Spectrum Crisis Assignment

The wireless data transmission industry is running out of airwaves necessary to provide service to its customers. The crisis exists because of dramatic demand for wireless services, which outpaced improvements in technological efficiency. With the population growing in the United States, more people are utilizing wireless communications, which means prices go up and quality goes down. Mobile consumers don’t care about frequencies, bandwidth, or spectrum. They want faster service. One way to help avoid the spectrum crisis is to better improve the frequencies for all the wireless services. Since all the wireless carriers need to send data all over the world or maybe just few feet apart, many places like universities, restaurants, stadiums have set up short range Wi-Fi receivers that operate on unlicensed portions of the radio spectrum. These short range receivers will help offset people who have cell phones or any other digital device from using the precious spectrum. Data will be sent through them instead of through the long range cell phone frequencies. A second alternative is to actually use all of the wireless frequencies available or to share them since almost every person in the world likes to use the internet on whatever gadget they have available to them. Instead of limiting an amount of users to a single bandwidth, the wireless capacity could be widened and therefore have much more users on a single bandwidth. For example, if frequencies that are reserved for radio and television broadcasts that are not being used at a certain time, these frequencies could be used for cell phone users and their carriers. Although they will be using the spectrum, it is part of the spectrum that was reserved and not being used and now it could be used to its full potential if needed to. Another example is the frequencies or

...DEBI ADAMS AMERICAN INTERCONTINENTAL UNIVERSITY MGMT 415- GLOBAL OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT UNIT 1 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT PROFESSOR- DAVID TIBBETTS AUGUST 26, 2012 ABSTRACT Conducting business in a foreign country is not a simple two-step process. There are many avenues to consider and to plan. Situations that may arise that must be addressed and worked out for the best of both parties. Trust in a company whether it is organic or borrowed is the foundation stone of the process. Moreover, the ending process or point to make might be the customer satisfaction of the product or service that is performed. A happy customer whether large or small will be a repeat customer and that is the basis of all companies. To move on to another sale. Moving into a global market can be stressful for the company making the move but other factors that should weigh in on the equation. The country that your company is moving into must be considered, what are the customs and regulations that must be followed. Consumption supply is the supply of the service needed to run your business in their country. Moreover, the repair of any equipment used in that country for your business, would you use a local repair company or will you supply your own maintenance to all equipment? If you are going to use a local company, a service contract needs to be composed and agreed upon by both PPQ and the service company. The second to consider is commercial presence,...

...Final Project Peter S. McCarthy psm62477@yahoo.com MGMT 591 – Organizational Behavior Dr. Anthony Campos October 15, 2013 Organization Overview The organization that I have chosen for my final project is Envelopes.com. Envelopes.com is an online retailer is an envelope and printing business that prides itself on having the largest selection of in-stock items in a large variety of colors, sizes, and styles. The combination of a large selection, the ability to quickly print and ship, and superior customer service, puts Envelopes.com at the forefront of internet retailers. While the main focus is on envelopes and custom print jobs, Envelopes.com also carries a variety of colors, sizes and styles of paper, cardstock, and mailing supplies. The company is about forty two years old and has had their fair share of ups and downs. I am currently the acting operations manager within this organization. The company is valued at about $20 million, is located in Amityville, NY, and has been growing at about 10% per year in the last three years. As the current operational manager I have noticed some items that need to be addressed on their way to becoming a high performance organization. While this organization is doing well financially, there are definitely some areas that need to be improved on their way to becoming a high performance organization. Some of the issues I have noticed in the last few months as the operations manager are as follows. While I am aware that each...

DOI: 10.1002/smj.249 DO FORMAL CONTRACTS AND RELATIONAL GOVERNANCE FUNCTION AS SUBSTITUTES OR COMPLEMENTS? LAURA POPPO1 * and TODD ZENGER2 1 2 Pamplin College of Business, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia, U.S.A. John M. Olin School of Business, Washington University, St Louis, Missouri, U.S.A. Relational exchange arrangements supported by trust are commonly viewed as substitutes for complex contracts in interorganizational exchanges. Many argue that formal contracts actually undermine trust and thereby encourage the opportunistic behavior they are designed to discourage. In this paper, we develop and test an alternative perspective: that formal contracts and relational governance function as complements. Using data from a sample of information service exchanges, we find empirical support for this proposition of complementarity. Managers appear to couple their increasingly customized contracts with high levels of relational governance (and vice versa). Moreover, this interdependence underlies their ability to generate improvements in exchange performance. Our results concerning the determinants of these governance choices show their distinct origins, which further augments their complementarity in practice. Copyright  2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ 85287-4706, United States a r t i c l e i n f o a b s t r a c t Our study examines the state of qualitative case studies in operations management. Five main operations management journals are included for their impact on the field. They are in alphabetical order: Decision Sciences, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, Journal of Operations Management, Management Science, and Production and Operations Management. The qualitative case studies chosen were published between 1992 and 2007. With an increasing trend toward using more qualitative case studies, there have been meaningful and significant contributions to the field of operations management, especially in the area of theory building. However, in many of the qualitative case studies we reviewed, sufficient details in research design, data collection, and data analysis were missing. For instance, there are studies that do not offer sampling logic or a description of the analysis through which research outcomes are drawn. Further, research protocols for doing...
