...MICROSOFT SURFACE: MULTI-TOUCH TECHNOLOGY A White Paper Prepared By: Allison Jeffers Gainey Jeffersa2@winthrop.edu November 2008 EDUC 651 What are multi-touch surfaces? Multi-touch surfaces allow for a device to recognize two or more simultaneous touches by more than one user. Some have the ability to recognize objects by distinguishing between the differences in pressure and temperature of what is placed on the surface. Depending on the size and applications installed in the surface, two or more people can be doing different or independent applications on the device. Multi-touch computing is the direct manipulation of virtual objects, pages, and images allowing you to swipe, pinch, grab, rotate, type, and command them eliminating the need for a keyboard and a mouse. Everything can be done with our finger tips. Microsoft Surface http://www.microsoft.com/surface/index.html Defined: Microsoft Surface is an interactive table top that can do everything a network computer can do plus more without using a keyboard or a mouse. There are four key features: direct interaction, multi-touch ability, multi-user ability, and object recognition. Direct interaction allows you to touch or grab digital information with your hands and use natural gestures to open, grasp, and command virtual objects, pages and images. The multi-touch feature enables the Surface to recognize many points of contact simultaneously so you can enlarge an image by touching the opposite corners and dragging them outwards...

...Downloads: 1171) microsoft surface.ppt (Size: 2.84 MB / Downloads: 1666) ABSTRACT Microsoft Surface, is a forthcoming Multi-touch product from Microsoft This is developed as a software and hardware combination technology. That allows a user, or multiple users, to manipulate digital content by the use of natural motions, hand gestures, or physical objects. It was announced on May 29, 2007 at D5 conference, and is expected to be released by commercial partners in spring 2008. Initial customers will be in the hospitality businesses, such as restaurants, hotels, retail, public entertainment venues and the military for tactical overviews. A projector underneath the surface projects an image onto its underside, while five cameras in the machine's housing record reflections of infrared light from human fingertips. The camera can also recognize objects placed on the surface if those objects have specially-designed "tags" applied to them. Users can interact with the machine by touching or dragging their fingertips and objects such as paintbrushes across the screen, or by placing and moving tagged objects. INTRODUCTION We are going to represent paper on Microsoft surface which is known as surface computing. Microsoft Surface is a forthcoming Multi-touch product from Microsoft which is developed as software and hardware combination technology. Minority Report meets the kitchen table in the new Surface from Microsoft. Claiming that surface computing is "as significant...

...Case Study – Microsoft Surface vs Apple iPad Since its first introduction in 2010, Apple iPad has been dominating the tablet market. It is safe to say that the Apple iPad paved the road for the modern tablets. Nearly every company tried to copy the iPad, except Microsoft. In fact, Microsoft tried really hard to differentiate itself completely from the usual tablets on the market and compete directly with the iPad. In 2012, the company created a tablet, which can run both in tablet mode and desktop mode, and named it “Surface RT” or simply “Surface”. The Surface came with multiple preloaded software and the ability to edit Microsoft Office files. Microsoft Surface was without a doubt unique and unprecedented and had all the bells and whistles. Thus, one may ask, Why is Microsoft struggling to make sales on its tablets despite their versatility, features and smart design? What are the primary mistakes Microsoft made that had led to the Surface suffering in the Tablet market? What branding mistakes led to this current predicament for Microsoft? There is a number of mistakes or poor decisions that could have led the Microsoft Surface sells to suffer in the market. First and foremost, Microsoft missed the mark on branding its tablets. The name “Surface” used to be associated to an interactive computer table with a big touchscreen. Only few people knew of the existence of that device. Thus, after the failure in the Surface table, Microsoft decided to reuse the name for its...

...Yvette Bostic Robley Welliver Lit 205/11 September 9, 2013 In order for one to understand Twyla’s characteristic of being slightly prejudice and the secret hate that she had toward her childhood friend has to do with the concepts and thoughts that Twyla’s mother in stored in her as a child about other people who were not like her and a lot of those concept where wrong. Twyla’s roommate Roberta did not meet any of the negative things Twyla’s mother had told her about Africa American people. Twyla thought she deserved better and was supposed to have better because she was white. She secretly had had toward Roberta because she ended up with the life Twyla was supposed to have, but because of the bond they had growing up would somehow keep them connected every time they ran into each other in passing. In the beginning of the story Twyla had a negative attitude toward African American people. Twyla’s mother had warned her as a little girl that “they never washed their hair and they smelled funny” (Morrison, Toni) this gives you an indication that Twyla was white and was raised by a prejudice white mother whom which at times she seemed to be ashamed of. The first time Twyla and Roberta was introduced Twyla seemed to be uncomfortable. She told Bozo “my mother won’t like you putting me in here” (Morrison, Toni) but as time went on it did not seem to bother Twyla much, Twyla and Roberta became best friends in the orphan home, they were always together and the played together...

...also adds a layer of protection against the elements. Here's why a sealcoat is a good investment for your parking lot no matter how large or small it is. Sealcoating Covers Imperfections In Color Sealcoating is a thin layer much like paint. It's dark, so it makes the surface of your parking lot dark again, just like when it was new. The coating also covers oil and dirt stains so the surface of your lot has a uniform color again. The only thing sealcoating doesn't cover up is damage such as cracks and potholes. Damage will show right through a sealcoat so the cracks and holes must be repaired before sealcoating is applied. Sealcoating isn't done to repair asphalt, it's done to improve its appearance and add a protective coating....

...Mark Allen MNGT. 4600 Mrs. Newman November 12, 2014 Final Report (1st Draft) I am doing my community service with Project Uplift, an organization affiliated with the university, which I have been involved with for almost 3 years now. Project Uplift is a volunteer/mentor program, which helps children around Lee County develop constructive, happy lives. I joined this organization in hopes of helping to make a child’s life better by spending a few hours per week with them. My friend, Sammy, and I began Project Uplift together by choosing a child based on information given to us by the organization. I have gotten the opportunity to spend many hours with Rell throughout our time together. I hope he gets as much out of our meetings as I do. My goal with Rell is to have an impact on him in a positive way so that he makes good decisions in life based on what he has learned through the years with Sammy and I. My experience with Project Uplift thus far has been magnificent and I believe it has made me a better person along the way. Seeing Rell grow up throughout the time spent with him is probably my favorite part of the whole experience. Rell was in fifth grade when we first met him two and a half years ago. It was difficult to even get a word out of him in the first couple of months we met, but now he is bouncing off of the walls when we pick him up. We have grown very close throughout the past couple of years and have made great progress from where we started. ...

...Examining young children’s 1 The case study in this article presented the process of conceptual change in six-year olds. The process was described from two different view points: how the children’s conceptions change during the instructional process and how the social discussion during the experimental exploration can be seen in terms of the cognitive changes in children. Young children’s conceptual change has not been as widely studied as that in older students. The researcher in this case study suggested that conceptual changes as a party of the learning process should be viewed as a life long process, which begins before children enter school. Six-year-old children undergo floating and sinking during their conceptual change process. This article attempted to describe this process and how social discourse during the process of knowledge construction is linked to the change in children’s concepts. Conceptual change had generally been examined only through cognitive functions as a general process without consideration of the context before this case study. The children that were selected for this study were pre-schoolers age six. They all hailed from the city of Joensuu, Finland and were from the kindergarten involved with the ESKO research project. The groups wanted to participate in the study, but the researchers taught the topic after the teachers disagreed. The children came from two different groups in the ...
