...Project Research Paper RES/351 Teyronn Jackson Julie Bonner Project Research Paper Today, there is a growing need for more skilled maintainers to perform maintenance on military aircraft. There are multiple airframes and platforms across the military that are suffering from not having the manpower to support the maintenance needs that are required for the daily upkeep of these sophisticated weapons systems. We intend to address this growing concern by analyzing the needs based on the airframe, type model and series of each platform. Because there are so many different platforms across the different branches of the military, this research will take will be divided into teams of personnel who are designated subject matter experts for performing task that are required to maintain the individual systems of each aircraft. Other items that we intend to address during the process of this research include, but are not limited to unethical behavior and the effects it will have on the individual as well as the organization and society. We will also examine courses of action to be taken to address unethical behavior and what can be done to monitor it so as to prevent it from reoccurring. We intend to deglamorize this behavior as much as possible by addressing it as quickly as possible and encouraging the reporting of any actions that may be a clear indication of unethical behavior during the process of performing this research. Safety should always be paramount while conducting...

...Are women capable of serving in combat roles in the military psychologically? Kevin Carpenter BCOM/275 July 16th, 2012 Sandra Payne ABSTRACT According to an article in the Huffington Post women handle combat stress as well as men (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/08/women-combat-stress_n_873381.html). It is the purpose of this paper to show that psychologically women do not handle combat stress as well as men. Through research I will show that women have a higher chance of suffering from Military Sexual Trauma (MST) and have increased risk of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The definition of MST used by the VA is given by U.S. Code (1720D of Title 38). It is “psychological trauma, which in the judgment of the VA mental health professional, resulted from a physical assault of a sexual nature, battery of a sexual nature, or sexual harassment which occurred while the Veteran was serving on active duty or active duty for training.” Sexual harassment is further defined as “repeated, unsolicited verbal or physical contact of a sexual nature which is threatening in character.” In more concrete terms, MST includes any sexual activity where you are involved against your will (http://www.ptsd.va.gov/public/pages/military-sexual-trauma-general.asp ). PTSD as covered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs can occur after a traumatic event. A traumatic event is something terrible and scary that you see, hear about, or that happens to you like combat exposure...

What was the purpose of the article (what was the author attempting to convey, research, etc.)? The authors were comparing the association of military service history with past-year suicidal ideation and past-30-days mental distress in a probability-based sample of adults. 3. What were the results of the study? The authors discovered that the military history status among those aged 40 to 64 years was associated with both past-year suicidal ideation and past-30-days mental distress. The authors found no significant associations among the younger or older age groups. 4. What are the recommendations given by the author for change, implementation, future research, etc.? It is possible that increases in suicidal behavior after separation from active-duty military service are related to disruptions in social networks and availability of other supportive resources. Research is needed to confirm the increased risk after separation from active-duty military service and investigate the relationship between transition and...

...performance (Work Environment, 2014). Student nurses are new to the profession but they have to get used to the work load needed to fulfill the duties and responsibilities as a nurse. Student nurses are still in the stage where they have to absorb a lot of information as much as possible. Each student reacts to different amount of work load. Some students can handle well in doing multiple things at the same time while others cannot focus if given the same amount of stressors. Work load is a factor in choosing a work area among student nurses because they can match their working capacity with the amount of work load required for the job. Work load capacity varies with different branches of the nursing profession. Stress levels are high for people working as a military nurse because of the high work load the profession demands. Military nurses have the same responsibilities as to with their civilian counterpart but is more stressful due to added military duties and responsibilities. They mainly care for the members of the military from active duty members all the way to retired veterans. Duties and responsibilities get heavier every time a member rises in rank (Military Nursing, 2013). Not only do military nurses have to live up to their duties as a nurse, they have to comply with the standards of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). Being in the emergency room also gives high stress levels for nurses because they give immediate response to patients experiencing...

...Professor Slade LIBS 499 5 May 2014 Research Proposal for Senior Research Project Introduction This document details planning and preparation for the Senior Research Project, the capstone requirement in partial fulfillment for the bachelor’s degree in liberal studies at North Carolina A&T State University. Included are an overview of the project, the rationale for choosing this topic, the design of this project, and the methods that will be used to conduct the research. This proposal also includes resources needed to complete this project, and an annotated bibliography that will be used as the core sources for the literature review I will write for the final paper. Overview and Purpose of the Research Project The role of women in combat has changed drastically over the years. Their inclusion in the military has increased followed by their involvement. However, the women are still limited in terms of what roles they are allowed to take. The general stigma against women depicts them as homemakers and their place in combat cannot exceed certain levels such as allowing them in the front line. There are other factors that have been linked to their limitation including their capacity to handle emotions, their need for extended leave when they get pregnant and their overall performance as compared to the men. People are constantly advocating for equal rights in men and women. In a bid to achieve that, women should be encouraged to uptake military positions while the policy makers...

