...The Rationale of Capitalism in Terms of Utility Maximization. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in purchasing power parity (PPP) in 2006 was estimated at US $1.134 trillion, and GDP per capita in PPP at US $10,600. The service sector is the largest component of GDP at 70.5%, followed by the industrial sector at 25.7% (2006). Agriculture represents only 3.9% of GDP (2006). Mexican labor force is estimated at 38 million of which 18% is occupied in agriculture, 24% in the industry sector and 58% in the service sector (200). Agriculture as a percentage of total GDP has been steadily declining, and now resembles that of developed nations in that it plays a smaller role in the economy. In 2006, agriculture accounted for 3.9% of GDP, down from 7% in 1990, and 25% in 1970. Given the historic structure of ejidos, it employs a considerably high percentage of the work force: 18% in 2003, mostly of which grows basic crops for subsistence, compared to 2–5% in developed nations in which production is highly mechanized. Crops: In spite of being a staple in the Mexican diet, Mexico's comparative advantage in agriculture is not in corn, but in horticulture, tropical fruits, and vegetables. Negotiators of NAFTA expected that through liberalization and mechanization of agriculture two-thirds of Mexican corn producers would naturally shift from corn production to horticultural and other labor-intensive crops such as fruits, nuts, vegetables, coffee and sugar cane. While horticultural trade has drastically...

...OBJECTIVES / RESEARCH METHODS: The main objective of this study was to use two dividend-paying stocks to see how much we should invest in them to create the most optimized portfolio between the two companies. For this study we decided to use two of the major leaders in their respective sectors, Wal-Mart in consumer staples, and Microsoft in technology. We began by collecting the monthly closing stock prices with dividends incorporated over the last 61 months for Wal-Mart, Microsoft, and the S&P 500 index. We also found the monthly yield on a 30-year T-bond to also use as a comparison for our two stocks. Once we collected all of these findings we were able to calculate various risk and return measures that we would use later when forming our portfolio. RESULTS: Since 2008 we found that there has been a gradual rise in the stock prices for both Microsoft and Wal-Mart. At the end of 2008, they were trading at $17.10 and $49.73 respectively. As of December 2013, they are now trading at $37.41 and $78.69, which are both significant rises since five years ago. After finding the closing monthly stock prices for Wal-Mart, Microsoft and the S&P 500, as well as the monthly yield for a 30-year T-bond, we took their average for each to find the expected return. Respectively for Microsoft and Wal-Mart we found the expected returns were 1.54% and 0.88%. For Microsoft this is well above the benchmark of the S&P’s expected return, which was 1.30%, while for Wal-Mart it is...

...Research Problem and Method Paper In the late 19th century an influx of immigrants to the United States—mostly Irish, Italians, Jews, and Poles—prompted a public campaign to socialize the norms, values, and languages of these immigrants through the use of the public school system (Brandon, Taliaferro Baszile & Berry, 2009; Schaefer, 2006). It was believed that such a cultural transition from the immigrant’s native tongue to the monolingual, English structure of the American public school system would aid in the academic, and later when they became adults, the economic development of the students. Notwithstanding, today there is a new inflow of immigrants from Latin America—Mexico in particular—Asia, and Puerto Rico who do not speak English as their primary language, and the predominant response of the U.S. public school system is the use of translators in the classroom (Parker, Rubalcava & Teruel, 2005). I propose a research study design to isolate the utility of monolingual—with translator—and bilingual education to the assimilation of information by students from grades 3-5 in the public school system. The remainder of this paper will examine the interplay between language and education, the relationship between race/ethnicity and socialization in contemporary American culture, and the research design proposed to investigate the aforementioned interactions. Language and Education For those immigrants coming to America that do not speak English, the overwhelmingly...

...Kylie Murphy C.C.C. Annotated Bibliography “Five myths about gun control” By Robert J. Spitzer, December 21, 2012 1. I like this article because it states specific facts about gun control and not just opinions. It talks about all the myths about gun control, one myth is that gun control is a losing battle for Democrats. But, that is false because many democrats have voiced their opinion on the topic. Another myth is that guns are deadliest as murder weapons which has been also proven false because statistics show that gun suicide is more common than gun homocide. Another myth is that American schools have become shooting galleries. Horrible incidents like Sandy Hook and Columbine have happened but schools are still a safe place. Schools are starting to take a lot of precautions like lock down drills, metal detectors, and the presense of a resource officer. “…the odds of a child dying from a violent attack at school are about one in a million.”which may be very comforting to you but unfortunetely not to the families in connecticut and elsewhere. Another myth Robert talks about in this article is that gun regulations are incompatible with America’s gun heritage, but today four states have completely elimintated permits for handgun ownership and carrying. The last myth that Robert talks about is that the Second Amendment was intended to protect the right of Americans to raise up against a tyrannical government. If that was true it would defeat the whole purpose of the Bill...

...Weekly Report November 7-8, 2015 My first week at Max’s Restaurant is exciting because I’m assigned at the bar area and I’ll be spending my entire training here. This area is where desserts and beverages are prepared and served. My trainer let me familiarize in the area and demonstrate the different SOP in preparing Max’s products inside the bar area. I was worried back then that I can’t able to perform well in the station but good thing my trainer help me out and teach me everything so that in the future I can handle every task that they will be given to me. Despite of the hardship that I encountered, I must say that my first week is very challenging. Weekly Report November 9-15, 2015 In my second week, finally I’m familiar with the operating procedures at the bar station. I can dispensed beverages on my own and I always make sure that the area is clean. In some other things in the bar like making desserts they let me observe first and after that they let me do it on my own. I’m happy that on the entire week I learned how to prepare different shakes and desserts like buko pandan, one of the best seller of Max’s. ...Meow Media knowingly produced a violent video game that they knew children had access to. These games can hypnotize a child into thinking that it’s fun to shoot people. Hours and hours of playing these types of games can cause something in the brain to make a child think these types of things are ok. A 14 yr old is not mature enough to stop and think hey this is wrong and I shouldn’t do this. They only see what is happening in the video game and want to be just like the game. The company has a moral obligation to warn people that these types of games could cause violent behavior if played in excess. However a lot of the blame should be placed on the parents as well. They should have monitored how often their child played those games. The company has no control over how often children play video games and they can argue that based on that alone they cannot be held responsible. If every producer of violent video games were held responsible for the actions of the people that play them they would never make any money. Lawsuits would have them so tied up that they would probably lose more than they make. Also this leaves the door open for anyone that commits a crime to be able to blame it on the video games they play. Nobody would be held responsible for their actions and some people may try to use this as a crutch....

...Ozark Mutts & Meows Marketing Plan Ozark Mutts & Meows Marketing Plan 1.0 Executive Summary Ozark Mutts & Meow is a start-up company entering a new market of mobile veterinary services and in-home pet sitting services. The pet service industry in 2011 spent $50.96 billion (APPA). In 2012, APPA estimates pet service spending to increase to $52.87 billion. Mobile veterinary services and in-home pet services will change the way pet owners will receive services for their pets. Pets will be allowed to remain in the comfort of their own environment (home or property) which in turn creates less stress on the pet. Pet owners will benefit from these services because they will not need to travel to a stationary location in order to receive veterinary services or pet sitting services. There were 72.9 million homes in the United States with pet in 2011 (APPA). Ozark Mutts & Meow will be creating a unique service to the market with minimal competition from competitors in other markets. The company will achieve fast market penetration through use of online and offline advertisement, building of customer loyalty and brand awareness, and outstanding customer service. 2.0 Section Analysis Ozark Mutts & Meow is entering its initial year of operation.
