Assess what steps you would need to take to achieve a better work/life balance.

Achieving a better work-life balance will help me in reducing stress and increase the productivity and will attain it in following ways:

1) Prioritize: Identifying the most important item from a to-do list will help me to keep myself in focus on what is really most important ones and thereby decreasing the unnecessary stress on unimportant/untimely task. This comes in handy especially when my supervisor gives me multiple projects. At that time I need to prioritize the most important task from least important ones. 2) Proactive: Someone has rightly said “Be proactive not reactive”. At my workplace, there are times when I get really reactive and then loose focus on most important things leading to fail to operate at peak capacity then. If I had schedule my all day plan then I can attack tasks proactively rather then waiting external inputs to land on my desk hence increasing my stress and leaving me overwhelmed. It has actually prevented me from bringing a lot of work home. 3) Vacation: Taking vacation and totally disconnecting from work has actually helped me to get recharge and re-energized. It has helped me to strike a balance between work and my personal life. 4) Exercise: Research shows that regular exercise helps keep you clear-headed, which in turn improves control of work-life balance, reduces stress and increases self-efficacy. I have inculcated brisk walk in my life either in early morning or at lunchtime, which helps me in clearing my mind and is invigorating at the same time.

Is your life filled with too many distractions? If so, analyze what can be done to eliminate the stress and tension (distractions) and make room in your life for more meaningful communication. If not, record what have been the keys to your success.

Yes, I do have some distractions in my life and I try to keep myself away from those distractions in following ways:

1) Reducing screen time: Screens are a major force for distractions and mental dispersions in modern times. I have reduced the TV time. Even if I have to watch any show I watch it online, so that there won’t be any commercials. Hence, less distractions and can indulge myself in more meaningful stuff. Also, I have reduced the amount of time on my smart phone by reducing total number of apps. In totality, it helps me to be more calmer and less dispersed time. 2) Giving away unnecessary material possession: Unused/unnecessary material items take more space and cluttering your life. I inculcate this by taking the time out to clean my room by throwing away the material clutter and this in turn I’ll find more room to breath and will have very few things that will distract. 3) Simplify your actions and thoughts: Modern life is filled with distractions. These distractions over complicate the life. Because of the increased workload and pressure we try to handle so many things at once that is where we start losing our control and focus. I keep it simple by keeping focus on one area at a time and give 100% to it. Also, I try to quiet my mind by practicing meditation. Sitting meditation is the most concentrated form of mindfulness and therefore will have the greatest effect towards what we’re trying to achieve: a quieter mind. 4) Reduce social distractions: Everyone is on social media these days. At a point, I got so addicted to check Facebook, twitter, Instagram accounts 20 times in a day. I started working on keeping my social time online to a minimum.

Communication-style bias is a state of mind that most of us experience from time to time. How can mirroring help us avoid this form of bias?

Almost everyone has face communication-bias from time to time. Someone has right said that “Never to judge book by its cover”. The bias is likely to happen when you meet someone who displays style different from your own. For an example, there is a quiet, introvert person who may feel comfortable in front of someone who is very outspoken and extrovert. On the other hand, if you come across someone who has same communication style as yours then communication-bias is very less likely to happen.

We can cope with the communication bias in following ways:

1) Self-awareness: We must develop awareness of our own unique style. Accurate self-knowledge is essential for developing strong interpersonal relationships. Knowledge of your communication style gives us a fresh perspective and sets the stage for improved relations with others. 2) Mirroring: Mirroring is when one person intentionally matches the body language of the individual they are meeting with. The second step in coping with communication style bias is learning to assess the communication style of those people with whom you have contact. Once we identify another person’s communication style then we can develop more effective relationships with yourself and others. We become more sensitive and tolerant to others style.

Throughout life we often allow other people’s assessment of us to determine our own self-assessment. What steps can we take to avoid being overly influenced by the views of others?

Someone has rightly said, “Listen to everyone, but do what your heart says”. I will take following steps to avoid being overly influenced by the views of others:

1) Making a conscious effort to form your own opinion: Make yourself an independent spirit. Do not let others thinking, impact yours. Rather than adopt the herd mentality, educate yourself about your choices so that you can make a well-informed decision. Developing your own mentality rather than getting overly influenced by view of others. 2) Take time to make decisions: Take time to make decisions by asking questions and thinking about your options – even if it means you risk looking “stupid” or holding up the line. Just because everyone else seems to be making a quick decision doesn’t mean they know best. 3) May not be right for you: Thought everyone else is pursuing a particular route it may not be right for you. Avoid falling victim to “herd mentality”. Think and decide twice before you pursue the path. 4) Think about consequences of your decision: Before agreeing to a course of action, even at a very preliminary level, think about the consequences of your decision.