...Conduct Business Research Team B RES/351 December 4, 2013 Eric Hogan Preparing to Conduct Business Research In the following paper we will analyze, discuss, and research the reasons behind the U.S. military’s rising suicide rate. Before we get into more details, we will have to ask ourselves some questions as part of our research to get the right answers to support our hypotheses in this complex subject. The first question would be: Who are more likely to commit suicide in the U.S. Army, National Guards, or active duty Soldiers? The suicide rate is higher among the National Guard members because active duty members are accustomed to a more structured way of living, established by standard procedures, steady income, and access to support groups at any given time, which translates into a lower suicide rate among active duty members. National Guard and Reserve Soldiers, predominantly serve part-time, which usually consist of one weekend a month and two weeks during the summer, except when activated for deployment missions. Thus, acquiring to adapt to the active duty way of living, which was introduced to them in basic training, in addition, Reservist have to combine his or her personal lives, financial, and work related issues with his or her transition to active duty status. “In addition, most of the suicides occurred outside the military context—not during a weekend drill, or during annual training, and not while performing other active duty military service, but rather...

...Joseph P. Burrow David Benz MKT 553 6 January 2004 [pic] Air Force Reserve – Above and Beyond The following paper will compare and contrast the appropriate use of different components of marketing communications, addressing challenges of integrated messaging. I will focus on a smaller component of the Air Force that specifically targets a different market. I will assess how the Air Force Reserve has integrated and unified their marketing materials. The Air Force Reserve is a separate command within the total force structure of the Department of the Air Force. The Air Force Reserve adds the additional strength of nearly 75,000 personnel to the active duty Air Force strength of 365,000. I choose to explore this section of the Air Force since the Air Force Reserve is a smaller, more specialized entity. Just as the active duty Air Force has the slogan “Step into the Blue”, the Air Force Reserve also has etched out a slogan of their own, “Above & Beyond.” The Air Force Reserve recruiters are searching for a smaller share of the market than their active duty counterparts. The Air Force Reserve is primarily searching for individuals who have previously served on active duty and who want to continue their military commitment part time. However, the Air Force Reserve has a smaller pool of applicants to work with, thus, making the recruiters job a little leaner. Therefore, the Air Force decided to tackle the problem head on. The Air Force consolidated several...

...As I begin to write this paper I realize that some people might be wondering “Aren’t there already women going to combat in Iraq and Afghanistan?” Well, the answer to that question was one of the driving forces behind wanting to write a paper on the subject. The short answer is “Yes”. The long answer is no, there have been no women who have gone to combat in a direct Combat Military Occupational Specialty in the history of the American Soldier. “Well how can the answer be both yes and no at the same time”? The answer comes in the forms of rules and regulations that once prohibited women from even training to take on the jobs that are considered the Combat Arms of the military. Sometimes non-military members don’t have the luxury of seeing how the military operates from the inside. The military is like a small microcosm of the world and the citizens that they protect. There is a specific job for every task, no matter how menial or prominent, that must be trained for before being allowed to officially have it as a job title. This is especially true when it comes to Combat Arms; these are jobs that will intentionally put the Soldier in the direct line of fire. The training is intense and grueling and requires a lot of very physical strength and stamina to complete the courses to become members of their ranks. Women are currently allowed to serve in Combat support roles, but the fight has been for women to be able to serve in combat positions such as Infantry, Field Artillery and...

The main points of this paper include the geography and military of Israel as well as United States of America (US) interest in Israel. 2. The nation of Israel is located on the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea. Lebanon is located to the north, Syria to the northeast, Jordan to the east, and Egypt to the southwest.1 Israel is a small nation in terms of geographical size with only 20,770 square kilometers of land and water area.2 It spans 290 miles in length and 85 miles across at the widest point.3 Even with the relatively small size Israel boasts an extremely diverse topography. The diversity starts in the north with mountains and ends in the south with the Negev Desert. The Negev Desert covers some 4,700 square miles which is more than half of the total land area of Israel.4 Israel also contains the lowest body of water in the world, the Dead Sea. It lies roughly 1,300 feet below sea level.5...

