...Media Report Paper Linda McGee & Wayne Miller University of Phoenix Media Report Paper A vital responsibility of an educator is examining the role of the media reporting of testing results. As well, how such results are taken and made relevant to making state and national decisions for education. When scrutinizing the results of testing, several matters need to be considered. Investigation of a report for the appropriateness for making high-stake decisions, whether or not there can be another way for fulfilling that purpose, and the relevance of accessing growth over time all need consideration when evaluating results within a report that is assessing our nation’s youth educationally. In looking at the appropriateness for making high-stake decisions in the description results for National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), it’s appropriate in a way because it is at least the same test being used for all the states and it also is measuring the same grade level year to year. However, the NAEP does not take into account the funding for different school districts. As well, there are cases of missing data for some states in subject areas, therefore skewing the data. Also, it admittedly cannot account for the higher instances in some states of disabilities and English Language Learners. Overall, it is not very appropriate given all the factors that could be faulty in its measurement endeavors to be a tool used...

Introduction It is without a doubt that globalisation has been the driver of the increased link between nations, allowing for the operation of many organisations in borderless economies. As globalisation continues to impact organisations, they are forced to undertake new and innovative approaches in order to maintain or gain a competitive advantage. As a result of this, many ethical issues have come to light, so it is important to acknowledge organisations adopting methods of corporate social responsibility. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) essentially encompasses the refraining from any action that will attract unfavourable publicity due to its social unacceptability (Carroll, 2010). The concept of CSR has proven to be an area of focus in recent times, especially in regards to consumers and stakeholders. ...was School of Rock. This film showed many of the genre conventions I would need and had a very formulaic structure to it. In aid of my DVD cover, I looked at many titles and found myself drawn to strong images of live scenarios, instantly showing off their music influences. A good example of this is the cover for School of Rock, which (ignoring the title) instantly linked to a musical background because of the large central image of a man (Jack Black) standing in the centre of the image with a guitar, highlighting the musical element of the film. I took strong inspiration from this, leading me to use a similar image for my cover, using a live setting and an instrument within the image. I took the image at a gig before I was given my media brief, so I was lucky that it fit my genre so well. For me to select my target audience I looked at many film titles and their ratings. Some of these included The Commitments, Killing Bono and Bandslam Most seemed to be centred on family or teenage audiences. I thought I would look more into...

...Crime Victim Studies: Arnecia Anderson Unit 1 Main Db. Participants of the clergy currently are vital to report child abuse in 27 States and Guam (Mandatory Reporters of Child Abuse and Neglect, 2012). In different lines of work it is more vital than other job professions. People who are in the line of working as social workers, childcare providers ,and teachers are more involved with children on a day to day basic so they are essential to report assumed child abuse. The media can service growth in quantities by states that include clergy in this group by stressing cases of child abuse in their place of residence. The option of the public holds a lot of power by informing politicians and lawmakers of what the issues are in the community. With people speaking out and offering solutions lawmaker knows what options they have and how the residents would be pleased with these solutions. In Indiana it is very important that child abuse should be reported. In Indiana mandatory reporting has existed for 15 years and if not reported the person can face jail time. ...1.0 Introduction Armco Inc. is a steel manufacturer that used to be the sixth largest in its industry in US (in 1990). The Kansas City Works within its Midwestern Steel Division was hit by the decline in the business in the US steel industry despite its good performance in the past. Consequently, it downsized and incurred significant losses in most of the 1980s. This entity produces two primary products including grinding media and carbon wire rod, one being recognized in the industry for its durability while the later being non profitable and only covering some of its fixed costs through volume. 2.0 What’s wrong with the old system? (a) Inconsistency with organization’s strategy The Objective of Armco Inc. is maximizing profits and sustaining its position among the leaders in the US manufacturing steel industry. To achieve this objective, Armco has adopted a cost leadership strategy with a broad appeal and has managed to grow bigger through joint ventures and expansion of its product lines in implementing its strategy. However, the strategy adopted by the Kansas City Works is based on differentiation due to its cost disadvantages such as union labor costs and inefficient plant infrastructure.Union labor costs in Kansas City were higher than those of some of its nonunion competitors, particularly those located in the Southeastern U.S. and non-U.S. locations. The Works had an inefficient plant infrastructure because the plant was designed to accommodate five times as many employees...

...As the director of a local television station I have two breaking news stories to share with our viewers. I have decided to report about the vote of the city council to close the city parks three days a week to save money. The second story we will report on will be the death of a celebrity. I decided to go with the council vote as my lead story because of the impact it has on the local population. Closing down the parks for three days will force the parents to find alternative places for their children to play. In today’s society children recreation is defined by Xbox, Wii and PlayStation. With rise of obesity among our children limiting the availability of the parks for the sake of money is poor politics. The city council should reconvene to find new approaches to saving money besides closing city parks. One submission is that we as a local television station can help promote a fund-raiser for the sole purpose of raising fund to keep the parks open for one or three of the days. Reporting on the death of a celebrity does not have the local concern of effect of the city parks story. Another reason I have chosen to make this my secondary story is that this story will possibly be reported on a larger media outlet. As a local television media we believe committed to our hometown citizens should be focus. Also putting the celebrity’s death second still keep our local informed of national news. By us reporting about the death of the actor will still maintain...

...products were primarily produced in Kansas City Works, grinding media and carbon wire rod. Kansas City Works’ manufacturing areas were divided into five centers which were: melting, casting, the 19” mill, the mod mill department, and the grinding media department. Kansas City Works was however not a low cost manufacturer. Each center consisted on one or more cost centers. The cost performance measurement used mainly was a summary measure called “Cost Above”. By using Cost Above measurement, manufacturing managers received an Operating Statistics Report. The Operating Statistics Report’s out gave managers five-year history, monthly and year-to-date actuals, monthly and year-to-date objectives, and variances. This report provided the same information that was used for financial reporting and inventory valuations purposes so when the manager’s familiar report was eliminated they became upset. The Director of Finance, Bob Nenni, implemented a new system in 1991 which he believed would create two major improvements. He believed the new system would help the managers focus to be on few key objectives and improve the basis for evaluation of managers. One of the main change for managers was the elimination of the Cost Above measure, this meant that the production managers were no longer accountable for the costs incurred in their areas. With the new system, the Operating Statistics Report was eliminated. The new reports that were...
