...millionaire mindset club essential book summaries HOW TO WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE by Dale Carnegie INTRODUCTION When Dale Carnegie first sat down to write How to Win Friends and Influence People he really didn’t realize exactly what a best seller it would be, nor did he realize that over 70 years later it would still be in print - and be acclaimed as ‘the best all time’ self-help book in the world. The book was first published in 1937 and was developed from the real life experiences of hundreds of people, rather than from just one person’s opinions. The idea for the book was brought about by the results of an investigation conducted by the Carnegie Foundation that was carried out to determine how people became financially successful. The investigation found that success took only fifteen percent of actual technical knowledge, and that the actual key to success rested on the other eighty five percent. This eighty five percent was identified as possessing skills in human engineering: the ability to get on with others well, your individual outlook and people skills. These results came as a shock to many at the time as these skills were not widely taught in courses or classes. A new concept had been discovered and a large hole emerged that needed to be filled by a new peopled-skilled class. This is how the Dale Carnegie Course In Effective Speaking and Human Relations was born – and the book a mere set of ideas on memo cards which were discussed and lectured on. These...

...A Model Millionaire by Oscar Wilde Oscar Wilde’s short story A Model Millionaire was published in 1887 during the Victorian era (1830-1900). The short story tells us about Hughie Erskine, the happy-go-lucky protagonist who is a poor young man with no profession that gets by on life on a yearly allowance by his aunt. Hughie is in love with Laura and wants to marry her, but her father the colonel will have none of that until Hughie can present a sum of 10,000 pounds. Hughie is friends with Alan Revor an artist who is in the process of painting a portrait of a beggar who turns out to be the millionaire Baron Haisberg. Erskine feels compassion for the beggar not knowing that he is a millionaire and shows his compassion for this beggar by given him his last soverign. The beggar aka Haisberg finds this deed so admirable that he gives him a gift of 10,000 pounds that he needs to marry Laura. During the Victorian era when this short story was written much focus was on the disparity between rich and poor partly caused by the industrial revolution. This short story deals with that issue in a somewhat lighter tone and centers on the materialistic impact on life. If you do not have success materially you will also fail in love or marriage as it seems to be required that you posses money in order to obtain marriage. However, in the end the theme of morality often seen in Victorian literature seems to show us that human values will overpower the strength of material wealth. The short story...

...Fitzgerald that follows a cast of characters living in the fictional town of West Egg on prosperous Long Island in the summer of 1922. The story primarily concerns the young and mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his quixotic passion and obsession for the beautiful debutante Daisy Buchanan. Considered to be Fitzgerald's magnum opus, The Great Gatsby explores themes of decadence, idealism, resistance to change, social upheaval, and excess, creating a portrait of the Jazz Age or the Roaring Twenties that has been described as a cautionary tale regarding theAmerican Dream.[1][2] Fitzgerald, inspired by the parties he had attended while visiting Long Island's north shore, began planning the novel in 1923 desiring to produce, in his words, "something new—something extraordinary and beautiful and simple and intricately patterned."[3] Progress was slow with Fitzgerald completing his first draft following a move to the French Riviera in 1924. His editor, Maxwell Perkins, felt the book was too vague and convinced the author to revise over the next winter. Fitzgerald was ambivalent about the book's title, at various times wishing to re-title the novel Trimalchio in West Egg. First published by Scribner's in April 1925, The Great Gatsby received mixed reviews and sold poorly; in its first year, the book sold only 20,000 copies. Fitzgerald died in 1940, believing himself to be...

...buyout offers after Facebook's founding. The company did, however, accept private investments from companies--often technology firms. Question 1: What made Facebook go to public on May 18, 2012? Many reasons, what made Facebook going to public on May 18, 2012, but there are only 3 main reasons which are: * SEC Rule: The key reason Facebook is going public is because of an antiquated Securities and Exchange Commission rule from 1964 that says that any private company with more than 500 "shareholders of record" must adhere to the same financial disclosure requirements that public companies do. That means filing detailed quarterly and yearly financial reports, and dealing with all the scrutiny that comes with a powerful company opening its books. * Employees will breathe a sigh of relief: One big upside is that many employees can start cashing out, and the newfound wealth of a successful Facebook IPO would be widespread enough that it should be easy to spot. Given that, going public is important to help Facebook keep good people, although some newly rich always bolt (as happened at Google). It should also cheer up those with restricted stock units, which plenty of Facebookers have privately griped about. * Enhancing The Liquidity of Share: Zuckerberg can make bold bets, especially given that the company is reportedly planning to sell just 10 percent of the company to the public. He and his team will still be very much in control. Facebook would suddenly see...

Two years later, Bly moved to New York City and began working for the New York World. In conjunction with one of her first assignments for the World, she spent several days on Blackwell's Island, posing as a mental patient for an exposé. In 1889, the paper sent her on a trip around the world in a record-setting 72 days. Bly died on January 27, 1922, at age 57, in New York City. ESSAY: Famed investigative journalist Nellie Bly was born Elizabeth Jane Cochran (she later added an "e" to the end of her name) on May 5, 1864, in Cochran's Mills, Pennsylvania. The town was founded by her father, Michael Cochran, who amply provided for his family by working as a judge and landowner. Her grandfather had immigrated to America from Ireland in the 1790s. Bly's mother was Michael Cochran's second wife, Mary Jane Cochran; their marriage produced five children, the third of which was Bly. (Prior to their union, Michael and Mary Jane were both widowed. Michael had 10 children by his first wife; Mary Jane had no children from her first marriage.) Bly suffered a tragic loss in 1870, at the age of 6, when her father died suddenly. Amidst their grief, Michael Cochran's death presented a grave financial detriment to his family, as he left them without a will, and, thusly, no legal claim to his estate. In an effort to support her now-single...

...Individual 5 Art Appreciation Final Paper Derick Stevenson Rough Draft Introduction Art has been a thing of the past which has also been brought into the future. Everyone loves the great images and structures that the artists portray in their art work. The three art work that I have chosen are Impressionate works of art by Paul Gauguin, Vincent Van Gogh, and Edward March. This paper will include the description of the works including the styles, a summary of the artists’ personal philosophies of art as well as trends and schools of thought in the art world at the time and in the place the artist was working. Summary Description of the works /style The painting called the “Vision after the Sermon” which is a symbolist of art. Pauls’ used the dropping of a brushstroke called “cezannist” that included matte fields of persuasively movement and non-naturalistic colors. Those colors express the supreme visions of “Breton” as the farmer women’s. . (Kang, 2011) This work is also considered as Gauguin’s definite departure of naturalism that controls impressionism. His colors are without gradients, and it’s contrary to the traditions of the Renaissance. In this works he also ignored the rules of perspective. Because he made the figures on the foreground too large in relation to Jacob and the Angel. He also blocks the view of the wrestlers which according to the tradition should have been the central element of the whole composition. This painting was rejected by the...
