“Do you really believe… that everything historians tell us about men or women- is actually true? You ought to consider the fact that these historians have been written by men, who never tell the truth except by accident.” As Moderata Fonte says, you cannot always go by what was written down on paper because it is not what actually happened. These words spoken by Fonte relate with the story The Necklace, by Guy de Maupassant. Not only do they both describe different thoughts between men and women, but they both display misogyny. In this short story, Monsieus Loisel is immensely misogynistic against his wife. He was always taking advantage of her, and she did not even notice. For instance, when Monsieus came abode and gave his wife the invitation to the ball she had no clue that was to make himself look better at work. He tricked her into going, “Why, darling, I thought you'd be pleased, you never go out”. These words that Monsieus spoke mislead Mathilde into going just so he could look better for himself. This is showing Mr. Loisel was a misogynist because, he did not actually want to take his wife to the ball, he just wanted to use her for his advantages to rank himself higher at work, and impress his co-workers because of his beautiful wife. In this case this is just like Monsieus torwards Mathilde. When Mathilde loses her necklace, it crosses her mind that she has no clue how much money her and Monsieus have saved up because he refuses to tell her. This makes Mathilde panic and question what to do. On Monsius’ part that made himself look incredibly bad. Monsieus then told Mathilde “You must write to your friend” and explain what happened instead of him taking care of the problem and releasing part of the stress away from his wife. Monsieus did what're wanted and told his wife what he wanted to benefit himself and himself only. So, all in all Monsieus really only cared about himself and had his wife there just so he could use
