...My Rhetorical Analysis of Malcolm Gladwell's book was accredited to brilliance of the piece and my personal intuition. I also credit the paper to my sources, numerous strategies, and an excellent reflection from my peers and instructor. I conducted my research by looking into an interview in where the author explained the reason for his writing. I also looked for sources on websites that mainly publish interviews with authors speaking on their book. I first looked at the sources that had tangible meaning and this helped me sift through which one was legitimate and which one I should skip. I used MLA 8 to map out how my paper would go. I was able to set up a thesis with my instructor and that helped me guide my writing. However this was credited...

...I have provided a list for you if you need help. You must get the topic approved by me! Second: Once you have your topic try to narrow it down. You don’t want to have such a broad topic that you are swimming with information. To help you with this you must have a clear and concise thesis that either shows the importance of your topic or takes a stand on your topic. For example if my topic was the cause of the war my thesis would be: The essential cause of the Vietnam War was the instability of government relations between the North and South Vietnamese. Third: You are to write a 5-7 page research paper focused around your thesis statement and providing evidence to back up your thesis statement. You are to use MLA format and follow the guidelines for formatting your paper. Attached is a rubric that will assess your paper. You are to ATTACH the rubric to your final paper for evaluation Fourth: You will teach the class what you have learned about your topic. Your presentation will be evaluated according to a separate rubric that you will receive before you begin planning your lesson. You have an obligation to your classmates to be attentive. Everyone will be responsible for evaluating each presentation and offering constructive feedback to presenters. Along the way you will have check points when things are due. However, I am not going to be hovering over your shoulders. This is your responsibility. Most of the work is to be done outside of class. We will have three class...

...kept a journal or a diary. Writing things down never made me feel better so my first real experience in any type of writing was in school. Before then I had not given writing much thought. I read a lot of books, magazines and papers; how hard could it be? It wasn’t long before I had a real eye opening experience trying to write my first real formal paper. Writing has never been easy for me so when I started writing formal papers in college it was one of the more difficult assignments for me. In the first part of this essay, I will review my first experience in writing a formal college paper, how the Professor encouraged me to actually finish the paper, then in the second part of my paper I will describe my experiences with research and MLA formatting style. I will never forget my first college English Composition class. When I walked into the class it looked like any other classroom. People were sitting in what I was sure was their comfort spots in the classroom, some in front, some in back. I, of course, chose a middle seat. I pulled out the books and papers I needed for the class and sat quietly. When the Professor started the class we all signed in and of course, we had to write an introduction of ourselves to him. That seemed easy enough. I wrote it out and handed it in and was passed back a syllabus. The final draft of our first paper wasn’t even due for four weeks. At that time I never imagined I would need that full four weeks for one paper. My first paper was to be on...

Fresh Meat (from the “Cabrini Green Project”) By Darrius Barron Being the new kid on the block wasn’t always a good thing. The first day of high school, bashfulness erupted in every freshman’s body. The smell of fresh meat lurked around in the air, as the sophomores sensed it. There was quiet in every classroom. Very few people were talking to their friends from eighth grade. Every forty-five minutes in class felt like a decade in the lake of fire. I felt the dirty, disrespectful looks on my back. I felt the heat from the competition in the school. This year for high school, I tried...

...Reflection Paper EVAN 201 – B02 Preparation for Personal Evangelism Instructor – Dr. Claudia Dempsey February 1, 2015 Part 1 Many different ideas come to mind when thinking about the Work of the Cross. The Bible teaches Jesus died on the cross for man’s sins and to grant everlasting life to God’s followers with God in heaven. The sins of man are washed away with the blood of Christ and we receive God’s salvation and sanctification. When looking at the Work of the Cross, a Christian needs to look no further than John 3:16 (NRSV), which states, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” But this would be too simple of an answer for God’s intention for Christ on the cross and how Christ and the cross play a role in the salvation and sanctification of man. The next two verses, John 3:17-18, help explain it further, stating, “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. / Those who believe in him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” Christ dying on the cross was the Work of the Cross, but man must do some work themselves to gain the salvation and sanctification God has offered. Man must accept Christ as the Son of God and recognize Christ as the Messiah mentioned in earlier scripture. Without doing this...

Even having a plethora of topics did not ease the struggle of producing an essay. Similar to what Lamott described, writing even one sentence, feels like a North Korean torture tactic. Sadly, this is just the writing portion, this does not even begin to describe the anxiety felt over grammar, proper sentence structure, and correct MLA/APA...

...film review, establish an argument, and then find 14 other sources to support my claim. Upon locating 15 total credible sources, I was then instructed to create an annotated bibliography. After flipping through multiple reviews, I finally decided upon one that reviews Die Hard. Determining the argument was the first step. After reading and rereading the article a number of times, I decided to focus on how the violence in movies does not affect the audience’s perception of the old school hero. The next step included using the university database in order to locate reliable and credible resources. With this exercise, I learned how to input search queries to give me the most relatable media. After locating a source, I then needed to use MLA formatting to cite the source. Then, I had to provide a summary of the source, why it’s important to my argument, and how I plan to use the source. Below is an example of a citation followed by the commentary: Duca, Lauren. “Why We Need To Stop Blaming Movies For Misogyny And Violence”. The Huffington Post. May 2014: n.p. Web. The article discusses how the general American population places the direct blame on movies when the actual culprits are the children themselves. Washington Post film critic Ann Hornaday has a pretty good reputation when it comes to analyzing films. However, in the case of The Neighbors, Hornaday implied that Seth Rogan’s film caused the murders of college students near University of California-Santa Barbara. Lauren...
