Susan: I typically wear black slacks (many different cuts and fabrics) or mom jeans with a turtleneck (usually white) or a shell and a jacket (usually with a mandarin collar). Lisa: I was recently at a clergy meeting where one of the other clergywomen caused quite a sensation. She's recently divorced, 50 years old and quite attractive (very nice figure). She attended this meeting in a very low cut pair of jeans, a midriff shirt and platform heels. (mind you, this is a gathering of clergy and the rest of us were in our "Sunday" clothes.) What caused all the twittering was her tat -- what is called by my youth group a "tramp stamp" and the fact that her thong "handles" were hanging out. I really don't think we got much business done that day. Over the past hundred years the value of modesty has gone down in societies across world, but you can especially see that the value of modesty has gone down in America. Part of the loss of modesty in society has to do with the dating part of life. As societies values in dating goes down the less modest people are forced to be. When one person starts wearing something that is considered less modest, other people see the attention that one person gets and feel forced to go along with it. The owners talked directly to each employee, but when the operations manager took over his source of communication became through written word and email. ...Freedom of Speech While I feel that the baggy pants issue is disturbing and distracting, I don’t feel a law should be put into place. When my children were in High School, each year the parents had to sign a policy regarding proper dress and what that entailed. If your child was felt to be in violation, it was understood they were sent home to put on more appropriate attire. This makes the student and the parents accountable for the dress code policy.
