According to Simeon in the book “The Servant” written by James Hunter, you must first choose to apply the principles of servant leadership to be effective. Jesus is the greatest leader to ever serve. He first served others to gain their trust, respect, loyalty and an opportunity to influence them. (Hunter, J. 1998)
Serving others is about providing or fulfilling a basic human need. It’s also another way of showing true love in the sense of agape love. Agape love is an unconditional love for another, not be confused with romantic love or a strong emotional feeling. It is an opportunity to show kindness without expecting anything in return. (Hunter, J. 1998)
Michelle’s unconditional love for others is displayed through her acts of kindness and service. She purposefully spends time with kids at their schools, or by inviting them to the White House to plant vegetables in the garden on the south lawn. Obesity in the U.S.

...Michael Tjuatjadarma ESL 5/ Mrs. Goodwin Research Paper/ Essay #3 03/30/2012 Obesity in the U.S.A. Thirty years ago, most of the people in United States lived healthy and almost everyone managed to keep their ideal weight. Children got their selves to school on foot, played and ran around during break time, participated in gym classes, and did after school activities like playing sports or joining clubs. Their parents cooked homemade meals for them with substantial portions of fruits and vegetables. These meals did not contain artificially hydrogenated oils, or any other of the processed chemicals you find in the food today. They rarely ate fast food or snacked between meals. Today, kids have a very dissimilar lifestyle experience. Their parents drop them off at school by car. Gym classes, after school sports, and clubs have been significantly cut. After school, they are playing video games, surfing the Internet, and watching television. Parents do not have time to cook, so they often buy fast food. Kids are snacking around three times a day, which could add hundreds, even thousands of calories to their diet. The portions of the meals are two to five times bigger as compared to thirty years ago. As far as beverages go, they are now becoming more and more sweetened. According to Michelle Obama’s website http:// www.letsmove.gov/, studies show that, “we are eating 31 percent more calories than compared to thirty years ago; including 56 percent more fats and oils, and 14...

Obesity

...Childhood obesity is a wide spread epidemic that will endanger our future generations. Obesity increases the risk of health problems resulting from excess body fat. Recently, first Lady Michelle Obama started her Let's Move program, which includes four goals: providing parents with information and support they need to help their children eat properly, ensuring that schools offer healthier food, helping children get regular physical activity, and ensuring that healthy food is available. Michelle Obama announced, “The physical and emotional health of an entire generation and the economic health and security of our nation is at stake” (M. Obama, 2010). The following paper will answer the question of why children become obese and offers possible solutions to prevent obesity. Without proper moderation and knowledge of nutritional values the current generation and future generations will continue to have their lives at risk. Exercise is also a key factor in attaining the correct body weight for the specific age and height of the child. It is important to prevent childhood obesity because it can cause many health problems for our children now and as they get older. Changing the following will decrease or maintain a healthy body weight: increase in activity, better nutrition, exercise and habits. Past generations were limited in technology, leading to youth spending more time physically playing outside. Today with so many technological options children no longer need to go outside...

Research Topics with Explanation”:

...“Research Topics with Explanation”: Week 2 Assignment 1 Submission Professor English 215 January 17, 2014 Research Topics with Explanation Should changes be made to the regulations for foods that are served in public schools? I choose this as topic one because it made me recall that First Lady Michelle Obama issued a challenge to Get Fit and to put healthier food choices on school menus. The topic makes me curious to know if her challenge was met. The school board, School Nutrition program and parents of school age children are my target audience. A preliminary thesis statement is: Changes must be made to regulate foods that are served in public schools to closer match the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Dietary Food Pyramid Guide. Two credible sources that I would expect to use are the articles “School Food Environments and Policies in US Public Schools” and “Schools change menus for healthier lunches”. Should minors who commit violent crimes be tried as adults? I choose this as topic two because lately crimes of this nature are all over the media. I have never thought about this question. Therefore, I have no idea what position I would decide to defend. I am aware that one should have a strong opinion, thereby being able to make a strong agreement when writing a persuasive paper. However, although perhaps I currently lean towards not agreeing, I am intrigued to learn what my final position would be after conducting thorough research. The general...

