Contracts Exam Question (with sample answers) Question 1 H. Bigbus (B hereafter) operates a construction supply business in Harrisburg. B specializes in supplying difficult-to-locate plumbing and light fixtures for contractors who do remodeling work. B sent the following letter to five contractors in the Harrisburg region: OFFER TO THE TRADE We have cornered the market for a source of brass "Orient Express" wall hanging light fixtures. We know (and we're sure that you do, too) that these fixtures are in such great demand that they are nearly impossible to obtain. If you are willing to take all your needs from us, we'll guarantee delivery at $20.00 each. I. M. Sap (S hereafter), a contractor who remodeled about twenty houses per year, received one of B's letters. S was interested in the lamps, so when he was near B's place of business, he stopped in and asked B the quantity of lamps available. B replied that he had a large quantity of lamps in his warehouse. On the following day, B sent a messenger to S’s place of business with a letter that provided as follows: Dear S: I can give you ten percent off the quoted price if you will agree right away to my proposal by picking up lamps. What do you say? Do we have a deal? S did not respond. However, on the following day, S was present at the building site of X, another contractor, when a large load of the "Orient Express" brass lamps that X had ordered from B arrived. There at X's job site S saw the lamps for the first time, and realized that they were indeed a bargain. X, however, detested the lamps when he saw them. X immediately called B and told him that he did not want the lamps (You may assume as a fact that X had the power to refuse goods from B if X did not care for them), and X also told B to send a truck to pick up the refused lamps. S was present while X made this call to B. After X hung up, S stated that he was

An Introduction to Pmbok Guide 5th Edition

...in the Project Management Institute’s (PMI), A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, (PMBOK® Guide) Fifth Edition is the “Project Management Process Groups and Knowledge Areas Mapping” matrix, found in Table 3-1 on page 61. This table maps the 47 processes of project management to their corresponding Knowledge Area, as well as to their corresponding Process Group. At first glance, the table seems quite complicated, so let’s break it down and uncover why a solid understanding of the relationships between processes, Process Groups, and Knowledge Areas is important to anyone preparing to take the Project Management Professional (PMP) ® exam. It’s so important, in fact, that we suggest you memorize this matrix and the relationships it calls out. Memorizing the table will prove to be a valuable asset to you during your PMP Exam. What is a “Process” – 47 processes of project management? Let’s start with the building blocks of the matrix - what is a process? At its most basic level, a process is simply a way of transforming an input into an output using proven tools and techniques. The PMBOK® Guide defines a process as “a set of interrelated actions and activities performed to achieve a specified set of products, results, or services.” Good processes-based on sound principles and proven practices-are extremely important for a project’s success. Processes, like a roadmap, keep the project going in the right direction; they can also help minimize confusion and uncertainty...

...Toy Story - analysis of the Jot case study Adrian Sims of BPP Professional Education provides some initial analysis of the pre-seen material for the TOPCIMA Part B – Case Study exams on February 28th and May 24th 2012. I’m writing this article in late December 2011 to help candidates prepare for the March and May 2012 T4 (TOPCIMA) exams based on the pre-seen material for Jot- toy case. Some previous T4 cases have lacked fun, but toys are fun. I’m sorry, but I decided to combine this article with quotes from the three Toy Story movies (Disney/Pixar). The Toy Story quotes are in italics, a bit contrived, and probably of no use for the exam. They made me smile and gave me (and you) an excuse to watch the Toy Story movies again. But my newspaper today rather kills the joyful mood. It has the headline ‘Sales boom may not save High Street big names: analysts predict failures within days’. It reports that the December sales boom has been insufficient and has left many stores with unsold stocks and unable to pay their outgoings. This has afflicted markets as diverse as camping equipment and lingerie. This brings us to the heart of the Jot pre-seen material. Jot makes toys and is part of an industry for which November and December sales are critical. It depends on retailers to sell its products, but retail in Europe is facing terrible times as a consequence of the recession caused by the sharp reductions in government spending and collapse of bank lending. It has a perilous cash flow...
