...company. He moved the shop to the location it still has today (24 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré) and with the help of his two sons, his national renown, and France's influence at this time, he sold his products (harnesses and saddles) to the elite of Europe. However, the company really expanded during the time when it was led by Charles-Henry Hermès sons, Adolphe and Emile-Maurice Hermès. If Adolphe stayed rather discreet, Emile-Maurice took the company to an other level. He achieved to get the exclusive use of the zipper for leather goods and started to produce clothes, even some unique pieces such as a golf jacket exclusively made for the Prince of Wales. He launched new product lines (clothes, handbags, scarves, jewelry, ties, perfumes, watches) and established the presence of the company in the United States. With one of his sons in law, Robert Dumas, he created one of the most iconic product of the company, the « Sac à dépêches », that became few years later the « Kelly bag ». Charles-Henry Hermès was a great leader who successfully developed the company and imposed his philosophy. There is no doubt that he is also considered as a hero in the organization. Then succeeded Robert Dumas-Hermès, who adopted the duc-carriage-with-horse logo and officialized the name of « Kelly bag » for the «...

...Christopher Cox Patricia Huhn English 121 20 February 2012 Education and Language Education and its effects on the individual is the primary focus of the essays by Richard Rodriguez, Leslie Silko, Firoozeh Dumas, and Gloria Anzaldua. Rodriquez’s “Achievement of Desire” illustrates how education can take the place of one’s cultural tradition in pursuit of knowledge. The loss of language is the focus of Silko’s speech, “Language and Literature from a Pueblo Indian Perspective”. “The F Word” by Firoozeh Dumas shows how profound words in one language can be funny in another, as well as hurtful. In “How to Tame a Wild Tongue” by Gloria Anzaldua, she talks about how the education system tried to remove her culture by taking away her language. The two authors take opposite views on education and how it directly affected their lives. While embracing education by becoming a scholarship boy, Rodriquez shows how his desire for knowledge overcame his families’ desire for cultural tradition. Anzaldua expresses her feelings about how education continually tried to forcefully remove her Spanish heritage. The term “scholarship boy” came from Richard Hoggart’s The Uses of Literacy and means that the student must move between two culturally extreme environments during their progression of education. In Rodriquez’s account of his early educational experiences, he demonstrates Hoggart’s core definition of being a scholarship boy to the tee. While finishing his dissertation in the...

...of romance they think of the basic Hollywood romance… girl and boy meet, fall in love, get married and live happily ever after. Although Alexandre Dumas is best known for historical fiction, his writing has an undertone of romance with chivalry and gentlemanly ways that never went out of style. In “The Man in the Iron Mask”, the third book in “The Three Musketeer Trilogy”, Dumas wrote about bonds that were indestructible. During Dumas’ youth, he battled poverty, lack of education, and racism. “A gentleman once began to make racist remarks within earshot, and when he finally said, “Mr. Dumas probably knows a thing or two about Negroes, since so much black blood runs in his veins,” Dumas coolly responded, “Yes, of course. My father was a mulatto, my grandfather was a Negro and my great-grandfather was an ape. You see, sir, my family began where yours left off.”(Foote-Greenwell p. 2). “In 1823 Dumas moved to Paris with nothing but his wits, memory and elegant writing. He got a job as a...

...(Moore, 2016) (Moore, 2016) is about a man named Jose Ferreira who called into WISN 12 News reporting details about the death of Carrie Ann Jopek who went missing in 1982. “Jopek went missing after she was sent home from school for roaming the halls” (Moore, 2016). “The case went quiet until someone repairing an old deck came across the girl's body 17 months after her disappearance” (Moore, 2016). “Jose Ferreira was charged with second-degree murder and “Remains in custody in Milwaukee County Jail” (Moore, 2016). Inner control is defined as something that “Comes from the inside which is developed through socialization and the feeling of guilt” (Dumas, September 23). Inner control is done through socialization. The reason for conforming is that “It will make the offender feel good and the feeling of guilt; a feeling inside will pass” (Dumas, September 23). The article is connected to inner control because of what Ferreira had to overcome to call the news station and report the crime that he had committed. The feeling of guilt is something that haunts you and is a negative feeling inside of you that you can never escape no matter how hard you try. As stated in the article “Ferreira was a teenager when Jopek died. He is now 50 years old”...

