Physician Assisted Suicide

...Kader Lochina EN 102 Exploratory essay “Physician assisted suicide” Physician assisted suicide (PAS) is the voluntary termination of one's life by administration of a lethal substance with the direct or indirect assistance of a physician. It is legal in a few countries like the Netherlands. In the United States it is legal in only the state of Oregon. It is a very controversial topic with 3 different opinions groups. The group of people who are for it, those who are opposed to it and there is a third neutral group which is composed of medical associations. The first group is composed of the pro PAS .They argue that there are some patients who experience terrible suffering that can't be relieved by any other of the therapeutic techniques nursing has to offer, and some of those patients desperately seek deliverance. For pro PAS, PAS is not about doctors killing patients , but it is about patients whose pain cannot be relieved. Physicians who consider it merciful to help a patient to die by writing a prescription are not criminals. Supporters of PAS feel It is cruel to leave patients who need such help to find for themselves solutions to end their own lives, solutions that can be traumatic when human assistance can be available. The physicians have obligations, but when a cure is impossible and palliation has failed to achieve its objectives, there is always a remaining obligation to relieve suffering....

Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (Chip)

...insurance coverage. Although the primary focus of the program was to assist in improving the access to health care services among children, it was also a relief to parents who became more motivated to take care of the additional needs of their children. While Medicaid was introduced as a publically funded health care program to assist people seeking access to health care services, CHIP was specifically tailored to meet the health care needs of children. The main purpose of this essay is to present an exploration of Medicaid and CHIP. One of the key areas to explore includes examining the legislation that introduced Medicaid and its funding sources. Medicaid Legislation and Funding One of the key areas to examine with regard to Medicaid is the legislation that introduced this particular program and its funding sources. The legislation of Medicaid, Moore and Smith (2006) observe that it took advocacy groups like Trade Unions, Advocates, and Public Welfare Associations to enhance the visibility of medical concerns that were evident in the population. One of the challenges that seemed to persist before the legislation of Medicaid is the fact that not many people were able to see and fully understand the potential of Medicaid and therefore much attention was paid to Medicare instead. However, over time, some Federal Administrators among other key advocacy groups passed the Medicaid program into legislation. Funding for Medicaid is the responsibility of both the Federal Government...

Euthanasia

...Argument Essay Rough Draft Local Views and Legislation of Euthanasia Euthanasia is defined in Taber’s Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary as; “1. Dying easily, quietly, and painlessly. 2. The act of willfully ending life in individuals with an incurable disease. Ethical considerations of this act are being actively debated. One difficulty is how will the physician or society determine that the time for acting to kill the patient has come.” (Taber, Pg. 683). I choose this particular dictionary to reference the definition of euthanasia specifically because of the detailed explanation that ethical considerations are being actively debated. Some may contend that euthanasia is a practice to be upheld in the U.S.A. due to being a country of freedom and liberty, and that is kind to allow one’s suffering to stop. However, others remain opposed and stand firm on the notion that assisting death is unethical, un-Godly, and to be illegal. The debate of assisted-suicide is argumentative amongst society, doctors, and legislators in Hawaii and throughout the nation; with recent regards to changing current law, euthanasia should remain to be illegal. Assisting in death, encouraging death, and advocating for death is wrong in many ways. Societal opinions differ and are found to be expressed throughout Hawaii in organizations, churches, and personal testimonials. What causes one to even think that assisted suicide is an acceptable foreseeable option? An example pros for debate is the notion...

There have been a number of researches establishing relationship between work-life balance and organizational effectiveness. This paper is a humble essay to explore if there are indeed any best practices in implementing work-life balance –a catchphrase which most of the companies love to swear by –and whether a holistic model for efficient work-life balance program can evolve from what the companies at the top are following on the ground. The authors have also tried to present a critique of gaps in current work-life balance programs. The paper raises more questions than it answers and thus provides enough fodder for the intellectual investigation on the theme. Keywords: Work-life balance, Best Practices, Organizational Excellence Introduction Work-life balance programs have attracted the attention of corporate leaders in recent times thanks to significance of such initiatives in augmenting organizational...

Emily Rose Stigmatization

...society. Stigmatized groups tend to be alienated from other people in the community, and this includes their family and friends (Bayer, 2008, pg. 467-469). Due to this alienation, these individuals may develop the notion that they don’t belong and this may have adverse effects on their health and wellbeing. Stigmatization occurs due to sickness which affects the victims to the extent that they are unable to attend to some activities such as work. Stigma is, therefore, a condition that has adverse effects on people who are suffering from health conditions since it results in side effects such as depression and stress; these patients might reach a point where they cannot withstand the pressure and opt for other options such as suicide. In this essay, a case study of Emily Rose is used. She undergoes a series of events in her life where she becomes...
