...Lynnette k. Bryant Trident University International BUS 499 – BSBA Integrative Project Session Long Project Module 4 Dr. Darlene Pomponio 9 January 2012 As one of the four perspectives of the Balanced Scorecard, the Learning & Growth perspective focuses on how the organization must learn and innovate in order to achieve the set goals. It is the root of the balanced scorecard and requires nutrients to grow. It develops intellectual capital and empowers employees as part of the relationship to the vision and strategy portion of the BSC. Learning & growth perspective can be described as inputs and internal constituents. When Wal-Mart's growth rate accelerated significantly in the late 1990's, investors who owned the stock and who sold promptly when the acceleration stopped in 2000 - made as much as a 400% return in about four years. When a more sustainable growth rate returned during the 2001 - 2005 period, only modest returns were available from the stock - and only for those investors lucky enough to buy at yearly lows. Wal-Mart shares are trading well below their 2004 high and have dropped 30% in total since Scott was named CEO in 2000, even as the Morgan Stanley retail index has risen 180%. Even money managers who own Wal-Mart's shares tend to see the retailer as a beaten-down value play, not a growth company. The underlying economics of expansion have turned against Wal-Mart, even as it relies increasingly on store-building...

...Egoism: This theory looks at an action in light of these consequences for only one entity, the person deciding whether an action is ethical. In other words, if an action is good for me, then it is ethical. The plus of that theory is that it is easy to apply--you need only look at a proposed action, figure out the consequences for you and if they are good then the action is ethical. The minus of the theory is that it obviously leads to many conclusions that most would agree are not ethical. Suppose you have a baby food plant and have some rotten fruit If it would be economically feasible to use that fruit (amount in profits vs. amount in lawsuits and lost public relations) then it would be absolutely ethical to use that fruit. Apply that example to out of date medications in the third world and you can see that it might be hard to make a straight-faced argument that this theory promotes what most think of as ethical outcomes. Think VERY carefully before you use this theory to justify any conclusion in today's business world. Libertarianism: This theory is a little more nuanced. You are still looking at only one aspect of the situation and that is how it upholds or promotes liberty, but you need to look at how the action upholds or promotes liberty for all those who might have rights. This theory looks at whether an action violates anyone's' liberty and liberty is defined as the right to property you have legally acquired and the right to be free from the unwanted or unagreed-to...

...There are many major components of the motherboard. The basic one to mention is the mounting holes. Without them, your motherboard would be exposed to elements that could ruin it. Two more basic components that are very necessary are the 4-pix ATX12 power connector, which connects the motherboard to the outside power source, and the CMOS battery, which is a battery powered semiconductor chip. The port cluster is where I/O devices will connect to the CPU. There are multiple PCI slots, which send information serially over signal paths that collectively transmit and receive data simultaneously. For memory, there is the Dual-channel DDR2 memory slots. The North Bridge is connected directly to the CPU. The South Bridge chip is responsible for handling the I/O functions. The SATA host adapter will let you connect an external hard drive for backup. One component that you may not see any more is the floppy drive controller. It is used to reading and writing to a computer’s floppy disk drive. By upgrading the motherboard alone will give some performance improvement to a computer system. Your I/O systems may not improve. It will depend on the adapters cards they are attached to. There is a need for multiple buses found on a motherboard due to each device being able to connect to its own bus. This will increase productivity. Data will not have to be transferred on a single bus and delay transmission. It is not applicable to replace multiple buses with a single bus due to creating a...

...The media, and Hollywood in particular, is one avenue in which the general public becomes familiar with the role of nurses. How does the media positively or negatively influence the public's image of nursing? What other avenues may better educate the general public on the role and scope of nursing as well as the changing health care system? Hollywood definitely portrays nursing in an unrealistic fashion. For the most part there are two different types of TV show’s/movies out there right now and they both shed a different light on nurse’s. Even though I am in love with it, shows such as Grey’s Anatomy in my opinion do not show what it’s like to actually be a nurse. For the most part, we are not running around hooking up with every doctor we see, and one thing that drives me crazy is that they show the doctor’s doing jobs that the nurses do! I have NEVER seen a doctor, not even a resident start a peripheral IV or draw blood. Yet on Grey’s they are starting IVs, drawing blood, pushing meds and spending way more time than I have ever seen talking to patients. I know the show is focused on the doctors, but if I only knew about nursing through watching TV, I would think the doctors were the heroes who comfort patients 24/7, and that all nurses did were stare at each other all day. Sometimes I think even the news can affect how the public views nursing. Within the last few months, a med tech was responsible for a huge Hep C outbreak at my hospital. I know this negatively...

...Module 3 Discussion An income statement is a summary of revenues and expenses and gains and losses, ending with net income for a specific period of time. Indicate the two traditional formats for presenting the income statement. Which of these formats is preferable for analysis? Why? When you respond to this discussion question, I expect to see a brief discussion on the importance of the income statement. After which, you need to respond to the other requirements completely. The income statement of any company is often considered the most important reporting tool. The income statement shows revenues, expenses, gains, and losses. It gives the users of financial information a snap shot view, at any specific point in time, the profitability of the company. If the net amount of revenues and gains minus expenses and losses is positive, the bottom line of the profit and loss statement is labeled as net income. If the net amount (or bottom line) is negative, there is a net loss. According to Averkamp in an article in Accounting Coach, he states that, “People pay attention to the profitability of a company for many reasons. For example, if a company was not able to operate profitably—the bottom line of the income statement indicates a net loss—a banker/lender/creditor may be hesitant to extend additional credit to the company. On the other hand, a company that has operated profitably—the bottom line of the income statement indicates a net income—demonstrated its ability to...
