...My home is where I had some of the best memories of my life. On the day of Thanksgiving we could not prepare our favorite Thanksgiving traditions, so we ordered a pizza from Cost-co. Every past Thanksgiving from what I could remember, was always a massive celebration. All our family came from out of town and across the country to celebrate the Thanksgiving with us. It was one of my favorite holidays, having all our family was together always brought back good memories, but due to our situation, we were not expecting any of our relatives this year. However, when we heard several footsteps rushing through the stairs, we immediately knew who it was. Every single aunt, uncle, and cousin at our door step, everyone was carrying an abundances of food tamales, pozole, and even a turkey. The surprise overwhelmed us with joy. Although we did not any furniture, we...

...family for having such a comfortable place to call home? Luckily my sisters and I were born in the matanuska valley and raised in the mountains of Talkeetna, Alaska. We were always adventuring among the steep mountains, tredging through powdered snow and spending weekends at the cabin with my family. The cabin was our safe haven. We enjoyed listening to the birds sing through the snowy trees while keeping cozy and warm around the woodstove. Despite our warm memories and happy emotions; The cabin and the Talkeetna mountains fosters memories of a life changing catastrophe, that altered my perspective of life forever. It all began on the day of March 5, 2010, I was eleven...

...GOODBYES ARE NOT FOREVER I never thought I could get this attached to my classmates, so attached that I have mixed feelings as we graduate. I am happy for I know how much we’ve waited for this. I have felt our excitement for it vibrated throughout our classroom as we started with our countdown. I know that we’re happy because of the new freedom close at hand, a new challenge which perhaps tingle our spine from time to time. Yes, graduation has offered us a different kind of happiness. Yet, I’m sad deep within for I know that after this, we’ll go on our separate ways, living our separate lives. I have this creeping feeling we’ll barely see each other from now on. Hey! You’ll be pursuing your dreams and I’ll be pursuing mine. I’ll be forgetting my dear classmates for a while as I daringly take hold of a new chapter in my life, and I guess they’ll do the same too. You know, “forget the buried woes and dead despairs for there’s a brand new trial right at hand.” And then, as we settle down in our new “nest”, we’ll start remembering each other, and all shall be coming back – the laughters, the tears, the jokes, the songs – every little moment I have shared with them. But for now, I have to move on. I have to search for my rightful place in “the circle of life.” Then, though fate may separate us, I hope that sometime, somewhere, we’ll meet again. I shall look forward to that day when I can embrace you and we shall talk, laugh, cry and...

...Dad’s Eulogy My dad, Jitendra Patel, was a great man. He was loved by his wife, four kids, and his parents. Many people have expressed symphony about my dad’s long and painful battle and how hard it is to see him in the hospital for months. I realized after he passed that I was grateful for the time I spent with him during the last couple of days of his life. I didn’t appreciate moments that didn’t mean anything at the time, but those moments are the ones I am going to cherish forever. I remember when I was around 8 years old, during the summer we used to play basketball with my sister and cousin. I’m not going to have someone telling me the weather in the morning so I know what shoes to wear or to ask me how school was but I will always...

...always be there for you no matter what. My family supports me in everything I do. All their time and money cannot express how much they love me because love is more than any of that. Love between families is a special bond of time, laughs, smiles and memories. Love is something that family doesn’t have to say to each other because we already know and I am blessed to have a family that loves me in every way possible. As for friends, I’ve learned something important about friends. You will meet many people throughout your days and for a moment in time you will be that person’s friend or more. Friends are the ones that stay by your sides during the bad and will never intentionally stab you in the back. To all my friends here tonight, thank you for everything; I hope we’ll continue our friendship for many more years to come. Ahead is a new journey, not only for me but for all of us. And what I have to say to that, “Challenge accepted.” I can only imagine the way my parents are going to feel watching me grow up more and more and having to let go little by little each day but even then my imagination cannot comparable to the feelings they feel. Even then, I willingly accept this new chapter of my life which I wouldn’t have been able to reach without every single one of you. No matter how small to how big of an impact you’ve had in my life, I thank you all equally. So now I will end my speech with a thank you. Thank you for joining me in celebrating...

...times of procrastinating, I realized, why don’t I write something I can relate to? Or something I’ve been through? Bear with me, my fellow caballeros and fair ladies. There are so many relationships that man can have in a short time. Born to parents, grow up with siblings; fall in and out of love and of course, experiencing these with friends. Friendship is such a big word to describe. Maybe if I’ll ask you right now, you’ll struggle into defining it. What does friendship really means? Let me share mine to you. For me, it means UNDERSTANDING. It is more than an AGREEMENT. It means FORGIVENESS, not FORGETTING. A friend is someone who stands by you when everyone else left. Sometimes, your girlfriend or your boyfriend, and your family won’t even exist for a while but a friend will always stand by his ground and he will never judge you. I have always known that change is inevitable. Sometimes, I wonder why people are getting affected all throughout even the process repeats entirely. People come and eventually go even those you TRUSTED the most, those whom you thought will STAND by you, those whom you thought will UNDERSTAND why you became who you are now because they know you too well, and those whom you thought will stay. There will always be those people who’ll leave no matter what; no matter how many beautiful memories you made. Leaving leaves too much pain in me that I can’t trust that easily. It has always been a traumatic experience that I always encounter in my life...

