Motivation Methods
There are many different types of motivation methods that a manager can implement that will assist in improving not only moral but quality and quantity of work performance from the employees. The motivational techniques should be ones that will improve the quality of work from the employees and at the same time allow the company to thrive. The following paper will discuss some of these types of motivation methods that as a manager, I will employ and how they will benefit the company.
Motivational Method # 1
The first motivational method I would like to employ would be one of employee recognition for contributions to the company. I would like to have an idea box where employees can contribute ideas and every month two will be drawn from the box and voted on by the employees as to which one they would like to work on implementing. Once the vote was in, the person who contributed the idea would receive their name posted on the idea board as recognition for their idea and would receive a gift certificate to a local restaurant as a reward for their idea (Sykes, 2003-2012). They will also be allowed to help motivate the rest of the team by getting the idea started and assisting the manager in implementing the idea. By allowing the staff to come up with ideas that will benefit the company and allowing them to take part in putting the project together, it also makes them feel like more of a valuable asset to the company. Staff members want to feel important to a company and not just there to do a job. The need for employee recognition makes the employee strive to give their best while at work and helps their self-esteem. Unfortunately, motivating people is not an exact science. There is no one way, no worksheet to fill out, or no set formula or calculation. Money may motivate one employee of a company. The job of a manager in a workplace is to get the things that need to be done done through their employees. Managers must motivate employees in order to do this.
