The character of john sheppard was first introduced to us in the season 1 premiere of stargate atlantis and has continued to be developed as a character from then on through all 5 seasons and the 8 legacy books and has often been defined as a character who is willing to make the sacrifice if necessary to save the lives of the atlantis expedition.
Teyla Emmagan like john was introduced to us later on in the same episode of atlantis as sheppard was and is a character most notable for her extreme ability to negotiate any deal you may want her to get even if she has little to offer while at the same time being a very skilled and capable warrior.
