Melaina
On an island off of Greece there once lived two friends in a small house. One of these friends, a girl called Kyra, went down to the river one day to go fishing. Several hours later, when Kyra had not returned home, Melaina began to worry for her friend’s safety. Worried and alone, she walked along the river looking for Kyra’s things. When she came across Kyra’s ragged old backpack full of fishing supplies, she felt her spirits lift and called out her name to no avail. Her voice echoed through the forest, receiving no response. Melaina frantically picked up the old backpack and searched the ground with the eyes of a hawk, hoping to see something that would lead her to Kyra. Thalia was trying to stop her. “You can not expect us to let you go out there and fight Scylla on your own!” There was an anxious tone to her voice. She was scared. “And I’m not going to let you help me when you could die. We barely know each other!” Melaina responded. As the argument became heated, Darrius used his freedom to gather swords and armor from the lower decks. The gear looked ancient, as if it should be covered in rust. But instead it shone in the moonlight, as bright as the stars above their heads. Seeing the gear tore the girls away from their argument, both understanding the siblings would be accompanying Melaina to the island. The plan was this: Darrius would steer the boat away from Kyra, luring the sea monster after him with taunts. Then the girls would float to shore on one of the smaller boats kept on board the ship. Arriving on the beach, Melaina would untie Kyra while Thalia prepared the boat so they could set out to sea once again, meeting up with Darrius on a piece of land nearby after he killed Scylla.
