According to the American College of Nurse-Midwives, both CNM’s and CM’s must complete and graduate from an educational program that meets the educational standards set by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or ACME. After graduation from these programs, CM’s and CNM’s can be certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board and hold the same license and scope of practice (“Program,” n.d.). CNM’s must graduate from a nurse-midwifery education program to be able to take the test to earn their certification in midwifery. CM’s must earn a graduate’s degree, meet several prerequisites, and then complete a midwifery education program to be able to take the same test that CNM’s take (“Evidence,” n.d.).
