It allows for pupils to access work in the case of a teacher being absent, teachers may also display messages about extra curriculums on the gateway and any other relevant information. Oldbury Academy also uses a system called SIMS (School Information Management System) which allows teachers to track the whereabouts of any given student via giving them a present mark and electronically noting down their timetabled lessons. ...Dear Mom and Dad, I’d like to say something cute and catchy here…but instead, I’ll just get to the point of why I’m sending you this message. Danielle and I will be going on our 1st mission trip that will travel to Ecuador on November 2nd, 2013 to invest into the lives of children and families living in abject poverty. God has touched our hearts and opened our eyes to the harsh realities and living conditions that no child should ever have to endure. Yet, they do. The children that we will be caring for ‘endure’ in the most heinous and dire circumstances. On this trip, we will be partnering with two organizations that are on the front lines caring for children and families in need. The first half of our trip will be spent at Nuevos Amigos. Our church, RiverTree Christian Church, has recently assumed the operational responsibilities of Nuevos Amigos, a school located just outside of the capital city of Quito, Ecuador. It's mission is to operate a school that seeks to walk hand in hand with families to ensure that children receive spiritual guidance, quality education, and loving care that complement a healthy home environment. The other half of our time will be spent serving one of the churches and child development projects that our church helped start through Stadia Church Planting and Compassion International. This church is located on Pampanal Island, located off the northern most coastline of Ecuador. There are roughly 250 chlidren on the...

...Chapter One Introdution: Fundamentals of Business Writing I. The major differences between school writing and business writing School writing, typically in the form of essays, is aimed at impressing the audience, i.e. examiners. To score high, student writers have to use fairly complicated vocabulary and sentences in their written work. Business writers, however, mainly aim to communicate information to their colleagues, clients, and other associated parties. They are relatively free to use what language that can get the business done efficiently and effectively. II. Seven steps in the process of wring 1. clarifying your aim 2. identifying your readers 3. making a general plan 4. sketching a synopsis (大纲) 5. drafting your text 6. putting the draft aside 7. revising and editing ★ Writing is a recursive and creative process. The detailed plan is not adhered to in actual writing. Writers frequently come up with ideas that are activated in the process of writing. Writers read the text they have already produced to help generate more ideas. In effect, the writing process is no linear at all but is characterized by recursive ness and creativeness. III. Three principles of business writing 1. Clarity – means setting your message across clearly. (See detailed information on page 4) 2. Consideration – good business writers take their readers’ needs, problems, and reactions to the writing into consideration. And they...

(a calendar year C corporation) announced its intention to construct a manufacturing facility in the Shenendoah Valley. In order to convince the corporation to locate the facility in Augusta County, the county contributed a six-acre tract of undeveloped municipal land to Connor Inc. The appraised value of the land at date of contribution (December 6, 2003) was $475,000. During 2004, Connor Inc. paid $9,300 to an attorney to do a title search to make sure that the corporation had uncontested ownership of the land. The corporation also paid $3,850 2004 real property tax on the land, $16,400 for a complete survey and detailed site map of the six acres, and $7,900 for two water wells drilled on the land. In January 2005, the attorney discovered that the Estate of Elsa Reynolds claimed title to the six acres and was preparing to file suit in Virginia state court to regain ownership and possession. The attorney advised Connor Inc. that the estate’s claim appeared valid and would be upheld by the court. Consequently, the corporation informed Augusta County that it was renouncing all claim to the land and would build its new manufacturing facility in Rockingham County. In August 2003, Connor Inc. purchased 115 acres of land in the Tidewater area of Virginia for a total...

He’s going to open a limousine service company named Landslide Limousine in Austin, Texas. He plans to hire twenty-five employees in the first year. ...to each should be different. A manager should also be aware of ethics and personal privacy when writing. It is easy for a manager to inadvertently create a problem for the company by doing something considered unethical by some or by invading an employee’s privacy. This course helped to understand how a manager should consider ethics and privacy when writing. This course also covered the considerations a manager must give an audience when deciding how much the audience knows about the subject matter. A manager does not need to assume the audience knows more information than it does, but he must also not bore an audience with subject matter the audience already knows. Lastly, a manager must keep in mind formality of documentation. A memo should be a more formal document than an e-mail. An e-mail to a fellow employee can be more informal than an e-mail to someone outside the company or to a customer. All of these points covered in the class will help to create more appropriate documents for every business occasion. [pic] ABC Apparel “Clothing that fits every need…..” 373 Apparel Drive...

