...Faust: The First Part of the Tragedy Summary The next day Faust is alone in his study again. Mephistopheles enters, dressed as a nobleman. He tries to tempt Faust by offering him a life of limitless wealth and pleasure, but Faust sadly declines the offer, saying that the world's pleasures cannot end his doubts or satisfy his needs. Mephistopheles taunts Faust for his failure to commit suicide on Easter Eve and drives him to voice a rejection of the value of life and the traditional Christian virtues. The devil urges Faust to begin a new life with his assistance, and to exist no longer as an ordinary human being. If Faust agrees to become his servant after death (i.e. to sell his soul), Mephisto will be his during life and will guarantee to provide all that Faust desires. Faust accepts this offer with some hesitation, for he doubts Mephisto's ability to fulfill his end of the bargain, but makes a significant change in the wording of the pact. Faust promises that if any moment, however brief, is so charged with pleasure for him that he says, "Linger a while! Thou art so fair!" that will be the day of his death and he will serve the devil forever after. Analysis Mephisto's costume in this scene is a reminder to Faust of the narrow limitations on the world in which he has been living until now. Faust's change in wording recalls the divine law that action is the ruling force of the universe, and raises the story of this Faust to a higher philosophical level than that of the...

...found it impossible to look away. Sorrowful eyes lifted, rather surprised by the look in the younger's gaze. The earth King seemed to be struggling to find words and Mephisto was scared of what they would be. Tears filled the younger's eyes and it made his gut twist with confusion, frustration, and fear. It made him sick to his stomach. He bit his lips as Amaimon spoke, further confirming his monstrousness. 'I...don't think you're a monster...' The time King blinked, confused, surprises. No one had ever told him such a thing, ever told him he wasn't some horrid beast."I'm scared of change....makes everything else...

...children, he just refused to recognize them. A silence seemed to settle over them now and even though it did feel awkward that odd hope continued to grow. It warmed him, but he was terrified that it would be ripped away from him. Amaimon broke the silence and he clung desperately to that hope, scared to look at him just in case. Yet, his words only made that hope stronger. Mephisto gasped, those tears only filling his eyes faster "...I've always felt something around you...but..father convinced me it was nothing..." He shook his head, tears spilling over his cheeks "and now I've ruined everything...I went too far...I hurt you so deeply. I wish I could have seen what these feelings were....before I went and messed everything up." Pressed so close together as they were was intoxicating and it was something he never wanted to end, especially as Amaimon's tongue slipped into his mouth, brushing against his own. He groaned lowly, trying to taste all of his brother, hoping to God that this never stopped as their tongues tangled and danced. But it did stop, unfortunately, and it was only so very reluctantly that Mephisto pulled away to catch his breath. He panted slightly, having ignored his lungs screams for air for too long in order to drown so completely in his brother's soft lips. He still held Amaimon close, not letting him go even an inch. He smiled, almost in a trance like manner, a flush staining his cheeks "...well..that was...different..." He nodded in agreement, people like...

...Breathing Shoes and Complementarities: How Geox has rejuvenated the footwear industry Arnaldo Camuffo, Andrea Furlan, Pietro Romano, and Andrea Vinelli MIT-IPC-05-005 June 2005 Breathing Shoes and Complementarities: How Geox has Rejuvenated the Footwear Industry Arnaldo Camuffo, Andrea Furlan, Pietro Romano and Andrea Vinelli MIT IPC Working Paper IPC-05-005 June 2005 We apply the related notions of complementarities and performance landscapes to study strategic positioning in the footwear industry. We use this theoretical framework to analyze Geox, an Italian footwear manufacturer that, in less than a decade, has grown to be one of the world largest brown shoe manufacturers, outperforming the industry in terms of market and financial results. We describe Geox’s choices within four stages along its value chain: product design, marketing and communication, production and supply chain, distribution and retail. We show that, though grounded on product innovation (the Geox breathes® patented system which allows ventilation in waterproof rubber sole shoes), Geox’s competitive advantage has not grown out of operational excellence in single activities in the business, but, rather, derives from a unique and consistent configuration of complementary activities. Such configuration represents an innovative strategic position and corresponds to a high performance peak in the footwear industry performance landscape. The case study provides anecdotal evidence in support of complementarity-based...

Occasionally, one encounters persons calling themselves “theoretical magicians” and thus meaning that they subscribe to the magical paradigms without practising magic. But, theoretical magic is a contradiction. Magic is practice, action. Eugenio Trias, professor in philosophy, have pointed out that the word magic can be traced back to the same root as make (Swedish makt meaning ‘power’, German machen meaning ‘do’ or ‘make’). Magic is a creative, creating force through which the magician enables his visions through action. This is echoed in the Draconian magical formula: Visio, Vires, Actio: Vision, Force, Action. Practising magic, however, is an art that demands dedication, patience and discipline. A process of ennobling is demanded to develop the magical abilities, a path of initiation, an alchemy in which vision and action are united into a whole. The Magical Week on Gotland is the most important magical highlight of the year, where we unite magical work with inspiring social activities and there will be a unique opportunity to work magically in depth together with others in Dragon Rouge. The Magical Week 2007 we will focus on Visio Vires Actio – The Draconian Alchemy and we will ennoble our magical abilities during intensive magical operations. HDHM!
