...Streeter, the main character, gets the postcard from Forfar. The sender, W.S., asks whether he really thinks that he is really gets to grips with people. Walter’s correspondent’s criticism lingered in his mind. About ten days later comes another postcard, this time from Berwick-on-Tweed. It says that the writer is on the border and that some people call his stories otherworldly. Walter Streeter ponders over this and begins to wonder about the sender – whether it is a man or a woman, why does he or she call it otherworldly. He tries to write, but the words come haltingly, as though contending with an extra-strong barrier of self-criticism. As the days pass, his works are no longer homogeneous. The third postcard shows the picture of York Minster and the sender asks whether Walter Streeter is writing something or looking round for ideas. For the First time it strikes him that the initials are his own and he wonders: what if he is writing postcards to himself. He also mentions that the handwriting is the resemblance to his own. He shows letter to his friend who says that the sender is a lunatic woman who fell in love with him and tries to make him interested in her. He feels reassured for some time but the he thinks what if he is a lunatic himself. He now has to admit to himself that the postcard business has become a leading factor in his life. The next postcard is from Coventry Walter mentions a striking fact that each postcard comes from a place geographically closer to him than...

...Myra Garcia I'm just going to start off by saying this Gothic era is one of my favorite eras of all time, For one second I do not believe that this was an era art decline. I think this was an era of fascinating Buildings and awesome glass art like the Stonemasons and sculptors looking at this glass art is just cool they way they were even able to make such detail into glass. Almost like they were trying to show you that you can make art out of anything that nothing is impossible they were getting even more creative. With the Romanesque influences you can see it in the cathedrals and the other buildings. But with the new Gothic cathedrals it says in the chapter that this was an era of “technological innovations”. I really agree with this statement because with the buildings they had lofty masonry rib vaults on point arches help by flying external buttresses and internal illuminated with mystical light steaming through huge colored glass windows. That right there just shows you the that this truly was an era of technological innovations because the way they were able to build these monstrous cathedrals is amazing. I also liked the fact that some of these cathedrals real but the name in Gothic to me they looked really big and a little spooky I mean by no mean did half of these cathedrals look anywhere near a place of worship they looked dark and gloomy almost like a haunted house. An example of what I am talking about is looking at the West Facade of Saint Maclou ,rouen...

...On the South end of Abbey Saint-Denis the Creation story is depicted within that Rose Window. This biblical reference is a common story told for obvious reasons: to remind the viewer’s where it all started. It is impressive the detail found in each stained glass series. The ability to distinguish characters, zodiac signs, and different verses is proof that this Window is crafted flawlessly. The differences between the North and South Windows consist primarily of two factors, one the width of solder used. In the South facing Window we can recognize the dark thick material much more so than that of the North facing Window. The second difference is the Window displaying the Creation story is separated into many different individual images where...

... The new “Mexicans” instead kept their American culture by refusing to learn Spanish and keeping their cultural ties to the United States (Minster). Due to these ties, settlers identified with their origin country more which in the end made “independence (or US statehood) more attractive” (Minster). In addition, there was an issue involving slavery. Most of the Euro-Americans settlers “intended to obey Mexican laws just as long as the laws did not interfere with their property rights,” but this created a problem (Acuña 41). Considering how slaves where labeled as property, settlers were furious when Mexico tried to enforce the abolishment of slavery (Acuña 41). Slavery was illegal in Mexico and the settlers “circumvented the law by ‘freeing’ their slaves” and making their slaves sign “lifelong contracts as indentured servants” instead (Acuña 42). However many of the Anglo population feared that the Mexican authorities would be more restrictive and take away their slaves, increasing their desire for independence (Minster). To add, the Americans began to outnumber the native Texas Mexicans four-to-one while believing in the idea of Manifest Destiny (Minster). As more Euro-Americans settled, they believed that Texas should become part of the United States as expansion continued so that the territory could go to its “rightful owners” (Minster). This ideology and rising tension created a change in the territory of Texas afterwards. With the Anglo population growing and refusing to...

...1. The term “Dual Executives” can be described as a government system in which power is shared between both a prime minister and a president. The prime minister is referred to as the head of the government, while the president is the head of state. This form of government is utilized in both France and Russia. In France the division of power is based off the political party of both the two leaders. The majority of the time if both the president and prime minister are from the same political party the president will decided how much power the prime minster has. If they are from opposing parties defense and foreign policy are covered by president, while domestic and economic policy are covered by the prime minster. In Russia the president is...