...UVA-OB-0167 Rev. Aug.16, 2011 JOHN WOLFORD (A) John Wolford, a vice president and general manager for Eurotech-USA, awoke with a start and looked at his iPhone. “Damn it!” he exclaimed angrily. He had carefully set its alarm for 5:00 a.m., and it was now well past 6:00 a.m. It was Wednesday morning, and Wolford’s mind raced as he thought about all the details he had to attend to that day: a meeting with his boss, a funeral, a briefing from the CFO, and preparation for a three-day trip to London, which required packing bags, confirming plane reservations, and paying personal bills. To complicate matters, he would be attending a six-week residential management-development program almost immediately after his return. He was overwhelmed. Wolford’s Background Wolford was 41 years old. He had been born and raised in Los Angeles. After graduating from the California Institute of Technology with a degree in mechanical engineering, Wolford accepted a position with Hewlett-Packard, a technology company in Silicon Valley. After working for Hewlett-Packard in design engineering for five years, Wolford got married, bought a house in Los Altos Hills, California, and began attending management courses in the evening. Shortly thereafter, he accepted an engineering management position with Precision Instruments, Inc., (PI). During the next 10 years, he held various engineering management positions at PI, and when the company was acquired by Eurotech, Ltd., a European multinational, he...

...Types of Information used by Biddenham Upper School Verbal - The sharing of information between individuals by using speech. Individuals working within a business need to effectively use verbal communication that employs readily understood spoken words, as well as ensuring that the enunciation, stress and tone of voice with which the words are expressed is appropriate. There are many types of verbal communication, for example; telephone and face-to-face. Telephone communication happens when people want to book holidays with hotels over a phone. The advantages of doing this is that the customer knows exactly what they are getting and their special requests can be taken on board and accepted. An example could be, Biddenham informing parents of concerns about their child. Whilst on the phone the staff needs to have a positive and friendly tone of voice and to be helpful making sure everything the customer’s need is catered for. A skill required when communicating via telephone is being able to use the phonetic alphabet. This clears things up between the customer and staff so there is less chance of confusion of names and addresses. Face-to-face is when the communicator transmits his message in person to the receiver in person verbally and even non-verbally. Thus, face to face communication is both verbal and non-verbal. Involves all of the ways people can communicate when they are interacting face to face, for example Biddenham Upper School may use face-to-face communication when they...

...NELSON MANDELA METROPOLITAN ELECTRICITY & ENERGY DEPARTMENT A CASE STUDY It was an “Initiation” management committee meeting for Jack Simons, the newly appointed General Manager (GM) for the Electricity & Energy Department at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality. He was recruited from Eskom just over three months ago. He was replacing Piet Volsoo who opted for an early retirement after 17 years with the Municipality. Management committee meetings are known for heated exchanges between various divisional heads, GMs, city manager and the mayoral committee members. Having worked for a corporate giant as Eskom, the challenges at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality (NMMM) were not insurmountable he thought to himself. Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality came into existence after 2000. It is the amalgamation of the Port Elizabeth, Uitenhage and Dispatch Municipalities. It supplies electricity to an area of 1959,9 square kilometres. It receives its supply at the Chatty main 132kV intake substation from Eskom and distributes it at primarily 22kV, 11kV and 400 V to 225 large industrial customers, 41 081 medium businesses and 155 758 domestic consumers. The Electricity department has also initiated a major drive to electrify the informal areas within the Metropole. This was a “strategic priority” according to the recently approved Integrated Development Plan of the Metropole for 2002 – 2006. It has electrified 62 600 erven at a cost of R63 million since 1995...
