Line of Duty Deaths happen a lot more throughout the year than they probably should happen. With all the hazards there are at every scene the first responders need to be careful especially now more than ever. In this case it was one fatal shooting of a New York City police officer by the name of Miosotis Familia. Her career ended a lot sooner than it should have and she leaves behind three children a 20-year-old daughter and 12 year olds twins one boy and one girl. His family knew he had a serious of mental illnesses including bipolar disorder and Schizophrenia. Before all this happened though his family thought he was back on track since he was almost off of parole. He also just got his own apartment and had a girlfriend. (BAKER, 2017) Then just a couple weeks before the shooting he called his sister and said he was gonna kill someone. He only got out of the hospital a week before he went and shot Officer Miosotis Familia. There really was no plan in mind that he had other than to take his revolver and shoot the first defenseless officer he saw on the street. As he turned the corner he saw the command center and new it was the perfect opportunity. As a police officer you don’t expect to be what some may call an assassination but, now some days you really don’t know when something like this may occur especially in a bigger city like New York. (BAKER, 2017) The way Mr. Bonds was acting many believe he wasn’t taking his meds so there’s no way he was really thinking clearly and was just so angry at everything happening around him. One thing they could’ve done different to prevent it like I said earlier maybe have someone watch the rear as well since there was already two officers watching the front. Even both of their families were distraught over the event that occurred. Bonds family just doesn’t understand how their son and own brother was doing so well just snap and kill a cop. The ones most effected in this situation would be Miosotis family since she was the whole provider for the family and the grandma is too old to work it hurts them the most.
