical engineering is not an easy profession. This is the reason why we should consider the spiritual and educational needs. Spirituality means different things to different people. Some persons have religious needs. Spirituality can refer to an ultimate or an alleged immaterial reality an inner path enabling a person to discover the essence of his/her being; or the “deepest values and meanings by which people live.”...

...Personal statement Gulzhanat Akhmetova From a very young age, I had aspirations of becoming an engineer, because I wanted to build machines that did not require direct human energy being utilized. to In my childhood, instead of dolls, I loved robots and machines with remote controls. In accumulation, these factors increased my desire to learn more about engineering. Soon afterwards, I started to learn physics and I became a serious motor sport enthusiast, and so I could increase my knowledge, my brother presented me with a motorcycle. By doing so, my brother encouraged me to read further about engineering, and a few books later, I knew what I was devoting my life to. The more I learn about mechanical engineering, the more assured I become that a career as a mechanical engineer is what’s best suited to me. During my college carer, I have studied many subjects connected...

...Mechanical Engineering Personal Statement 1 Mathematics and Physics have always been my favourite subjects throughout my schooling career, mostly due to the implications on the real world. By taking Mechanical Engineering at university, I have the opportunity to continue with these two passions of mine. I have enjoyed carrying out practical experiments which can then be proved using mathematical calculations. I took part in a Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and specialised in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (REME) section. In this, five pupils maintained and repaired old cars then use them to practise driving skills on the school grounds. This has given me an insight of the engineering behind everyday cars and has increased my enthusiasm to study engineering at university and then possibly begin a career in this field. Over the summer, I arranged for an expert to take me out to see a nodding donkey and explain how they worked. Nodding donkeys are structures used to collect oil from the ground using fairly simple techniques and mechanical gears. Sport has led a major role in my life over the recent years. I have regularly taken part in inter-house matches in rugby, basketball, hockey, and five a side indoor football and represented my school in rugby. I also enjoy running and have taken part in two long distance races, one of which was sponsored and for charity. Music has also been a large influence on my life as I have been playing the Alto Saxophone since I was...

...Conference on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (ICTLHE 2012) in conjunction with RCEE & RHED 2012 The Study of Learning Styles among Mechanical Engineering Students from Different Institutions in Malaysia Yit Yan Koh, Yaw Long Chua * Inti International University, Persiaran Perdana BBN, Putra Nilai, Nilai, 71800, Malaysia Abstract Learning style is viewed as a method of education that is particular to personal study experiences to achieve the best learning results, which is some cases, the deep learning experiences. To date, researchers have recognized at least 21 components, where normal individuals would have 6 to 14 strongly preferred learning styles. The understanding of these learning styles will help the lecturers in their design of the delivery of lecture to suit students’ learning styles to achieve deep learning among students. This research aims to look into the differences in learning styles among Mechanical Engineering students from different institutions and levels. In accordance to this, this paper will report the analyses of the types of learning styles among engineering students. © 2012 Published by Elsevier Ltd. ...Personal Statement Graduate Application for Admission to Master in Computer Science Program in New York University, Tandon School of Engineering. Zhenbo Zhang My major passions are in science, mathematics and logical thinking, and I believe that Computer Science must be the inventive fusion of these disciplines. My original interests in the fields of Computer Science date back to my years in elementary school, I took the first Computer Science class in LOGO programming language. When the movements of the turtle, an on-screen “cursor”, formed a rather simple line graph as my commands instructed, it was easily one of the most memorable moments on record as I felt an unprecedented sense of accomplishment. Growing up, I was fortunate enough to...

...Independence from the British, my great-grandmother was fighting a personal battle with cancer. In those days, medical science offered radium radiation therapy to fight the dreaded disease. When I was a child, over dinner table conversations, dad would share stories of the family’s struggle and sheer helplessness in alleviating the suffering of the aging matriarch. His narrations would be laced with exasperated ‘if only’ and ‘times have changed’, fervently wishing that medical advancements in science had come about sooner than later. As curious as fish, I surfed the Internet, my generation’s answer to the Encyclopedia, and learned about the discoveries made by revolutionary bio-medical engineers in reducing the risk factor of terminal illnesses. The relentless efforts of these innovators have impacted me greatly and therefore, motivated by their social spirit, I have decided to join them in their quest for a cure. Planning my future consciously, I applied for a Bachelor’s of Technology in Biomedical Engineering at the prestigious Manipal Institute of Technology, Karnataka. The curriculum and practical instruction schedule of the course reassure me that I have chosen my future well. Extensive faculty interactions and...

SEVERAL YEARS LATER, TTHE SECOND CONFERENCE WAS HELD IN 1996 AT MESSIAH COLLEGE, IN GRANTHAM, PENNSYLVANIA. THE 1999 CHRISTIAN ENGINEERING EDUCATION CONFERENCE BROUGHT TOGETHER A DIVERSE GROUP OF DEDICATED CHRISTIAN ENGINEERS. IT WAS A DISTINCT PLEASURE TO HEAR THE WONDERFUL WAYS GOD IS WORKING IN THE VARIOUS PROGRAMS AND SCHOOLS REPRESENTED AT OUR MEETING. THE JUNGLE AVIATION AND RADIO SERVICE (JAARS) FACILITY OF WYCLIFFE WAS A FANTASTIC LOCATION FOR OUR CONFERENCE, AND WE ARE VERY THANKFUL TO OUR GRACIOUS HOSTS. A SPECIAL THANKS GOES TO CAROL WEAVER, THE JAARS CONFERENCE COORDINATOR. The goal of these conferences is to glorify God, to foster community among Christian engineering educators, and to encourage and challenge each other in our work of kingdom building. Abraham Kuyper, one of the great thinkers within the Reformed tradition of Christianity, has said that there is not one square centimeter of the creation that is not claimed by Christ. As Christian engineering educators of whatever tradition, we seek to stake that claim in our discipline, exploring how...
