Many people go for hair removal on different parts of their bodies. But there are different ways to remove hair such as waxing, treading, or laser hair removal. All the ways have both negative and positive outcomes. Waxing is one type of hair removal. It was developed by the Egyptians for smooth and hairless skin. They used sticky emulsions made of oils and honey. This is in modern day times called “sugaring” ("Get Waxing"). This procedure is done by putting wax onto the hairy area and taking a piece of cloth and putting it on top of the wax. The profession then presses down getting all the wax on the cloth and rips it off the skin pulling all the hair out with it. Waxing is positive in many ways. For example, it is done quickly and easily. The wax can be spread out all over and remove large areas of hair. Also, this can either be done at home or at the nearest salon. After waxing for a long period of time it can actually make the hair stop growing. Another positive thing is the hair doesn’t grow in until after two to three weeks depending on how fast the person’s hair grows (Torres). There are alson negative effects on waxing. It can cause redness and irritation of the skin, red bumps, and ingrown hairs. It can also cause skin infections (Bhatia). Also, it causes the skin to lose elasticity. This occurs when the skin is ripped when the wax is applied. The loss of elasticity of the skin can lead to a risk of wrinkles over time. ("hairremoval") Another way people get their hair removed is threading. Another name for threading is called khite. The procedure is done with strings and it pulls the hair out from the skin. Threading was originated in the Middle East and South Asia. People use threading mostly for their eyebrows, but can also be used for hair removal on other parts of the body like the upper lip, sideburns, cheeks, etcetera (siddons). Some pros about threading are that it is fairly neat, fast, and it doesn’t rip off a whole first layer of skin like waxing does. Also, the skin does not get irritated or red. This procedure is really good at getting small hair follicles leaving the skin soft, smooth and hairless. Some negatives about threading are that ot can cause infections in the hair follicles (“Threading.. Pros and Cons”). Another type of hair removal is laser hair removal. This process is done by aiming a beam of light to the hair. The light is so strong that it absorbs the pigment in the hair making the hair not grow back. This type of hair removal replaces waxing and threading. The hair never grows back and it also gives minimal discomfort. Some cons about laser hair removal is that it takes multiple sessions to get this treatment done. Also, because blonde or gray hairs have lack of pigment in the hair, this procedure is less responsive to the hair. It also takes a long time to get the actual process itself. It is also extremely expensive to get this treatment done (“laser hair removal”)(“fitness Magazine”). All three types of hair removals have negatives and positives. From how much the cost or the consequences it may have, they all remove hair. Even if it is for a long or a short period of time. Different people prefer different types of procedures.
