What is one of the creepiest places on Earth? For best friends, Will Halloway and Jim
Nightshade, this turns out to be the carnival that just came into town. The carnival is owned by the creepy, Mr. Dark and Mr. Cooger. They own a carousel that ages people, forwards and backwards, and they are also trapping people in servitude without their memories. Jim and Will know they have to stop them, with help from Will’s father. In Something Wicked This Way
Comes by Ray Bradbury, Will is reserved and worried about getting involved in dangerous situations, but throughout the book, he helps contribute to the idea that age doesn’t define who a person is.

Will doesn’t feel comfortable doing this, so he’s trying to convince Jim to leave. When Jim looked down from the tree, “...he saw Will as a stranger below with some silly request to give off living and come down to Earth”(Bradbury 22). Will’s not interested in observing the actors, because he doesn’t understand what they are doing or why they are doing it. Will just worries more about things than Jim does. Will likes taking the time to think things through, which leads him to being a little more cautious and reserved; these aren’t necessarily bad traits to have.
During dangerous times they can be extremely useful, like later in the book when the carnival freaks are searching for Jim and Will. All day Jim and Will have been hiding from the…show more content… Being cautious is good in this situation in case something goes wrong. Despite his fears, Will goes into the library and the only person in their is his dad. He knew that he needed to go in, so he didn’t let his worries stop him from doing what needed to be done. In the end Will was able to do what was needed. Will is a cautious and reserved person that is still able to get things done.
Though Will is only thirteenyearsold, the way he acts and thinks doesn’t always represent that. Throughout the whole story the central idea that a person’s age doesn’t determine who they are is prevalent. One key example of this is the carousel that changes a person’s age.
Only their body becomes younger or older; nothing happens to their mental age. Another example of this is Will and his maturity. Will knows much more about the carnival than he is supposed to, and despite his youth he realizes that he needs to be careful and make sure others are safe as well. Many people his age would only worry about making sure that they are okay, but Will isn’t like many people his age. He starts off by telling his dad to avoid the carnival,
