...of the most difficult jobs on the planet. That job is giving birth. Known to be exhausting, demanding, and painful both physically and mentally, it has been no easy task. Yet, they do it admirably time and time again. Given how demanding pregnancy and birth is on the body and mind, it should come as no surprise that medicine has come a long way in making pregnancy easier, quicker, and less painful. Many women have found these methods to be a wonderful way to give birth. Spinal epidurals are used for pain relief, while cesarean sections to get the baby out quick and (generally) painless barring any complications. These have saved many women tremendous amounts of pain, and have saved the lives of many babies and mothers due to complications in natural birth. It should be no wonder, though, that there are those on each side of the argument, whether to give birth naturally or with medical intervention, making an argument as to why their method is the best. Both methods do have their particular advantages and disadvantages. The question remains, who is right? Is anyone right? Can there be a middle ground? There are several questions that arise when asking the question, which is why I will be breaking down both sides of the argument. I will present research on both ends of the subject going over certain advantages and disadvantages that come along with each. These advantages and disadvantages can be felt by both the mother and the child (father too), so we must find a way to draw a line...

...“Abortion is always wrong” Discuss. There are situations that even the actual birth of the baby will cause a serious problem to the mother. If we think about the case of a young teenage girl who get pregnant early, or the situation of a middle school girl who was rape, we would see it's very dangerous to force her to keep the baby. There could be serious repercussions if she does not get the nutrition she needs during her pregnancy or correct pre-natal care. Death rate during birth and chances for a premature or otherwise unhealthy baby is also dramatically higher among young mothers. We have no right to ask her to take a great danger just to give birth to unwanted child. We should respect her decision whether or not she will keep the baby. If the woman doesn't want the baby but she does not have an abortion, and she is forced to give over her body as a life support system to something else, she may resent the child unfairly for the burden it has placed upon her. When the child is being born by a mother who does not want it or at least is not ready to have it, that may lead to child abuse or mistreating, the child can not live in a good environment eventually will become a burden for the society. That's why forcing the woman to give birth to unwanted child not only ruin her life but also create unfortunate future for the child. The right to a legal abortion is one of the few subjects on which nearly everyone has an opinion. Those who think abortion should be readily available...

...information that supports home births being better for the US mortality rate of newborns and their mothers. This film shines light on the tactics used to change home births from a norm in society to a type of outcast or out dated procedure. This film breaks down a specific time line in which, certain medications phased in or out and when child birth went from a personal bonding moment between mother and child to a medical procedure in hospitals. The film displays the fact that the US maternity system has given reign of procedures and policies to the bottom line which is money. Get the Heck Out the Hospital The film stated that the US had the second highest mortality rate among other industrialized cultures. Which raises the question why is the mortality rate so high in the US. I have to honestly say while watching this film I did not receive a definitive answer. Instead poorly supported statistics was used to tie hospital births to the mortality rate in the US. However in the film it is suggested that majority of the deaths that happen in the US are mothers and babies that delivered in a hospital. But what is not provided is real facts and numbers, but it is not taken into consideration that if 99% of births are in hospitals then it would be true that the majority of deaths happen there. The one thing that is not discussed in the film is the amount of deaths during home births. The conversation of Birth being a business in modern-day society stem from birth being overly medical...

...Abortion is an act that kills an unborn human. It is poorly affecting our humanity. Abortion is the method of putting a termination to the life of the fetus by killing it in the womb itself. Considering ethics and beliefs, death is morally wrong. Therefore, the killing of unborn baby is morally wrong as well. Abortions, this immoral practice of killing an unborn baby should be illegal everywhere in world because it is same as the murder of an innocent, gives rise to a psychological pain to a woman, and woman to tolerate several medical complications. What is abortion? Most of us don’t want to think about it. The baby is pulled out of the mother. Abortionist harshly pull out the baby out of mother and then vacuums out the brain of baby. It...

...After a pregnancy is confirmed a woman needs to consider where she wants to give birth. She has a choice between home births, hospital birth or in a midwife led centre. I discovered home births are getting more common in the UK especially if the woman already had children,BBC news says that “planned home births are less risky than planned hospital births particularly for second-time mothers”, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/. With a home birth, the pregnant woman can have as many people with her during the birth, this can be reassuring. The woman won’t have to rush to hospital when in labour this will reduce a lot of stress. If the pregnant woman has any children they will not feel excluded. The midwife who helped the mother through her labour is known to her through antenatal care. Sandy Green acknowledges that “If there are any problems during the labour, the mother and baby will need to be taken to hospital, usually in an ambulance”. I feel this could be very traumatic for the mother and both could become very unwell during transfer from the home to the hospital, this may result in both mother and baby dying. During a home birth, the full range of pain reliefs is not available e.g., “epidural”. This can only be given in hospital, as an anaesthetist must be available. When having a home birth, the mother needs to consider all of the equipment she will need e.g. She will need to provide plastic coverings for the floor and bedding, e.g. Plastic or rubber sheeting (a clean shower curtain...

