...Formatting Issues Pamela Newsome IT/206 August 26, 2011 Patricia Byerly Week One Checkpoint: Formatting Issues Some business uses for inserting a canvas within a Microsoft Word document are by being able to create a canvas from several options that are available on what type of content can be inserted. Some examples are being able to create various drawings that can be moved individually, or together, insert files rather than having to paste them on a document. Another use for inserting a canvas is for annotating a picture with callouts. A strategy that I feel may help users overcome formatting issues is to first let them know that it is better to first plan ahead by selecting the type of text that they are going to use, along with the front size, and color before typing. By making sure that the Auto complete is on to help correct words that we sometimes misspell when we are typing to help cut down on the time of creating the document. I would sit down with them and have them to play with different pictures, while giving them instructions on how to insert a canvas within a Microsoft Word document. An example would be me asking the user to apply a picture to a document. While the user is attempting to do this I help the by showing the different ways it could be completed. Reference Nott, T. ...hard work. Each of you has had training in writing, and some of you know what the principles are. Putting them in practice is the challenge. If I had to boil down into a single thought or phrase what I think is most essential to effective writing, it would be this: attention to detail. Think precision. Precision is both a process and a product. Be sure your grasp of the English language is complete and correct. Here is an example of a common misuse of a word: "In today's discussion, we are going to hone in on the early weeks of the Civil War." The word "hone" means sharpen, as in sharpening a knife. It is the wrong word to use in the context above. A correct, metaphoric use of "hone" would be this one: "Today we are going to hone our pronunciation skills." In the first sentence, the correct word in place of "hone" is "home"--" . . . we are going to home in on the early weeks of the Civil War." If you have the slightest doubt about the appropriateness of a word for the context in which you are using it, look up that word in the dictionary....

...at an employer’s career site or a job-posting board. Think of your résumé as a personal advertisement and request for an interview. General Portrayal of Age Write your résumé to reflect a strongly positive and proud portrayal of your depth of capabilities and talents. Make no attempt to mislead or misinform the reader about your age. Most résumés require no more than 10 to 20 years of recent and relevant work history. Include earlier positions if they show qualifications for the position of interest. Generally avoid or minimize use of the word, "experience." Instead, emphasize capabilities, qualifications, and achievements—not previous titles, duties, and length of service. General Format and Appearance Résumés should not exceed two pages for most occupations, though educators and some professionals may require longer curricula vitae. Prepare your résumé in a standard word-processing application, such as Microsoft Word, using a traditional, easily read font, such as Arial or Times New Roman. Keep the text in a uniform font size of 10 or 11. Your name, section headings, and employers’ names can be in a bold and in a somewhat larger font, perhaps 12 or 13. Avoid multiple fonts and excessive bolding, italics, and underlining. The preferred résumé style for age-50+ workers combines a functional, qualification-based format and a traditional, chronological...

...Words in Transformation The article “A FEW PRO TIPS ON WORD USAGE FOR UNSOPHISTICATED ARMATURE” by George Jonas which appeared in the National Post on January 12, 2013, claims how some words appears to changeover from one meaning to another as time passes by. Jonas uses some examples to prove his point, but no evidence of where his sources came from. He states that the most noticeable word in English language is “gay”; however, he did not include a statistical report on how he came up with his conclusions, and also no references at the end of the article. Can the reader believe that “gay” is the most perceives word in English or is Jonas just being bias towards our current generations? Compare to his time where words where not simplify enough as they are now. Also would it be because it is the most common word that has been drawing lot of attention lately in our society? Since, this generation is less conservative. Without any proofs of his sources, there is a disbelief in his argument. The other word that the author notice to have change drastically since his time was the “The luck adjective sophisticated”. He noted that since, this word have two different meanings it has fall as a victim to the use of “language” to take advantage of it meaning. He mentions that at his time of using words, the key definition of “sophisticated” was about doing something totally wrong but thanks to “language” today it has twisted it from bad to something good. It seems like the...

...When hearing the word schema people would not be able to explain what it means, and not realize that they use it in their everyday life. However it’s simple, schema is a concept that helps organize and interpret information. Schemas can be useful, because they allow us to take shortcuts in understanding a large amount of information. However, the concept can also cause us to reject relevant information in favor of information that confirms our pre-existing beliefs and ideas. Schemas can contribute to stereotypes and make it difficult to recall new information. So in order to understand schemas and the effects it has on a person’s life I formed a small case study. To start with, when starting the project, I first asked 10 participants who are in my family as well as my friends to help me in a project for psychology. Secondly I told the participants “I’m going to recite 12 words to you and show you those words at the same time.” The words were: Rest, Tired, Awake, Dream, Snore, Bed, Eat, Slumber, Sound, Comfort, Wake, and Night. After reciting the words I asked each participants what their name, age, and occupation was and when I went back to the list of words it seemed as all the words I recited to them didn’t matter, since they were more focused on the series of questions I asked 30 seconds after reciting the words. Next, I had asked the participants to write all the words they could remember within two minutes, but almost all ten participants had given up within a minute, since...

...Everything in the world is good to me. I like everything. I hope everything is great. Great is the definition of something. The definition of something is scary. Love is just a four letter word. To be in a relationship one must commit to someone love someone and be there for someone. I think that being in a relationship is great. Poems can say words that other people cant and sometimes I don’t have the words to say to someone so put it in a love song. My heart beats for you my heart loves you my heart help me to express things that I could not say on my own. A special world for you and me A special bond one cannot see It wraps us up in its cocoon And holds us fiercely in its womb. Its fingers spread like fine spun gold Gently nestling us to the fold Like silken thread it holds us fast Bonds like this are meant to last. And though at times a thread may break A new one forms in its wake To bind us closer and keep us strong In a special world, where we belong. - Sheelagh Lennon -My love, I have tried with all my being to grasp a form comparable to thine own, but nothing seems worthy; I know now why Shakespeare could not compare his love to a summer’s day. It would be a crime to denounce the beauty of such a creature as thee, to simply cast away the precision God had placed in forging you. Each facet of your being whether it physical or spiritual is an ensnarement from which there is no release. But I do not wish release. I wish to stay entrapped forever...
