The economic system of mercantilism impacted the colonists, slaves and the English in many different ways. Africans were packed tightly onto ships that would bring them to America to be sold as slaves (Document D.) The more slaves a merchant could fit on a boat the better because they made money for every slave they sold. From the boat to the family that bought them, slaves were treated like possessions. Those that were capable did hard labor. They produced raw material that England could manufacture then sell back to the colonies and other countries for a profit. Because of this, slaves were in high demand in the colonies (Document B.) They were needed in the colonies to produce raw material for England. They were producing much