...HOMOSEXUALITY AT WAR Sociology Research Paper 1 George Barnes Strayer University Abstract In this research paper I will attempt to find meaning of why gays in the Armed Forces was outlawed and shunned. In my 20 years in the U.S. Army, I have met many gays, open and hidden. Is it right for society and our government to say no you cannot serve your county and defend the Constitution of the United States? Men women who are all capable of performing duties required by different jobs in the Armed Forces, some better than others. Are they different people because of their sexual orientation? Homosexuality at War Homosexuality is defined in our text books as a sexual attraction to someone of the same sex. A brief history of gays in the military before I get into the dilemma. The ancient Greeks had gays openly serve in the armies, and were no big deal. In fact they were actually formidable opponents for opposing forces. That is pretty much were openly serving had ended. In the 14th century, men were burnt at the stake for their same sex affairs. George Washington discharged a soldier for same sex affairs and homosexual acts in 1778. The U.S. Military prohibited homosexuality in the Articles of War of 1916 but it wasn’t really enforced until World War II. They started screening recruits more thoroughly by feminine body characteristics, the way they dressed and carried themselves, even patulous rectum. Women that were gay were allowed at that time to serve because questioning...

...Mandatory military service is a subject that evokes an immediate knee jerk response without benefit of research or facts. Should the federal government require mandatory service of all citizens between the ages of 18 and 35? Yes, I believe it should since the benefits far outweigh the temporary discomfort. All of society benefits by this mandatory civic duty. This topic was selected because of a personal belief in the requirement and the need for drastic action to “repair” today’s society. Today’s society expects an individual to graduate high school and go on to college or directly into the job force. These two only options force a large number of graduates to search for alternatives. One alternative is military service. Other alternatives include, minimum wage positions which require no training, not working at all which means being dependent on someone else, or turning to crime for a living such as theft or drugs. Politicians and lawmakers prefer not to address this issue and pretend it had been finalized. They understand how unpopular they could be and how much opposition they would get from anti-military segment, young adults that would be affected, and those just looking for a platform to vocalize their views. Most politicians look at the immediate effect on their own careers rather than the expected benefits in the future. Lawmakers look at the probable outcry of violating civil rights. A large number of citizens will oppose mandatory military service out...

...Who of the Family Leave and Medical Act Douglas E. Jones MGMT 5843 Current Issues in Human Resource Management Abstract The Family Leave and Medical Act is one of the acts approved by Congress to allow for an employee to have a certain amount of time to deal with a medical emergency. In this informa-tional paper, I will discuss the 4 major reasons for implementing of the FMLA. I will begin with what is FMLA, that is a thorough definition of FMLA and what it was originally intended for. Then I will proceed with the why of FMLA. Why was this act proposed and why was it passed into law. Next, I will discuss how the FMLA works. How is it supposed to work and is it actual-ly working? Included in this, I will present some case studies to that will present different as-pects of FMLA. And finally I will discuss who uses FMLA. Who was it intended to help, who it is actually helping and who it is harming. Also, I will present case studies that will either confirm or deny if the FMLA is working. Finally I will offer some possible solutions to help to fix what is broken with FMLA and even possibly offer some suggestions for further research on FMLA. Introduction FMLA is designed to allow certain family members up to 12 weeks unpaid leave for family emergencies. It was enacted in 1993 but has had some changes made to it due to legisla-tion. FMLA was originally designed to cover both employees and employers. Since its inception, there were some issues with it and...

...Wells A PAPER Submitted to the faculty of the Excelsior College, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Nursing. ALBANY, NY 2012 Abstract In the legal world that we live in, we are constantly at risk of facing ethical dilemmas that may arise from conflicting legal obligations. If caring is important in nursing, then nurses will have to make a concerted effort to define a specific duty of care in clinical, administrative, educational, research and military environments. In order to fully preserve tradition and concept of caring within the profession of nursing, we must make every effort to understand its ethical implications and provide the guidance needed for navigating dilemmas that regularly arise in relation to it. Analysis of an Ethical Conflict in Practice: Battlefield Nursing This paper will provide a brief overview of a possible ethical dilemma that may arise within the field or nursing during war time. It will then move on to explain the multiple ethical issues within the overall situation, the decision making model that the author has chosen to apply to the dilemma, and the stakeholders with their possible interest in the decision making process. With this information defined, the paper will move on to state the author’s derived solution to the situation, as well as a moral justification for the plan of action to be implemented. Overview The ethical dilemma I have chosen to address in this paper is that of...
