As a result like many other countries America has and continues to implement more foreign policy for the overall well being of the American people. Even at its closest neighboring borders within Mexico lie huge drug war problems both nations are attempting to resolve through the use of a variety of different foreign policy including military intervention, sharing of information, and stricter border control. Yet it would seem that all of which have been ineffective in solving the problem and may have even worsened it. has supported Mexico in the endeavor to get ahold of the notorious drug Cartel in the interest of protecting America's National Security. The U.S. has since as far back as for about four decades, when the war on drugs began, really began to work with Mexico to stop the flow of drugs and put a halt to the cartel on a whole. Military intervention from the U.S. proves to be costly purely based on the amount of lives spent in the effort. America helps fund the Mexican government aswell with a variety of advanced, high tech military weapons and monetary support. This has costed the nation's millions and have shown little to nothing for it. Yet, consequently thousands of civilians have died and in the last year alone 100,000 people have been killed in violence spurred by some drug related brutality(http://www.cnn.com/2015/06/28/opinions/winslow-drug-war-folly/). With all this great sacrifice nothing has changed drastically. The flow of drugs into the United States still remains steady and the large drug gangs continue to spread violence and death. It’s unbelievable clear how terrible this form a foreign policy is because it’s only hurting America as well as others, but it fails to resolves the pressing issue of the drug war in …show more content…
Yet it would seem evidence proves that continuing to develop harsher borders may not be the wisest foreign policy to be used to handle the tricky situation. In fact it could potentially be a tragic move for the United States due to the immense price the nation will have to pay to build President Trumps desired wall. The actual cost to produce a gigantic concrete wall as well as hiring around 5,000 new employees to defend the border could cost as much as about 25 billion(http://money.cnn.com/2017/01/25/news/economy/trump-mexico-border-wall-cost/). That is a gargantuan amount of money the American people would have to pay and after Mexico's president stood firm on not paying for this project it doesn't appear like the money will be coming from anywhere else. In the past under Obama and many other presidents in the past have allocated more money and a greater budget to border patrol, but it doesn't stop the flow of drugs from entering the nation. The fact is hard hitting drugs like heroin or coke still manage to be passed through the already heavy border patrol. It doesn’t seem to make sense to put so much effort and resources into Trumps dream of the massive border wall when similar foreign

Mexican Drug War

...Most people assume the drug war in Mexico should not be called a war at all, but through the first 11 months of 2008 the Mexican war has “about 1,000 more [deaths] than the number of U.S. military personnel [killed] in Iraq” (“Is Mexico’s” 3) in that same time period. You have to wonder why more isn’t done for this reoccurring violence and illegal activity. The Mexican drug war masked by powerful gang leaders called cartels and hidden by intimidated citizens will continue for many years unless both the United States and Mexico join together further more to stop this ongoing problem that has cost thousands of lives. The cartels using various forms of illegal money making techniques to attain their powerful state has received minimal defiance until recently by U.S. and Mexican governments. The cartels use highly illegal techniques to obtain power. These techniques originated because of the chance at 8-23 billion dollars estimated for anyone to obtain (“Is Mexico’s” 4). Topping the list to acquire money are illegal drugs which are the most “widely recognized source of criminal power in Mexico” stealing cars, kidnapping, smuggling Mexicans into United States, and protection rackets also increase their profit (Walters 2). This profit is made from drugs shipped to the U.S., and sold there because of the high demand. At the peak of these drugs is marijuana which it is the “single largest source of drug profits for cartels”. They can easily ship their marijuana to marijuana legal...

...Mexico’s drug war is a non-stop battle for the citizens of Mexico, the traffickers and suppliers of the drugs for many years. Many rival cartel gangs are in constant competition for different regions of Mexico, which escalates the violence and triumph to an even higher level. The government’s goal behind the drug war has always been to put a stop to any drug related violence that carried over from the war for years, more specifically since 2006 when the Mexican military intervention was started. US's Role In The Mexican Drug War

...demonstration of bloodshed and violence of the “Mexican Drug War” that never ceased to appall and bewilder the public-- in and outside Mexico-- has intensified in the beginning of 2006. The attribution of this intensity to the newly deployed military is neither gullible nor unfactual. “2010 was the year with the most violent deaths in the country,” acknowledged Felipe Calderón-- who augmented and expanded the military’s role in the war against drugs. Nevertheless, prior to Calderón’s administration, demands-- especially in the international level, and in particular from the U.S.-- have been strongly and repeatedly made to urge Mexico involve its military prowess and resources(Militarization of). As David R.Mares contends, the U.S. promotion-- incrementally for decades since the 1980s-- of the fallacy that the military has a unique ability for fighting the drug production and trafficking has proven futile and costly(David Maries). Due to the apparent ineffectiveness of the military in ameliorating the drug dilemma in Mexico, a multitude of military factions have expressed dissatisfaction.“I think there is frustration on the part of Mexican military personnel about being engaged in eternal conflict,” said Mexican Defense Minister Salvador Cienfuegos....

