The movie “Remember the Titans” is a movie that brings about many aspects of sociology. The movie was set in the 1970’s when the United States Courts made the ruling to end state segregation in public schools. This is the setting of this movie that casts Denzel Washington as Herman Boone who is the head coach of the Titans. Herman Boone is brought in as the head coach to join Bill Yoast the assistant coach and the all white coaching staff. At first Boone is reluctant to accept the position because of the stereotypes and criticism people have, however he accepts the position in order for the black residents and players to label him as a man they can respect and have pride in which is lacking in their community.
Racism and football is the main factor that leads to the difference in leadership and perspectives that each team member must learn and agree with in order to be a team that is going to win. Boone experiences very racist people as he was joining a community of all white families and had to try to bring together a school that was bringing together whites and blacks for the first time. Boone had a lot on his plate accepting the job as the head coach because the team was divided during these times when segregation was coming to an end. People were still very prejudice and not accepting of the new norms. As Schaefer states in the book, “One important and widespread ideology that reinforces prejudice is racism, the belief that one race is supreme and all others are innately inferior. When racism prevails in a society, members of subordinate groups generally experience prejudice, discrimination, and exploitation” (Schaefer 248). Herman Boone is a man with a hard exterior and someone that fights for civil rights. He is someone that people look to as authority. The black kids on the football team respect his authority and believed he may be able to turn the team

...I survived, and after 24 hours I am not at all ashamed to review my results. Everywhere I go, media surrounds me; at home, school and most definitely at my workplace. I spent a day this past weekend in a state of isolation. It was difficult to ignore all facets of media, and find other activities to substitute them. I felt alone, bored, out of the loop, and tired. My dependence on media is strong, and I felt as if there were a piece of myself missing. To be more specific, the use of media technology is one aspect that ties my family together. We rely on constant communication for safety purposes. My parents, siblings, and I are on opposite schedules, so it is very important to make sure we keep in contact and update one another. What I missed the most was having my iPhone in hand. I really missed listening to a voicemail from my mom telling me to have a great day, or receiving a text message every twenty minutes from my sister, blabbing on about something cute our cat just did. I use media not only for communication with family members, but also as a hobby of mine. One of my favorite past-times is working with media technology to create works of art. I focus a lot of my attention to all different aspects of media communication and apply it with my artistic ability to put together videos. My main ideas develop from the local news stations, movies, and magazines. The media plays a...

Media Analysis

...1. For this media analysis assignment, I have chosen to analyze the Trayvon Martin case. I decided to write about this case because the incident only occurred two years ago, which means the problem still exists today. I feel this case is important to call attention to because it highlights the violation of political and civil rights of the people and it emphasizes the larger issues that the United States are facing. This news story did not only circulate in the United States. It reached different parts of the world with the news going viral through the internet, social media, television channels, and international newspaper headlines. Trayvon Martin, a 17-year old African American teenager, was walking back home from a relative’s place when he was fatally shot by George Zimmerman. Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch coordinator, was suspicious of the teen, so he followed Martin and disregarded the police’s orders of not going after him. Although Martin was not armed, Zimmerman claimed that the shot was fired as a result of self-defense. Many people, both nationally and globally, were caught up with following Trayvon Martin’s story. At the same time, protests were growing rapidly across the nation. This case helped raise questions about the media coverage and how media can be misleading, biased, and effective. Also, the case aided in the examination of the state’s self-defense laws and magnified the issue of racism. I am going to stress how messages of the media are framed and try...