Father Magin Ferrando, college registrar of Ateneo Municipal, refused to admit Jose because: * He was late for registration and; * He was sickly and undersized for his age (11 years old). ...lessons where he became familiar with the works of Frédéric Chopin and Friedrich Kalkbrenner. Unfortunately, music had not yet been incorporated into Russian education so his parents never considered the possibility of music as a career for their son. Encouraged to study law instead, at the age of 19, Tchaikovsky completed his legal studies and began work as a petty clerk in the Ministry of Justice where he remained for four years. In 1862, Peter left his job to focus on his true passion, music, at the newly founded Saint Petersburg Conservatory where he studied under Anton Rubenstein and Nikolai Zaremba. Shortly thereafter, in September 1866, Tchaikovsky accepted a teaching job at the new Moscow Conservatory as a teacher of theory. During his 11 years there, and until his retirement at the age of 37, he composed his Concerto no.1, the ballet Swan Lake, four operas, three symphonies, and a collection of some of his smaller works. Although excluded from the “Russian five” because they believed him to be too cosmopolitan, and Howland 2 too influenced by other nations, he still remained very close to the group, especially with Mily Balakirev and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Many critics often considered Tchaikovsky “the sixth member of their circle.” Antonina Miliukova became his wife on July 18, 1877, shortly after he had made up his mind that he would “marry whoever will have me.” His marriage, however, turned out to be a mistake for the composer as...

...Microprocessor Design/Register File Registers are temporary storage locations inside the CPU that hold data and addresses. The register file is the component that contains all the general purpose registers of the microprocessor. A few CPUs also place special registers such as the PC and the status register in the register file. Other CPUs keep them separate. When designing a CPU, some people distinguish between "architectural features" and the "implementation details". The "architectural features" are the programmer visible parts; if someone makes a new system where any of these parts are different from the old CPU, then suddenly all the old software won't work on the new CPU. The "implementation details" are the parts that, although we put even more time and effort into getting them to work, one can make a new system that has a different way of implementing them, and still keep software compatibility -- some programs may run a little faster, other programs may run a little slower, but they all produce the same results as on the earlier machine. The programmer-visible register set has the biggest impact on software compatibility of any other part of the datapath, and perhaps of any other part in the entire computer. The architectural features of the programmer-visible register set are the number of registers, the number of bits in each register, and the logical organization of the registers. Assembly language programmers like to have many registers. Early microprocessors...

...If anything, the rise of positivism and rationalism left less scope for examination of her role being one of latent power. Nietzsche typifies the era by giving his Dionysus the last words of the story that seem to confirm Ariadne as but an aspect of her man – ‘I am your labyrinth…’ (1888-95).Building upon Hugo’s association of her thread and the theme of progress (1859), Ariadne’s thread began to appear independent of Ariadne herself. ‘Memory’ symbolically holds a ball of thread in Gautier’s Emaux et Camées (1852), though no parallel figure for Ariadne herself is to be found. By the end of the era, 1910, what became the Aarne-Thompson classification system for folktales was published. The tale of Ariadne, once important for Romantics mainly based on her subsequent association with Bacchic power, was instead eventually seen wholly in terms of her thread giving status as the archetypal 313C – the girl as a helper in the hero’s...

...First Surrealist Manifesto From Le Manifeste du Surréalisme, 1924 ANDRÉ BRETON We are still living under the reign of logic, but the logical processes of our time apply only to the solution of problems of secondary interest. The absolute rationalism which remains in fashion allows for the consideration of only those facts narrowly relevant to our experience. Logical conclusions, on the other hand, escape us. Needless to say, boundaries have been assigned even to ex- perience. It revolves in a cage from which release is becoming increasingly difficult. It too depends upon immediate utility and is guarded by common sense. In the guise of civilization, under the pretext of progress, we have suc- ceeded in dismissing from our minds anything that, rightly or wrongly, could be regarded as superstition or myth; and we have proscribed every way of seeking the truth which does not conform to convention. It would appear that it is by sheer chance that an aspect of intellectual life - and by far the most important in my opinion — about which no one was supposed to be concerned any longer has, recently, been brought back to light. Credit for this must go to Freud. On the evidence of his discoveries a current of opinion is at last developing which will enable the explorer of the human mind to extend his investigations, since he will be empowered to deal with more than merely summary realities. Perhaps the imagination is on the verge of recovering its rights. If the depths of our minds conceal...

Jesuits introduced physical culture as well as art cultivation, such as music, drawing, and painting. Agriculture, commerce, and mechanics were part of their vocational courses. Being a religious institution, Ateneo’s principal purpose was to mold character. Rizal entered Ateneo de Municipal in 1872. He describe his first professor, Fr. Jose Bech as a “man of high stature; lean body, bent forward; quick gait; ascetic physiognomy, severe and inspired; small, sunken eyes; sharp Grecian nose; thin lips forming an arch with its sides directed toward the chin." During his second year in Ateneo he had the same professor as in the previous year; but instead of lodging outside the City, he resided at No. 6 Calle Magallanes.