A Flag In Disguise: The Mexican Drug War

...A Flag in Disguise It is estimated that around 60,000 people have deceased in the Mexican drug war since 2006-2012(CNN). This is due largely to the steady flow of illicit narcotics in to the United States, the cache of weapons and ammunition that the United States is supplying Mexico, as well as the corruption on both sides of the border. The Mexican Drug War initially began about 2006 during the Felipe Calderon administration, with a short, but gruesome history to include death, drugs, weapons, trafficking and corruption. Police corruption often categorized as any form of misconduct, inappropriate or illegal action resulting in goods or favors exchanged. The amount of money that is involved in drug trade embellishes the corruption making...

...The Mexican Drug War: Is It Their War or Ours? A common news headline in any newspaper or on any news channel these days mentions the “Mexican drug war”. It has become common along the U. S./Mexico border to hear people talking about it at schools, work places and in their own neighborhoods - coworkers, classmates and neighbors whom are involved in some way or know someone that is. Violence is seen and heard of on the U.S. side of the border quite frequently, which raises the questions, is it their war or ours? This war may have started on Mexican soil; however, it is, most definitely, the United States’ war as well. How did this all begin? What does the U.S. have to do with it? “For years, Mexico’s domestic supply of psychoactive...

...Simon Waltzer Intro to Speech Communication 11/28/2010 Mexican Drug Wars In the early part of 2003 I went to the state of Michoacán in Mexico to visit my grandparents, because it had been since 1994 since I was last there. It was an incredible experience for me to once again see my family who many of them I’ve never met before. Never did I know that this might have been the last time that I would go visit them, no not because I didn’t want to but because of the circumstances surrounding the area of where my parents lived in. The reality was that Mexican Drug Cartel who has existed since the 1980s had become stronger and dangerous since newly elected Mexican President Felipe Calderon was in assumed office in December of 2006. Calderon hailing from that very state of Michoacán ordered 6,500 federal troops to the state of Michoacán to end the drug violence there. Ever since then, the drug violence between drug cartels and the Mexican Government has escalated to the highest extent. Although drug violence has existed long before the war with cartels and the government began, it was generally not as bad during the 1990s and early 2000s. This action is regarded as the first major operation against organized crime, and is generally viewed as the starting point of the war between the government and the drug cartels. As time progressed, Calderón continued to escalate his anti-drug campaign, in which there are now about 45,000 troops involved in addition of state and federal police...

Drug Trafficking

...Drug trafficking is getting more serious everyday that if we do not make an attempt to stop or slow it down, deadly consequences may occur. There have been so many articles on this issue and the rate of deaths of people using drugs is increasing rapidly. Everything has a start and so do drugs. The drugs come from traffickers who don’t care about the result of people using it; they only care about how much money they gain from it. Drugs destroy you from your health to your job, business, and worse, your relationships. According to Fitzgerald, by 1925 there were at least 30,000 to 100,000 of illegal premises in New York alone (Fitzgerald). This proves that the spreading speed of drug trafficking is increasing fast, and making more people suffer from the effect that is creates.  The dealing of illegal drugs has existed for a very long time in Canada. People have been smuggling drugs in many different ways and there have been many popular drug busts that occurred as a result. Some of the most common illegal drugs being dealt are marijuana, cocaine, opium, and etc. Some of these drugs damage your body while others act as medicine and help people to overcome certain types of illnesses and diseases. The big debate these days is whether to legalize some of these illegal drugs, which provide benefits to people. Also, since many people are using them today this causes problems as these people are arrested and thrown in jail causing them to be overcrowded. In addition to that, a drug such...

Drug War

...The Drug War: Will It Ever Stop? INTRODUCTION The United States and Mexico share a border that stretches 2,000 miles. The border is a product of the clash of the British and Spanish Empires. It is a place of lawlessness and violence. Drug cartels have used the border to smuggle illegal drugs into the United States for years. The United States market for drugs is a multibillion dollar a year industry. 90% of the illegal drugs that are smuggled into America come through our southern borders. As a nation we consume over 50% of the worlds illegal drugs, which exemplify the problem that America has with drug consumption. The demand for illegal drugs in the US allows drug cartels in Mexico to make billions of dollars by smuggling Marijuana, and Methamphetamines through the US/Mexican Border. Efforts to stop the flow of illegal drugs into the US have been unsuccessful. Drug Cartels use various methods in the transportation of their merchandise. Such methods include using underground tunnels, semi trucks, automobiles, and humans to transport these illegal drugs. Only 3 to 8 percent of the drugs that are smuggled from Latin America into the United States is confiscated, which is a very discouraging number. Our border patrol and DEA need to do a better job securing our borders and preventing the flow of such harmful drugs into America. There are a reported 7 cartels that operate in Mexico; the biggest players in the drug trade between Mexico and the US are the Tijuana, Juarez, Sinaloa...
