For my biography, I chose to learn more about Michael Jordan. He has been a huge inspiration to the basketball side of my life. Jordan’s quotes are incredibly inspirational and motivational. They keep me from giving up. He has a very interesting life but I decided to learn about his early life, NBA career, and his return to the court. Jordan was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York but later moved to North Carolina. While growing up in Wilmington, North Carolina, he developed a competitive edge at an early age. His father taught him to work hard and not be tempted by street life while his mother taught him how to sew, clean, and do laundry. According to noteablebiographies.com, Jordan loved sports but failed to make the high school basketball team his sophomore year. After high school, he accepted a basketball scholarship and played under the head coach Dean Smith. Jordan enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1981 and soon became an important member of the school’s basketball team according to biography.com. Drafted by the Chicago Bulls, he soon provided himself on the court with an average of 28.2 points per game. That season, he received the NBA Rookie of the Year and was selected for the All-Star Game. His second season was marred by injury, but he was breaking new ground in the 1986-1997 season. He became the first player since Wilt Chamberlain to score more than 3,000 points in a single season. The following season, he received his first MVP Award, and received if four more times in 1991, 1992, 1996, and 1998. The Bulls won their first championship in 1991 by defeating the Los Angeles Lakers, which lead to multiple endorsement deals for Jordan such as Nike.