Does the Catholic Church believe its right? Worldwide there are 46 million abortions a year meaning 115,000 per day. The pregnant woman who is poor seeks abortion because she can not take care of herself and the children she has. ...the end. Getting pregnant and giving birth is a risk many women have taken for centuries because in the end it creates the most beautiful thing imaginable, life. There have been many occasions where women in my family have had life threatening risks while pregnant but luckily they had good doctors to keep things under control and they were able to give birth to their little miracles. When falling pregnant, although short, there is always a list of health risks that can affect not only the mother but the baby as well. For example, when my sister, Ina fell pregnant with her daughter, she went in to have a sonogram and the doctors told her that her daughter’s heart was too large and her daughter would die immediately after giving birth. Multiple doctors informed my sister not to buy anything for her daughter or have a baby shower because she would most likely be planning a funeral instead. Instead of taking the doctor’s advice, Ina went on with her pregnancy as though everything was normal; she kept a positive attitude and refused to believe that was the end of it. On February, 24, 2007 I was there to witness her give birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl weighing 6lbs, 2oz. Today my niece she is 6 years old and healthy and happy as can be. Usually when doctors make a suggestion on what to do while pregnant, people will do as they suggest. Although it isn’t very likely, there are times doctors can be wrong in what advice they decide to give and it is up to the patient to decide...

...most passionately debated subjects of controversy in the United State. Since the early decades of the 20th century, abortion was used as a measure of limiting families to a manageable size. In the past, due to the lack of knowledge, many families usually gave birth to a lot of children that they could not afford to raise, which is why abortion was abused in early times as an extreme measure of birth control to avoid further poverty to families. Today, many abortions are given to women under the age of 22. There are not many teenage girls who have sex use protection the first time. Impulsive, ignorant, and irresponsible behavior often lead to unwanted pregnancy. Forcing a woman to raise an unwanted child is the ultimate form of child abuse, for the child will receive less of the loving maternal relationship she or he deserves. Moreover, given birth at the early age may cause a great danger on the young mother as well as the baby, etc. By these reasons, we should consider the right of women to decide whether she should keep the baby or not. Nowadays, many teenage girls have sex in their early age and get pregnant by the lack of knowledge in sexual relationship. If they can not have abortion, they are forced to give birth to the child and raise it while they are still in school. It's not fair for them because they still have the whole school life and their future ahead. That will interrupt their education and even their dream. These teenage girls will have to live the rest of...

...Closed Adoptions When one decides to adopt, they would have to decide if they want their adoption to be confidential, semi-open, or open. There are many benefits to all three types of adoptions but which one is more beneficial is the question. First we need a better understanding of the three types of adoptions. Closed adoption is when neither the birth parents nor the adoptive parents know each other. Generally open adoption is when the birth parents and adoptive parents know identifiable information about each other as well as a contract shared between both parties. Semi-open adoptions include unidentifiable information and contact mediated by the agency. By the end of this research one will have formed their own opinion which...

...on that is a pro-life group claiming that a life starts at the point of conceiving, therefore abortion is literally murder. Then there is the other group fighting for the right of choice in this matter known as pro-choice group. They both are at opposite poles with their arguments. People supporting pro-choice work towards creating legal options for abortion. They work to make laws that allow people to choose under given circumstances whether they want to go for abortion or not. They are to some extant justified in supporting this perspective. In some cases, the pregnancy is too complicated or dire for the mother to give birth that it becomes absolutely necessary to go for such options. Sometimes there are issues like financial problems in the family. The parents find it challenging to afford the expenses of an additional family member. It also happens that becoming a mother is too much of a responsibility; perhaps the woman carrying the child is not apt or yet ready for it. In certain cases, the pregnancy is a result of rape. The fetus in this case becomes a psychological trauma for the...

