...Polysemous and Homonymous Lexical Verbs in the Glorious Qur'a:n into English Dr. Misbah M. D. Al- Sulaimaan (*) The present paper aims at: (I) specifying some polysemous and homonymous lexical verbs in the glorious Qur'a:n, (2) showing how these verbs are realized in English by different translators, (3) specifying the method of translating these verbs, (4) pointing out some problems that may arise from translating these verbs, (5) suggesting some remedies for solving these problems, and (6) proposing or choosing a rendering which coincides with the religious interpretation. To achieve these aims the study hypothesizes that: (I) there is no one-to-one correspondence between these polysemous and homonymous lexical verbs, and their equivalents in English, (2) rendering these verbs is affected by the cultural background of the translators, and (3) an effective rendering can be achieved if and only if both transliteration and communicative method are used. 1- Polysemy The term „polysemy‟ has been tackled by many scholars quite differently to the extent that confusion may undoubtedly occur. Any attempt to find a clear-cut definition of the term seems at first to be rather difficult. In this respect, different views will be presented in order to come up with an operational definition. (*) College of Arts / University of Mosul. 45 Problems of Translating Some Polysemous and Homonymous Dr. Misbah M. D. Ullmann (1966: 232) states that polysemy refers to "the use of the...

...Defeat Is More Illuminating For Green Shirts Shoaib Zaheer No comments A few months back, Pakistan had given Lankan Tigers a mauling in bilateral series. Pakistan under the astute and composed leadership of Misbah-ul-Haq entered the Asia Cup as favorites to win the tournament given their triumph in the previous outing at Bangla shores. The Asia Cup tournament will vindicate the green shirts about possible Achilles heel brewing under the curtains. One appreciates the team mammoth effort against Bangladesh and shocking India to go through to the Finals. Throughout the tournament there were areas of concern for the team in view of global trophy success in 2015 held in Australia. First, Shahid Afridi did play well in terms of batting by pulling off the amazing heist against India and decimating Bengalis to achieve a gigantic score. Shahid Afridi is one of the most iconic cricketers the country has produced but there must be a serious concern about fitness since he has become more prone to injuries. The all-rounder has not set world alight with his bowling since few years. It is imperative for the team management to manage the work load of stalwart in order to be in full throttle in the global tournament. Umer Gul one of the most reliable spearheads powers started to wane since he has looked off-color and has bowled poorly to add worries for the coach and selectors. The fast bowler might be out of favor any time soon in near future. The third big worry for the Pakistan is...

...With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility In old times the dilemma was to be or not to be, in today’s time it’s to be seen or not to be seen. In today’s fast moving routines, recognition has become one of the imperative forms of appraisals used by many organizations and acknowledged by the recipients. This trend not only exists in organizations but has been improvised and has formulated itself into being an element of our everyday lives. This has been made easier with the advent of social magazines, for example, GoodTimes (GT), which recognizes and brings to heed the ongoing events taking place in the country. Even at a time when everyone is caught up in their own routines, keeping a tab on the whereabouts of our surrounding remains on top of the priority list. Humans are very contentious by nature, as stated by the Highest power, and so they are deemed to feed themselves on these fables. What makes this process simpler is the presence of an outlook in the face of such a social magazines; GT. “We get calls from all over the country asking whether their event is being covered by the magazine”, spelled out Elaine, the assistant editor of the magazine. “Everyone wants to be on the first page. They want to be seen by all”, she continued. Amidst growing tension in the economy regarding underground tapping of resources and political instability, every company or organization has been facing its set of problems. These problems have ranged from increasing employee turnover to...

...I have no personal issue with any of the players, or any agenda to push forward. Every assessment made is merely my viewpoint on the squad selected. After the relatively early exit from the World Cup, it was expected that the selectors will push forward with youth, and rightly so. To me its simple – if you’re not going to play in the 2019 World Cup, you shouldn’t be in the squad. And that’s the issue I have with the selection of Saeed Ajmal. I am a huge Ajmal fan; he is a great ambassador for Pakistan cricket and has performed remarkably for us, however I am not in favour of his inclusion at this point. Will Ajmal be representing Pakistan in the 2019 World Cup at 41 years of age? I highly doubt it. I’d rather we focus on backing youth for the premier event. As well as this, who’s to say Ajmal will be as effective as he once was? He hasn’t played competitive cricket in over seven months. I wish him well as he is a great guy, but I don’t agree with his selection. Another thing that is baffling is the exclusion of Ahmed Shehzad from the test and ODI squad. Here we have a youngster who has shown an appetite for big runs, yet the way he is treated is despicable. Shehzad was Pakistans leading run scorer in ODI cricket in 2014, the second highest scorer for Pakistan in the World Cup. He has played eight test matches, scored three hundreds with two fifties at an average close to 48. His last innings was a mammoth 176 against New Zealand, which was ended with a blow to his head...

...The Kashmir Issue: Some options towards solution By Dr. Misbah Islam As we all know the Kashmir issue has been has been a perennial problem ever since the birth of Pakistan. Kashmir is one of the two most intractable problems that have stymied the world for so long resulting in horrendous loss of life and negative impact on the development of the belligerants. Nature of the Problem: The origins of the Kashmir issue lie in the illegal instrument of accession to India signed on October 26, 1947 by Raja Hari Singh that violated the rights and hopes of 77% Muslim population of Kashmiris to join Pakistan. It has resulted in or associated with at least four major wars: 1948, 1965, 1971 and 1999. Besides loss of liberty for 10 million people it has entailed loss of lives (more than 102,000), in the form of executions, bombardment and disappearances, horrendous tortures, injuries, crimes against women, destruction of property, businesses and the list goes on [Ref 1]. No value can ever be assigned to the psychological losses. So far India has refused visits by Amnesty International to investigate and report impartially. We have also to take into account other costs. The purpose of this exercise is to highlight the seriousness of the issue and to prove Pakistan’s commitment to the cause. The Kashmir issue has involved direct expenditure in terms of resources: military, diplomatic, journalistic and so on. Resources, that could have been better spent for mitigating and solving...

Vermont native Henry Wells and New Yorker William G. Fargo watched the California boom economy with keen interest. Before either Wells or Fargo could pursue opportunities offered in the West, however, they had business to attend to in the East. Wells, founder of Wells and Company, and Fargo, a partner in Livingston, Fargo and Company, were major figures in the young and fiercely competitive express industry. In 1849 a new rival, John Butterfield, founder of Butterfield, Wasson & Company, entered the express business. Butterfield, Wells, and Fargo soon realized that their competition was destructive and wasteful, and in 1850 they decided to join forces to form the American Express Company. Soon after the new company was formed, Wells, the...
