Content theories:
1. Maslow’s need hierarchy (five level need hierarchy):
Maslow proposed that humans are motivated by five essential needs and he suggested a pyramid to demonstrate the hierarchy of needs. The bottom of the pyramid consists of the very basic needs such as food, drink, air and shelter. We can observe countries involved in war like Somalia and Palestine. The victims and refugees suffer from food and water shortage, lost their home and once these needs are met, they will continuously seek shelter and try to get protection from threat. Higher order needs will not be recognized until one is satisfied with the basic needs. For society whose basic needs are fulfilled well, they will move up the need hierarchy to look for social needs such as to mingle with friends, to join the community activities or get married and have their own family. Once this social need is met, people will progress up the hierarchy to look for appreciation and respect before finally settle for self-actualization need. Academic achievement and sports participation are among self-esteem need examples. People who receive recognition from others will feel appreciated and confident in their abilities. One of self-actualization example is the CEO and the top corporate officials of a successful firm like Bill Gates from Microsoft who always help to mentor others and get involved in charity for the needy since they have maximized their full potential in their career and life achievement.

2. Alderfer’s ERG theory (three level hierarchy): Alderfers’s theory conforms to Maslow’s need theory. However, Alderfer’s theory doesn’t believe in levels of needs. A lower level doesn’t have to be satisfied. This theory also introduces frustration regression

I believe this is the theory that best describes this case study because Sheets realized that to be successful in her franchised company she needed the other owners to feel in control of their own success. ...When it comes to the different motivational theories I would have to say that I agree least with the psychoanalytic theory and the humanistic theory. I dislike both of these theories pretty much on the same level just because these two theories make it look like we are simplistic as the two theories are very complex and not very motivational from my stand point. The psychoanalytic theory of motivation is very limiting to ones full potential. Can it be true, that we as humans are only mentally stimulated by two things? Sex and anger? I would like to think that I have more to offer myself and that I can contribute to others. And if I am only being motivated by these two means, I am just saying for myself, that I would not reach a desired level of potential because I am not a highly motivated person while I am upset nor am I a sexually aroused person, so motivation would suffer and so would my performance if I was to rely on either of these factors. When it comes to the humanistic theory of motivation, I would have yo say that when I begin to challenge myself or when I feel I am not adequate enough this does not help my self-esteem in turn does not even relatively motivate me to become a motivated individual.