...Abortion Introduction The abortion debate deals with the rights and wrongs of deliberately ending a pregnancy before normal childbirth, killing the foetus in the process. Abortion is a very painful topic for women and men who find themselves facing the moral dilemma of whether or not to terminate a pregnancy. It's one of the most polarising moral issues - most people are on one side or the other, very few are undecided. The primary questions The moral debate about abortion deals with two separate questions: 1. Is abortion morally wrong? 2. Should abortion be legal or illegal? Women's rights arguments in favour of abortion Here are some of the women's rights arguments in favour of abortion: • women have a moral right to decide what to do with their bodies • the right to abortion is vital for gender equality • the right to abortion is vital for individual women to achieve their full potential • banning abortion puts women at risk by forcing them to use illegal abortionists • the right to abortion should be part of a portfolio ofpregnancy rights that enables women to make a truly free choice whether to end a pregnancy This argument reminds us that even in the abortion debate, we should regard the woman as a person and not just as a container for the foetus. We should therefore give great consideration to her rights and needs as well as those of the unborn. Women's rights arguments against abortion Not all who support women's...

...For my final paper I have decided to do a on the ethical and controversial issue of abortion. In this report I will cover both sides of the abortion issue. I will summarize the stands of both Pro-Life advocates and Pro-Choice, by presenting arguments from organizations, authors, and journal articles from each side. As well as give a brief history on abortion and a look at the laws that govern this issue not only here at home but around the world. In conclusion of my report I will give my views on the issue and on which side of the fence my beliefs put me on. So lets begin. Up until the early 1960s abortion was illegal. Almost forty years after the Equal Rights Amendment was first introduced to Congress. However, abortion was not always a crime. During the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, abortion of early pregnancy was legal under common law. Still abortion was illegal during a time when women had little to no rights over what they said, or desired and certainly no control over their right to give birth or not. Even still generations of women persisted in the need to control the amount of children they would have. In a time where birth control was very ineffective or not at all the likely hood of an unwanted pregnancy was inevitable. During the more than 100 years abortion was illegal in the United States some late-nineteenth-century doctors believed there were two million abortions a year. Many women died as a result of trying to have illegal abortions, but if...

...Name: Hiep Tran Professor: Mrs. Wendehack Course: ENG *075 Date: 11-22-10 Against Abortion “It’s easier to kill a person than to give a birth.” Is this the logic and reason of women who have abortions? Abortion has always been a controversial topic that has been the subject of debate many times by the pro-life and pro-choice groups. The pro-life group is against abortion while the pro-choice group is the group that thinks the mother should have a choice whether or not to abort a child. No matter what people are arguing about this subject, abortion is and will always be immoral. Even just the thought of an abortion is unethical. I do not approve in abortion because it is bloody and cruel, immoral, and risky for the mother unless the mother’s life is in danger. Many people believe that abortion is not bloody and cruel but a simple, cleanest and quickest process. However, they are wrong. How can we define abortion? Abortion is a removal of a baby from the uterus in order to end pregnancy. It sounds like abortion is taking out of a mother’s womb so that the mother will no longer be pregnant. In fact, it doesn’t sound that simple because whatever the surgery is, it is killing an innocent baby. In the first trimester, surgeons use the suction method to suck the baby out from the mother. At this time the baby is still very soft. When the baby is sucked out, it is a full pile of blood came out (http://www.abort73.com/HTML/AbortionPictures/images/abortion-09-02...

...unborn infants, in my opinion, humans are actually hurting themselves. They are not allowing themselves to meet these identities and new personalities. Abortion is simply wrong. Every person on this earth is raised knowing the difference between right and wrong. We all know that murder is wrong, so why is abortion not wrong? People argue that it is not murder if the child is unborn, but abortion is murder. The fetus being destroyed is living, breathing and moving. Why is it that if a baby is killed a month before the birth, it is ok, but if it is killed a month after birth, it is murder? It is morally and strategically foolish, because we lose the middle when we talk about reproductive rights without reference to a larger moral and spiritual dimension, and we are unwilling to use language like transgression and redemption, or right and wrong. (Wolf 54) One of the main reasons abortions are immoral, is how they are so viciously conducted. Everyday innocent and harmless fetuses that very well could soon be laughing, lovable, and beautiful children are being brutally killed. One brutal form of an abortion is to cut the fetus into pieces with a sharp object and then, piece by piece, the cut up fetus is sucked from the uterus with a vacuum. Another form of abortion is bringing the fetus, feet first into the birth canal, then puncturing its skull with a sharp object and sucking out the brain tissue with a vacuum. The body parts such as the head, arms, legs, and torso are given letters...
