1. My definition of leadership is, leader must have credibility; know what you are talking about, and be able to demonstrate that ability. A good leader will get out and work in the trenches with his/her people, and lastly a leader is fair and constant when dealing with supervisors, subordinates, and their peers. Below are two leadership experiences I had in my career that have helped me shape my leadership philosophy
a. I worked for an MKC early in my career as a non-rate, the expectation and demeanor he displayed are what set me to form how I would evidently formulate what I thought a good leader was. He would often explain to us junior member the reasoning behind the jobs or the tasking we had been given if we made mistakes he would not reprimand us in the shop he would discuss privately in the chiefs mess what was done incorrectly and how to fix deficiency.

The worst supervisor I worked for was a CWO who was very indecisive in his tasking. He would often give project tasking and leave it open-ended, often leaving me with the feeling of trying to read his mind. He would also ask “What do you think”, when we would task out projects then he would be disappointed if we didn’t fixe it to his vision. This failure to give their expectations led to a lot of animosity because we never knew what he was looking for, and led to a lot of redoing jobs that didn’t meet the requirements that were envisioned.
2. Leadership Behavior Improvements - The Leadership Practices Inventory Individual Feedback Report ref (b) helped me identify 2 leadership areas where I need improvement. I am going to focus on the following. Challenge the process and Enable others to act. I chose the these two because these were the ones where my prior leaders had marked me lower than I marked myself, because they marked me lower, I feel they are telling me this is where I need to focus the most of my attention for self
