Personality is defined as the sum total of beliefs, behaviors, attitudes and values that distinguishes an individual. Each of us has unique personalities which distinguish us from the others.
The personality of an individual is mix of both inherited factors, learning and environmental factors but heredity plays a bigger role in determining those traits which affect our personality and our perception and how people perceive things and learn them.
Personality is clearly an important concept for understanding, predicting and changing behavior in organizational settings. Organization should consider the applicants' personality in selection process to ensure that it matches the work requirements which will result in enhancing the job performance. Employees will feel more comfortable while doing tasks that match their personality traits, ability and skills. Moreover, employee will feel more satisfy about their job as a result from self achievement. On the other hand, if the organization try to fit the job with the person, it may result in low job performance and employee may not possess the ability to accomplish the work with the expected manner.
Providing training aimed on changing the employee behavior may not result in the expected outcome, because employees may not be ready for changing their style as they are already determined inheritably.
To conclude, companies should try to match the new applicant personality with the work. Also, they should give the current employee the chance to transfer to a job that match their personality and ability to achieve high job performance and enhance overall job