...My freshman year in High School I participated in athletics. I was initially on the JV team, but because of my exceptional performance both on the track and in the classroom, I was moved to the Varsity team. This further elevated my leadership skills and helped me communicate better with my peers. Then my sophomore and junior year I was apart of multiple honor societies and their connected activities. Mu Alpha Theta, a math honor society, involved themselves in a multitude of city events as well tutoring kids in low income and underrepresented areas and schools. National Technical Honor society is another group where I participated in helping in local events and fundraisers. My senior year, multiple groups of organizations, came together to...

But I would always say “there is so many people out there getting the food” and they would reply “so if everybody is jumping off a cliff, are you going to do that too?” Basically they would always say it’s never a good thing to do what everyone else is doing, which I would understand what they were saying but how harmful could some BBQ be.... ...Last summer in 2013, my kids and I went to visit my dad and loving grandparents in a town called homestead near Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Returning after 12 years of being away, everything looked differently. Many of the stores there seem to be new; there is even a theatre at the waterfront now. Although I have been in this place before everything seem very foreign. I could not help but think that perhaps those things were already there from the gate. As a child my father never let me out the house. I was not allowed to go to the movies or shopping with my friends. I felt alone. My father and I never really got along, we are too much alike, so visiting this summer, I was apprehensive to how my visit would turn out. Upon arrival, my grandparents’ house was first on my itenery. As we approach there house I walk in, to the familiar scent of old wood, moth balls, and ancient drapes filled my nostrils. I walked towards my grandparents, I could still hear cracks of the old wood floor. Childhood memories started to fill my head as enter a cubicle that use to be my room, which now is being occupied by my brothers clothing. My grandparents have 7 bedrooms in there home. My father also lived with them he stayed upstairs in the attic. Living with my father, he insisted on me being upstairs with him right up under his nose, uncomfortable, srunched up, with no privacy. My life with him was so miserable. I was so glad that we were just visiting. Knowing that I was not going to have to re live...

...Family I believe family will last a lifetime. Family is always going to be there for you whether you having a bad day, or even a good day, no matter the time or situation your family will always be by your side. Nobody gets the option of choosing the family their born into or the family members, this is why I am so grateful for mine. I feel I was blessed to be born into such a loving, caring, compassionate, supporting family. Friends come and go, and that’s okay because you always know that no matter what your family will always be with you. Not everyone is lucky to have a family. Many people grow up in orphan homes, not knowing the true meaning of family. The only family they ever knew growing up was the staff where they lived and the other orphans that are in the same position as they are. Some people have to deal with tragedy, seeing one of their family member being taken away from them. You just have to cherish your family as if it was the last time you were going to see them. My family is the farthest away from perfect, yet I wouldn’t trade them for anything. We’ve had our ups and downs, especially through my parents’ divorce, but in the end I believe it only brought us all closer, and really made us the strong family we have become today. No matter what obstacle life has thrown our way, we have always overcome the situation because that’s what families do; they fight through the hard times, stick together, never stop loving one another until the time comes where things...

...On a day to day basis, we are influenced by something, or someone that has a lasting effect in our lives. The fondest memories of my life have all been influenced by family members. To my belief, my mother Roslyn Stephens is one of the most influential. I appreciate my mother and all that she has sacrificed just to supply for me. When I describe my mother, there is nothing critical about it; it is all admiration. She is currently a Registered Nurse and is continuing school to achieve her Masters degree. She works with elderly patients who are very close to meeting the angel of death. My mother goes from house to house to supply medication to the elders in hopes of delaying their meeting with the angel of death. Seeing her at work is very awe-inspiring, especially her ability to put the elders at ease; knowing that their fate is inevitable. Every single one of her patients adores and trusts her; she is truly gifted with emotional intelligence. She has the ability to walk in a room, find the bleakest person there, and make them smile. This is where I inherited my compassionate trait from. If I see someone that is uncomfortable or dejected, I feel as though it is my responsibility to put their mind, soul, and mood at peace. When she smiles, it is as if she is using all her might just to see if it could get bigger. Her eyes are a russet brown like the skin of a winter apple, full of warmth and compassion. Her skin, a shade of brown, like the sand dunes of an Egyptian sunset...
