These texts both describe different types of struggles a person faces when living in America with a different heritage."Mericans" by Sandra Cisneros was from the point of view of a little girl growing up in America as someone with a Mexican heritage. "In Response to Executive Order 9066" by Dwight Okita was also from the point of a little girl, but this one has a Japanese heritage. Both are different experiences, but describe similar situations of growing up in America.
Despite being from different cultures, the texts are both very similar. First, both narrator's are growing up with a mixed culture. In Mericans, the little girl talks about how her and her brothers are waiting outside for their "awful grandmother" who is inside praying for her family with an old…show more content… Okita uses language that is more straight forward or metaphorical. He shows how the narrator feels and shows her interactions with her friend, Denise. His sentences are very short. The little girl assumes Denise to be a true friend, but then Denise blames her friend for always starting a war and then asks her why she keeps giving secrets out. The little girl was confused and at the end of the poem, she gives her tomato seeds to plant. This most likely shows how the little girl wishes to be reunited with Denise eventually. Cisneros uses Spanish between sentences to help characterize. Once again, the little girl is not aware of how America is influencing her culture.
Now, Cisneros and Okita have writing styles. Cisneros uses a short story to get the message across and Okita uses a poem format. Cisneros used lots of detail by how the characters are described as "awful grandmother", "Auntie Light-skin", and "Uncle Fat-face". This is very different from Okita because Okita uses a lot of symbolism and is more straight forward when it comes to characterizing. Okita uses language easy to understand whilst Cisneros uses more roundabout way of
