2. Identify the team formation strategy that is most suitable for Riordan Manufacturing, and provide the rationale for the decision. Your response should be at least 100 words.
Capability and personality of team members is the best strategy for forming teams because managers can pick people that are best fit for the position he or she works in and can find team motivated players who are also aware of each person’s capabilities. This will help production run properly and enhance the level of communication because people will know who to go to for questions on specific areas. Also high performing individuals can be put in teams that deal with complex projects while limited individuals can work in areas that are comfortable in and can still perform at a high level.
3. What potential barriers may arise during team formation? How will you address these barriers? Your response should be at least 100 words.
Potential barriers can include team members giving another insufficient exchanges of information, noise or background distractions when holding meetings with new teams, tone of voice used by manager or the use of jargon that is not recognized properly. Also the formation of this type of team is focused on ability not necessarily social ability working with people. The manager might pick someone who is really smart in an area but lack team work mentality which can slow production. Conflicting schedules with management and the new team members not being able to come together at same time because of outside circumstances. Also manager must communicate clearly what is expected of each person and give the team enough information to function with. If only a small amount of information is given from manager to employee, conflict can arise because of misunderstandings and confusion.
4. What measures will be put in place to evaluate if the team is operating successfully? Your response should be at least 100 words.
Monitoring of employees is essential in evaluating and managers must be consistent in this area but also positive and upbeat at the same time to avoid frustration and burnout of employees. Another aspect to consider is using motivating tactics like vocal praise of rewards to keep production running smooth and creating an environment employee like working in. Management must find each member strengths and weaknesses so that areas of improvement are clear and areas of that need improvement can be addressed constructively. Lastly to measure performance the manager must be sure to set goals everyone can reach and understand how to get to each goal individually and as a team.
