A CASE STUDY OF FARMING THE URBAN-AGRICULTURAL INTERFACE

The facts of the report appear to have strong validity; however the unknown facts that were excluded could potentially provide more definitive information to help make the decision that would keep everyone’s interest into consideration. The unknowns that should be included would have undoubtedly played a major role in determining the final decision to publish and act on the findings of the report. Because they were not revealed in the initial report it is relevant to keep them in mind. If in fact the use of pesticides and chemicals are adversely affecting the Minto-Park Island Park, it is in the Park Advisory Board’s interest to address the issues because …show more content…
The environmentalists that protested for the spotted owl to be put on the endangered species list wanted the ecosystem to continue without being disturbed so the owls would not become extinct. But on the other hand lumber companies would take a loss because it would reduce the amount of trees to be harvested which in return would result in job loss. The companies would no longer have a demand for the amount of workers if the workload was decreased. (Noon & McKelvey, 1996) In this case the Audubon Society want to preserve the park land and protect the wildlife in addition to the park users by restricting the use of the pesticides. The overall costs or consequences of implementing the restriction is unknown. The worst case scenario for the farmers would be lost of farming revenue if the quality and amount of crops is affected. The report should be revealed by the Park Society with recommendations to manage the agricultural part of the park in such a way that all those who have interests such as the farmers, park users, and environmentalists would be satisfied. A collaborative input effort between all involved could establish a benchmark for future park development or a running platform for the client in this situation. Works Cited