Obama's Campaign

...In the 21th century, social media has become the new movement for presidential elections just as radio and television revolutionized the process in previous elections. The 2008 US election was no exception to the movement, going down in history as the social media election. The Obama campaign was a revolution dedicated to the utilization of social media to connect directly to the American public; their means of communication trigged a change that forever transformed the face of political campaigning. With the ability to communicate with supporters, they fully understood the potency of using social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. Through social media, they were able to mobilize and encourage supporters’ contribution in the campaign trial, with sites such as meetup.com. Social media also played a part in their fundraising, strategically using social networking sites, the main campaign website MyBarackObama.com, e-mails, text messages, etc. to receive donations. Last but not least, they were able to fully take advantage of the traffic flow to sites such as YouTube and Google to advertise their campaign. Facebook, known as one of the most dominate social networking sites of today’s society with nearly 600 million users. Waiting to Exhale

...us look like we had some sense! Look how analytical they sounded!” But why on earth do I have to feel like that in this marvelous, post racial society? After reading, I noticed that despite the year tacked on to the assigned readings, the content barely changed. From Dubois (1903) to Wingfield and Feagin (2012), we are still acknowledging the same woes that a society assigns particular groups of people. We are still attempting to come up with dire solutions in hopes that everyone will begin to “get along” with one another. But most of all, because of this…People of color are still waiting to exhale. In this essay, there will be two parts: Firstly, a general analysis of the assigned literature for this week. In this compartment of my paper, I will analyze extracted points from the readings thematically as it directly relates to certain points in the “Critical Race: An Introduction” excerpt. Here, I will also be giving a respectful critique of Dubois’ postulations in the “Souls of Black Folk.” Secondly I will critique Allport’s (1954) contact hypothesis that was discussed in Hewstone and Swart (2011). Introduction of Critical Race Theory (CRT) Before I analyze the literature, I think it would be wise to give a brief definition and explanation of Critical Race Theory in general. Delgado and Stefancic (2006) offered a pretty understandable definition and illustration of CRT, highlighting key people, elements, and objectives...

Many are former employees of Monsanto. A former director of Monsanto made the statement Monsanto should not have to vouchsafe the safety of biotech food that is the job of the FDA. The FDA says that food manufactures should be responsible for what they produce. Ironically, the FDA is controlled largely by Monsanto, and Monsanto is regulated by the United States Government, with neither side willing to take ownership of the issue. The first Monsanto appointees in the FDA were placed under the first Bush administration. In each subsequent administration more appointees were taken from Monsanto. President Obama is responsible for the largest number of appointments with the greatest conflict of interests. Corruption in the FDA and USDA Corruption in government is nothing new, no matter what country, state, city or province. Governmental corruption has been a problem for every civilization...

...Black Feminism Michelle Smith African American History Winter Quarter 2010 Purdue University Instructor: Professor Wilkens Introduction When the Black Feminist movement was developed, it was a revolution for black women. It gave them power, liberation, and a voice to overcome the emasculating efforts of white male power (Harrold, Hine, and Hine, 2009). When I first began this research, I discovered that Black Feminism is too broad of a topic to elaborate on as a whole. This paper defines the term “Black Feminism. It will explore two published articles that report on the theory and practice of how black feminism is making waves and what role of education in the development of the Black Feminist Thought from 1860 to 1920. This paper will examine when the National Black Feminist Organization was founded and lastly, how two outstanding women who made an impact in the Black Feminist Movement. According to Encyclo (n.d.) online encyclopedia the definition of black feminism is “A strand of feminist thought which highlights the multiple disadvantages of gender, class and race that shape the experiences of nonwhite women. Black feminists reject the idea of a single unified gender oppression that is experienced evenly by all women, and argue that early feminist analysis reflected the specific concerns of white, middle-class women.” In other words, black feminist argue that the liberation of black women entails freedom for all people since it would require the end of...