...Pablo Escobar: Pseudo-Transformational Leader Case #1 Prepared for Dr. Bret Bradley Prepared by Team 2: Timothy Donnelly Sande Jarrett Chase Miller MGT-3133-001 - Leadership February 14, 2012 Intro Pablo Escobar was the charismatic, ruthless leader of the Medellin drug cartel in Columbia during the 1970s and 80s (Kelly, 2005, p. 118). He possessed charisma, intelligence, and an idealized status in the eyes of his followers like a transformational leader (Minster, 2012), but he showed criminal tendencies from a young age (A&E, 2012) and displayed the poor morals and selfish manipulation of others that characterize a pseudo-transformational leader. While Escobar did have some degree of idealized influence and appeared to exert inspirational motivation, his poor morals and thirst for power compromised these aspects of his leadership and led to a lack of intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration for his followers. Because of this, Escobar, while charismatic and effective, was not a true transformational leader. Idealized Influence The idealized influence factor is a characteristic of transformational leadership where the leader’s behavior, charisma and strong moral values compel followers to strive to emulate the leader and view him as a role model (Northouse, 2010, p. 177). Individuals with poor moral values may still have high charisma and seek out leadership roles, but without the moral element cannot be considered...

... HAMPTON UNIVERSITY HAMPTON, VIRGINIA The Mexican Revolution was a long and bloody civil war in many different areas of Mexico. The war came about after a long time of oppression and exploration of the Mexican people by the dictatorship-like government. The revolution began while Porfirio Diaz was the dictator of Mexico. Diaz first started off as a military general. Diaz was a liberal and was an important part of the reelection of President Juarez. Although they were friends, Diaz run against Juarez in the next election. Diaz lost and started to rebel against the government until Juarez shut him down. When Juarez suddenly died, Diaz become the new leader of Mexico with the help of the U.S. Government and the Roman Catholic Church (Minster). Now that Diaz was in power, corruption started to occur. The people of Mexico had no power and were not allowed to voice their opinion or select people for office position. In addition, the wealth of the country was controlled by a few people. By the beginning of the 20th century, the people of Mexico wanted more control of their control, especially after Diaz announced that Mexico was ready for democracy. Francisco Madero and a group of young reformers created the Anti-reeleccionista Party and began to run campaign against Diaz for the 1910 election. Madero was a firm supporter of democracy and of making government subject to the strict limits of the law, and the success of Madero's movement made him to President Díaz. Before the election...

... civil servents may appear cautious as they will not wish to upset the ministers they serve as ultimatly they are employed by them so it is not surprising they appear cautious. Civil servents may also appear cautious as a fith of there time is spent (as mentioned in the extract) on work directly relating to parliament ie drawing up speeches legislation responces to questions which is ultimatly very sensitive work relating directly to the posistion of the minister so they will be cautious in what the say and write. the posistion of prime minister firstly has no constitutionally enshriened role and therefore there is no guidebook or set of rules on how he or she is to operate there government so therefore the posistion of the prime minster or the pm is largely relient on what the holder chooses it to be and what they make of it. There are usally two main types of prime minister the presidental model and the prime minsterial model. Firstly the prime ministerial model is more cabinet focused this is usally beacause the pm has a small majority so it is neccesary for him to constsntly consult the cabinet on almost all issues and have a strong party consensus on the direction of government. A example of this kind of government was john majors early 90s government major only had a small majority of 18 so had to constantly consult his cabinet about...

...The prime minster has a lot of control about the decisions made by the government due to the powers they have over the cabinet. The prime minister chairs cabinet meetings, summing up decisions at the end of them and he also manages the agendas. This helps the prime minister to control meetings and direct the conversation in the course that he wants it to go in. The prime minister can also call when the meetings are and how long they are going to be showing that he determines the significant of a certain issue. People might say that the prime minister doesn’t have that much control over the government because they rely heavily on weather the cabinet and parliament have confidence in them or not. This is the ultimate limitation on there power. The prime minister cant don anything thing if the cabinet overrules them. Plus the policies that the prime minister makes are pointless if he cant get them passed, so he needs the approval of parliament and they must have the confidence in him. David Cameron is under the coalition and this could be problematic to him due to the fact that his cabinet is divided and he doesn’t have the majority of seats to get policies past without the liberal democrats. Being able to decide who the ministers are is a great way that the prime minister can control the decisions made by the government. The prime minister is allowed to select politicians who he will work most closest to- ministers in the cabinet. This means that the prime minister has...