...Midterm Exam SO141 Introduction to Sociology Fall 2, 2012 Park University LRAFB Coleman Do questions ___, ___, ___, and any two others. 1. Compare and contrast the three main sociological perspectives. The symbolic interactionist perspective, also known as symbolic interactionism, directs sociologists to consider the symbols and details of everyday life, what these symbols mean, and how people interact with each other. According to the functionalist perspective, also called functionalism, each aspect of society is interdependent and contributes to society's functioning as a whole. The government, or state, provides education for the children of the family, which in turn pays taxes on which the state depends to keep itself running. The conflict perspective, which originated primarily out of Karl Marx's writings on class struggles, presents society in a different light than do the functionalist and symbolic interactionist perspectives. While these latter perspectives focus on the positive aspects of society that contribute to its stability, the conflict perspective focuses on the negative, conflicted, and ever-changing nature of society. Unlike functionalists who defend the status quo, avoid social change, and believe people cooperate to effect social order, conflict theorists challenge the status quo, encourage social change (even when this means social revolution), and believe rich and powerful people force social order on the poor and the weak. Conflict theorists...

...1. (TCO A) Which of the following statements is CORRECT? (Points : 10) It is generally more expensive to form a proprietorship than a corporation because, with a proprietorship, extensive legal documents are required. Corporations face fewer regulations than sole proprietorships. One disadvantage of operating a business as a sole proprietorship is that the firm is subject to double taxation, at both the firm level and the owner level. One advantage of forming a corporation is that equity investors are usually exposed to less liability than in a regular partnership. If a regular partnership goes bankrupt, each partner is exposed to liabilities only up to the amount of his or her investment in the business. 2. (TCO G) Which of the following statements is CORRECT? (Points : 10) The statement of cash flows reflects cash flows from operations, but it does not reflect the effects of buying or selling fixed assets. The statement of cash flows shows where the firm’s cash is located; indeed, it provides a listing of all banks and brokerage houses where cash is on deposit. The statement of cash flows reflects cash flows from continuing operations, but it does not reflect the effects of changes in working capital. The statement of cash flows reflects cash flows from operations and from borrowings, but it does not reflect cash obtained by selling new common stock. The statement of cash flows shows...

Appendix a Midterm Exam

...Appendix A   Midterm Exam            Access the Week Four Electronic Reserve Readings located under the materials section of your student website.          Read this week’s Electronic Reserve Readings.          Write a paragraph of approximately 100 words for each section listed below.   1. Using the critical thinking skills you have gained so far and referring to the materials provided for this assignment, identify two possible strategies that Thomas Hutchinson or Samuel Adams likely used to develop and improve their thinking as those historical events unfolded prior to taking a stand and acting according to their beliefs. Two strategies’ that Thomas Hutchison and Samuel Adams used were weighing out all the pros and cons and solicitation. Thomas Hutchison felt that all ties need to be maintained with England to keep the peace between them and their colonies. Therefore weighing out all the pros and cons to increase the trade for the colonies so that it would put them in a better position financially, could have been a strategy they likely used. Basically the pros and cons show the positive and negatives of taxation without representation. This could have likely been determined through solicitation of opinions among the colonists, in which a number of them agreed with the radicals.       2. Explain the importance of building a foundation for critical and creative thinking when evaluating historical events such as the Boston Tea Party. The importance...

Midterm Paper Exam

...Andrea McManus EDU 144 IN1 Midterm Exam Paper Watching this video brings back memories from when I was pregnant and had my daughter. When you get pregnant and have a baby there is such joy. Our bodies want to make babies and they are good at it. You will find that creating a new being is easy. From a single cell, you built a body that has 100 trillion cells. You learn that all of your descendants have the same DNA. You may wonder how did you do it? Sex is the method of choice for 99% of population. With sexual reproduction each individual offers DNA. Sexual reproduction is quite tricky. The man’s testicles are packed with tiny tubes churning out 1,000 new sperm every second. Each sperm is one of a kind. When you reproduce, you get 23 chromosomes from the mom and 23 chromosomes from the dad. An unborn child carries genes from their ancestors. This is why you have children who have characteristics of their ancestors. A woman begins creating eggs as a fetus in her mother’s womb. The eggs begin to die, but that is okay. In ovaries, it’s quality not quantity that counts. Every month, one of a woman’s two ovaries selects an immature egg cell to lavish with attention. One hundred support cells feed the egg until it is fat. When the egg matures, it comes out of the ovary and travels to the uterus. It is swept along, but needs DNA from the sperm fast. If it does not get fertilized in a few hours, it dies. When trying to reproduce, it is important that you are cautious about your...

...Midterm Exam Lisa Lippincott Excelsior College The Kansas City Gun Experiment in 1992 - 1993 used intensive police patrols directed to an 80-block hotspot area where the homicide rate was 20 times the national average. It represented a unique approach to crime prevention through preventive patrol. Question 1 Is this approach different from traditional patrol? If so how? If not, how is it similar? What did patrol officers in this experiment do that was different from what basic patrol officers do? What was the relationship between the officers in this experiment and other patrol officers? The Kansas City Gun Experiment was a police patrol project that aimed at reducing gun violence, drive-by shootings, and homicides. The purpose of the experiment was to focus on gun crime “hot spots” through problem-solving policing and directed patrol in high-crime areas. The overall goal was to prove that this style of policing would reduce crime by removing guns from the streets and deterrence through aggressive enforcement (Walker & Katz, 2006, p 295) Routine traditional patrol maintained in five beats, which included marked police cars, rapid response to calls, arrests and follow-up investigations. The final five beats involved in the experiment used a proactive patrol approach, increasing patrol to twice the norm. The extra officers worked from 7:00 pm to 1:00 am, seven days/week during the hours when the most gun-related crimes occur. Police officers assigned to the experimental...
